On a recently A330 (J) flight the stewardess asked me "Hello Sir, have you flown Virgin Australian before?" :!:
hmmmm- surely they have some passenger documentation ?

Yeah, Ive overheard them asking if they've flown Virgin Business before a few times. Perhaps you misheard?

We were asked if we'd been on the A330 before and would we like instructions on the seat controls, IFE etc. I think that's more where they were coming from (albeit probably not well phrased).

I flew BNE -> PER with VA on 9th June. Tried to use complimentary upgrade to J and couldn't (J was full) so settled into my Y seat in Row 7. No recognition on boarding or during the flight. Maybe they were too busy with all of the WPs?

But the cabin crew were lethargic and seemed completely disinterested with the flight and everyone on it.

They wouldn't have been busy with Platinum's they don't get any more recognition or service than anyone else on a flight.

I've found that the MEL based crew are more pforessuinal and welcoming in the 332.

Did a SYD - TVL flight on the weekend in J and was also asked if I had flown in business before - wasn't sure what it was all about.

Flew SYD-PER in Y, still greeting with the "Welcome back". Not much else in the way of recognition these days.

Iv given up on any recognition at this stage. Platinum in 2 months and have managed to get my partner to platinum too so as you can imagine i travel allot, never really get anything only the odd time when I'm in j

The higher the cabin the harder it is to give recognition... Say you are flying Y to Singapore. Well there are J blankets, newspapers, j or f champagne, meals from higher cabins, amenity kits etc etc that may be offered.

If you fly y+ then the benefits that can be offered reduce. Again with J and well if you are flying F... There is little 'special' attention that can be given.

Wish I flew in higher cabins but 90% of my travel would be domestic Y (flexi)

Will be flying J PER-SYD tomorrow. See how it goes then.

My wife (also Plat) and I flew SYD to AUH in premium economy on points on Tuesday 10th Sept.
Had very good service at check-in, got chatting to a VA senior rep who was cruising the queues and he said it was the first day that all international check in was being performed by VA employees (previously this was outsourced). Checkin took a little longer and employee a little nervous, she made sure we were well aware of lounge access etc and provided passes and express pass.
On board were both greeted by name and welcomed back.
Both the FA's in premium provided attentive service, bigger wine glasses and lots of top ups. Lots of extra bottles of water throughout. Had a good chat to one of them about their layover in AUH, where they stayed and what they got up to.
Towards end of flight a different FA came up thanking us for our custom and handed over express cards.

Following day we flew EY in economy on points to Athens. It was nice to use business check-in with the porter taking our bags from the cab and escorting us to first class check-in as last business counter took a customer. No problems switching to emergency exit seats on the A330 (EY wanted to charge I think $360 each for e exit when I phoned up EY to select our seats a month ago). The e exit seats made this 5 hour leg much more comfortable. Made good use of the first class lounge for a leisurely breakfast with champers.
All in all a very nice trip to Europe. The EY on points AUH to ATH I thought was a bargain for 16900 points plus about $35 each

I'll report back after my VA flight today, but as I'm going in J I'm sure i'll get the attention, regardless of how shiny my FF card is.

In fact, i've never had a bad crew in J yet but perhaps i've just been lucky.

Youve been lucky...

I'm flying tomorrow in J SYD-MEL-LAX with VA and then VA/DL to JFK return VA/DL to LAX and then LAX-SYD on VA again in J. I'll see how I get treated.

We are doing the same trip in Oct in J from MEL-LAX-JFK on VA/DL so please let us know how you go.

In J I would expect it to be good. Your paying for it. Even no status should be great.

Probably a bit hard to measure how good status recognition is on that basis.

Received a very nice personal welcome, bottle of water and NZ immigration entry card before takeoff on VA 188 BNE - AKL last Thursday.

I know it's a stupid little thing, but if my ticket says Dr grubbidok FAs welcoming me back as Mr grubbidok makes it feel like they're just doing the motions rather than actually making feel as though they are welcoming me back.
