re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

Luckily it's of no consequence to me - I wasn't trying to cancel, just noticed the fee and was wondering why HKG/BKK got singled out.

My FASA is also subject to the same $345 cancellation fee to HKG - it came up as a First saver fare. The 'full' F fare for 1 million points came without any refund penalty. I opted for 90K instead :)

re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

yes i saw that - but clicking on the 'service fee' link returns the following:

My bold/underline section - suggests fees payable only for economy bookings (also given that the original booking was completed on line)

This seems to correlate with an international FASA where the agent offered to make the change FOC as it was a First class booking.

Right down the bottom of this page Schedule of Fees for bookings made from Australia | Qantas there is this too...

* For changes to a Business or First Class booking, no fees will be applied for all changes including date and time changes.

The asterix is a redirection from the heading "Fees for making changes to bookings". It seems there may be a fee for making a business class booking, but not for changing it - though a cancellation fee may still apply subject to the fare rules.

The "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

I called up QFF while I was waiting in the terminal yesterday, after being put on hold for a few minutes they said that their systems were having issues on 5 Dec when I made my booking. JASA was quickly processed and points / $ were properly deducted.

tbh I think I may have got a good deal? 360SC, four legs in J for 48k points + $170. Before I phoned, I spoke to one of the people at the assistance counter in CBR, she seemed to think I owed them another $500 and that was the reason my ticket was in limbo...

I was dummy-testing the system today.

SYD-NRT return in J in June (off peak, I think)

743K QFF points for 140 SCs

Yes, I know the distance is different.

But then, shouldn't SCs reflect the distance / QFF points ?

Your example is terrific: 360 SCs for 48K in points + $170

Compared to my dummy test run, it is magnificent in returns.

Sorry for the delay! This is my DSC JASA I mentioned a while ago CBR-SYD-ADL, ADL-MEL-CBR.

I'll only believe I earned 360SC when I see it posted!

The points for a JASA tends to reflect the fare types available for that flight and not necessarily the distance of the flight.

Your example is all inclusive amount which inlcudes all taxes and surcharges. The same flights can be had for 144,000 points plus $5,264.16  and would give you 280SCs.

Other goods deals include ADL-BNE-TSV in J which gives you 120SCs (240 with the double status credits offer) for 24,000 points plus $140.

Yes, that has been my experience with a JASA ex HKG. I made two date changes online and neither were subject to any change fees. However due to a change in my situation, I've had to cancel the booking altogether. I cancelled on the phone with the QF HKG office, who advised me that HKD$250 (around AU$31 at today's exchange) service charge would be imposed, and that this "service charge" is less than that charged by Aus QF. Going by what MEL_Traveller said in post #701 above of AU$395, that would indeed be the case!!

Separately, I don't recall the $30 credit card fee being imposed when I last booked a JASA, but I was charged $30 on a booking I made for my Mum this week. Has this changed, or has it always been the case but I was lucky on the last occasion??

743K points to Tokyo return! What, was the service being provided on Leigh Clifford's private sleigh replete with Grange served in Riedel by AJ himself??!!

If you have ANY CC based pay component at all for ex OZ longhaul, the Fee gets charged.

No fee if all done on points.

Thanks Markis. If I had known, I wouldn't have recently closed one of my accounts which had a Mastercard debit card attached! :(

Never mind, after reviewing my records, it indeed appears that I was lucky on the last occasion when I had booked a JASA flying on a partner airline and was not charged the $30 credit card fee at all.

Which partner airline are you referring to? AFAIK, ASAs are only available for QF/JQ flights...?

re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

It was on CX.

I asked about an ASA on PE flying CX and the automatric response was "Only available on QF flight numbers."

re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

I've booked JASAs next year on LAN AKL-SCL and South African PER-JNB-PER. All are on QF flight numbers.

ASAs do pop up when there is not a QF option:
