re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.
Just found a weird quirk with late in the day indirect JASAs not appearing in the search results (probably due to a large number of possible flight choices).
I was attempting to book BNE->CBR MEL->BNE as JASA and JQ1 SYD-BNE directly with Jetstar. When attempting this for the 15th of December, there were no indirect (MEL->SYD->BNE) JASAs late enough to connect after JQ1.
If I made the entire booking as an JASA (JQ1 as a YASA) then indirect connections did appear later in the day, but I didn't want to book JQ1 as an ASA as I wanted to earn SCs and there is no way to add a Plus pack.
Solution was to book JQ1 direct with Jetstar, then book a JASA BNE-(SYD)>CBR->SYD (14/12) MEL-(SYD)>BNE (15/12) - with the MEL-(SYD)>BNE segment too early to connect to JQ1 - then I changed the time via the Call Centre.
Problem solved, but what a painful way to do it (and all for 10SCs!).
However it does also suggest that there will be times when there is a "legal" JASA that isn't displayed, probably due to a limitation in the website booking engine which can only return a certain number of results and favours direct over indirect flights.
The only way I could see to test for these hidden JASAs is to use a trial multi-city booking from a different origin arriving late enough in the day that the QF booking engine supresses the flights that cannot connect e.g.
Want to fly late MEL-(SYD)-BNE, then try a multi-city booking such as CBR->MEL (arriving 2pm) then MEL-BNE. Suddenly all the late in the day JASAs will appear. Would be great if these were bookable without calling the contact centre. Does anyone know how?
