re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

I just booked a domestic JASA and the points were deducted immediately.

re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

I booked 2 for my wife and myself and 2 for my daughter and son in law recently for february use.

The ones for my wife and myself came out immediately. the ones for my daughter and son in law took a day or 2

Strange but might be something to do with not being the QFF holder ??

re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

The booking process may flag an issue and require manual intervention, often for nothing significant, inducing delays.

re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

This will be a good one for us. DSC's through Sydney from Melbourne in J

re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

I called up QFF while I was waiting in the terminal yesterday, after being put on hold for a few minutes they said that their systems were having issues on 5 Dec when I made my booking. JASA was quickly processed and points / $ were properly deducted.

tbh I think I may have got a good deal? 360SC, four legs in J for 48k points + $170. Before I phoned, I spoke to one of the people at the assistance counter in CBR, she seemed to think I owed them another $500 and that was the reason my ticket was in limbo...

re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

More than a good deal !!!
What legs are you doing ??

re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

apologies, haven't been reading this thread regularly.

quick question. just booked a return MEL-syd asa. should I have booked it as two one ways? any advantage in two one ways if I need to cancel or change the return? the fare was simple double the 16k and double the taxes. if I cancel does that mean the second leg is fully refundable for exactly half?

re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

You saved $7.70 in fees if you paid the +++ by credit card.

As for cancelling a "partially flown" ASA, it really depends upon the fare rules.

For most Domestic OZ business ASA's the following applies: (http://www.qantas.com.au/regions/amadeus/minirules/AUAUBUS/)

Cancellations (including no show)

 • Fare is fully refundable.
 • Qantas & Jetstar Any Seat Award: If this is a Qantas & Jetstar Any Seat Award and the itinerary has been partially flown, then a proportion of the money and points originally used to obtain the award will be refunded to the applicable Member. The proportion refunded will be the remaining ticket value as allocated by Qantas as a proportion of the original ticket value.
 • Any refund or credit is the Australian dollar price.
 • Note: If this fare is booked as part of the Qantas Business Class Sale, Global Business Class Sale, Domestic Business Companion Sale, Two or more Sale, the fare is non-refundable.

(This can vary - always check and keep a copy during the booking process)

I would suggest you best result would be "half the points and taxes" but I have no experience with such.

thanks Serfty. I made some enquiries and it seems this is fully flex and so half points and half tax refunded. Return can be changed provided same discount ASA fare is available (unlikely on day of departure). So can either refund or move.

"moving" these is the easy bit - finding U class on a flight you desire to "move" to can be a little harder.

Note that of you can't do it on line, a service fee may be charged.

no service fee as premium (service fee only for economy). But as they said - if they can't find other availability i can just cancel and get my money back - so that would already be $89 towards another fare of the day.

A service fee may indeed be charged for changes to these business class flights - see the fare rules summary:

yes i saw that - but clicking on the 'service fee' link returns the following:

Fare Guide: Australia Domestic
Fees for Consultant Assisted Bookings
The following fees apply to bookings and (where permitted) changes made through Qantas Telephone Sales, Qantas Travel Centres and Qantas airport locations. These fees do not apply to bookings and changes made online at qantas.com.
The fees for consultant assisted bookings apply in addition to any amounts payable under the applicable fare rules, which are summarised in the Fare Guide below.

Fees for making bookings: For bookings made through Qantas Telephone Sales, Airports and Qantas Travel outlets, a fee of A$35 per person applies. For Qantas & Jetstar Any Seat Award bookings made through Qantas Telephone Sales, a per-person Award Assistance Fee in either money or points will apply.

Fees for making changes to bookings: For changes made to Economy bookings (where permitted under the applicable fare rules) through Qantas Telephone Sales, Airports or Qantas Travel outlets:

• where the original booking was made through Qantas Telephone Sales, a fee of A$10 per person applies;

• where the original booking was not made through Qantas Telephone Sales, a fee of A$40 per person applies.

The above fees do not apply for bookings made or changed online at qantas.com.

The table below is a guide only. Full fare rules can be accessed from the links and can be viewed during the booking process.

My bold/underline section - suggests fees payable only for economy bookings (also given that the original booking was completed on line)

This seems to correlate with an international FASA where the agent offered to make the change FOC as it was a First class booking.

That FASA may have had fare rules that said no charge, however not all do, be it F or J, as always its e fare rules that dictate, not the class of travel, take a look at FASAs ex LHR as an example with some fares offering F travel with no refunds changes etc.

Going slightly OT from the current discussion, but this jogged my memory re something I've been meaning to ask:

I recently booked a FASA SYD-HKG. The fare rules state no cancellation fee except for flights arriving into / origination from Hong Kong or Bangkok, in which case a $350 cancellation fee applies.

Does anyone have any idea why a different rule / fee would apply specifically to Hong Kong and Bangkok?

re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

Possibly because it is a very busy/popular route. That's my guess but probably wrong :)

I can't answer your question other than 'because they can' but I have had multiple J/FASAs HKG/BKK-SYD which don't have that cancellation fee. Seems to be more prevalent with bookings ex-Aus.

Fair enough - it seems the underling "service fee" regimen has changed.

Every fare booked may have different rules - always take a copy (.pdf, .mdi etc.) as when booking another maybe next week they may be different.

re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

I am looking at a JASA SYD-NRT in the future.9-12 months out most JASAs for 2 are~ 500000 points each.Yet good availability of AA milesAAvers for 2 at 45000 miles.
When I look at just 1 JASA there are a few days available at 106,000 points. These are virtually all when no AA milesAAver awards are available.
Very strange.
And taxes on AA $7.50

You may well be right k3nnis, but I think I'll go with "because they can" :) Luckily it's of no consequence to me - I wasn't trying to cancel, just noticed the fee and was wondering why HKG/BKK got singled out.

Thanks for the tip serfty - will do.
