Oneworld Classic Flight Reward Discussion - The Definitive Thread

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

Thats your problem then - you have an Emirates flight in the mix. You can only use OneWorld carriers for the 140K award.

Sorry forgot about the 100k limit each year.

There is your issue right there, can't use Emirates they aren't a part of OneWorld.

Ahhh.........Thank you very much.
Huge over-site on the Emirates leg.

Hi guys, again a relative newbie trying to make sense of the RTW rules.
i am booking RTW J flights for friends(we are going Witt hem but using a combination of qantas and Singapore points so will be on some different flights).
The trip is planned for April/may next year, in the last two weeks we have managed to book syd-lax in J on the days they want (being school Easter school holidays) jumped on and have a classic award booked and plan to call qantas and change to a RTW once flights are loaded for the rest of the flights.
The planned routing will be syd-lax-mco-JFK-cdg-fco-syd.
My question is can I also book the JFK-CDG flight using the normal award booking process when they are available and then wait until the return from Rome to syd is loaded, then call up qantas and get all the flights combined into a RTW?
The JFK-cdg and fco-syd flights are not in peak period, and there is a little flexibility in dates, so not sure if we should just wait until all flights are loaded and then call up and get everything booked in one go.
Hope that makes sense.

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

SWMBO and I have been considering J OneWorld awards for June/July 2014 for quite some time, mainly thanks to my discovery of AFF otherwise we would never have known they existed.

However, SWMBO wants to do the Trans-Siberian (before we have kids) as part of it so we would more than likely skip out a huge chunk of the world in terms of air travel so I have been a little loathed to continue along the OneWorld award route. I understand we can travel up to 35000 miles but the other routes we will take will not maximise the points usage IMO.

On that basis, and following reading another thread on AFF recently regarding JASA/FASA, I now have a new view on things.

To an extent (understanding boss), we are able to plan travel well in advance and after doing a few dummy bookings I have decided it would be much better value to do JASA options at T-353 days so that we get excellent deals at good point and good spend rates. I was amazed at the phenomenal value. And it means rather than going around the world we will do an Australia - Europe return encompassing the Trans-Siberian in one direction then recover at home for a few days before heading off to The Good Old USA. And SWMBO was more than happy as we can 'doubly maximise' our baggage allowances apparently! :(

Calendar reminders are now set for T-353 days for all of our proposed dates of travel, we will have flexibility. Oh, and convincing my current employer they can live without me for 2 months. :)

THANKYOU AFF!

Are there "booking angels" who appear for an hour or two randomly every now and again?

I ask for this reason. Wednesday I managed to book 2 pax SYD-JFK-Sao Paolo-MAD-LHR-HKG-SYD for Feb-Apr next year all business class. Was searching around, etc, couldn't book it online, etc usual story. Then strangely I noticed that for most days in feb next year there was 2 seats available on QF107 to JFK. Jumped on QF telephone straight away and locked it in. But then I go back today and there is the usual SYD-HKG-JFK availablity but nothing on qantas. Seemed very strange!

FWIW had been trying to book something like SYD-SCL-JFK-LHR-HGK-SYD and was basically impossible to get 2 business class on the first leg. Even 353 days out I was having no luck.

I'll look into the points combination thing. Will there be major issues if we can't amalgamate the points into one account?
Reading the eligibility it seems that we won't be eligible till were married (Sept.) and can only transfer 100k every 12 months (we both just under 150k points).

...

Hi guys, long time lurker – first time poster.
I was wondering if you could help me out on a few things.
My partner and I have accumulated 140k points and would love to use them on a RTW trip Mid Dec 2013 to Late Jan/Early Feb 2014.
In the points calculator it shows this as possible for 140k, but when I go to actually book it, the result is a cost of 194k points.
Also another concern I have is are my partner and I going to be able to sit next to each other considering that our accounts aren’t linked in any way?

...

First off I would combine all your points in to the one account so that you just go through the booking process once....
You don't need to transfer points to make this a single joint booking.

Of course, you need to call and that has it's own cost (unless the agent kindly waves the assisted award booking fee.) To do this just tell the agent you both wish to take the points out of separate accounts but have the single booking.

I've recently finished booking two One World 280K J award tickets. We initially booked our SYD-LAX J flights online and then as other flights became available I called up Qantas and added them to the booking, with a 3500 point change fee each time. We each had four lots of 3500 points deducted but it was worth it to get the J seats as soon as they became available. Our flights were with QF, LAN and BA and while QF and BA seats are released 353 days out LAN and AA are released 330 days out so we actually booked a flight from JFK to LHR with BA for 26 February before we booked a flight from LIM to JFK for 20 January so they don't have to be added to the booking in date order. I've been told that you cannot have two separate bookings later combined into a One World RTW award - you can add flights to an initial booking as we did, calling QF each time.

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

On this - and kind of related to my post above, we had CX flights that were 360 days out. Not sure if that was normal for them, but the guy on the phone said that was maybe why I couldn't book it online. But they were showing up as available so they got locked in. Have also now received the eticket so its all official

Re: Oneworld award 280K [Post trip review/comments]

5 stops of 24 hours or greater, and can be open jaws (so arriving and leaving from different places) but the land leg distance between where you stop and resume is included in the 35,000 mile caluclation....

Re: Oneworld award 280K [Post trip review/comments]

Thanks for that. Now I need to save up 840000 QF miles to get all 3 of us on this trip :)

Will take me a while..

Not sure how many points you earn a year, but that is a lot of QFF points... More than a few credit card sign on bonuses to get to that... :)

Might be quicker and cheaper (depending on the complexity of your plans) to buy some USDM, AA or LM miles and book one ways or stack a few rewards... :)

As wonderful and amazing as we all feel these OW awards are... :)

Re: Oneworld award 280K [Post trip review/comments]

You are right. It will take me at least 6 years to get that amount of points maybe more.
The USDM method probably sounds better.

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

Question... I'm looking to book a J One-World Award for travel in a years time. I've got everything I want bookable now however it's too soon for the last leg to SYD to be booked. If I book the last leg (happens to be HKG-SYD) for a departure about a week before I want to travel (which I can do now), can I just change the date in a weeks time when the seats open up? And it will only be 3500 points per person for the change online? Just want to make sure it won't somehow impact the other sectors and if it can actually be done online without upsetting the QF award booking engine.

Hi N860CR

We just got home from a 280k oneworld award

Changed our 1st and 2nd flight 30 hours before we left, 7000 points fee.
You can change up to 24 hours before first flight.
Taxes and fees are recalculated, may be more may be less.

I'm sure the answer to this is an obvious no but thought I'd check anyway. I have 2 140k ONE4's booked at the end of the year. Presume there is no way to 'convert' these to ASA's for points/SC earning? The reason the points requirement is so low being that you can't book these routings as ASA's at classic award point levels?

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

Hi all

Am a newbie so apologies if this has been asked before (but Ihavent had any luck searching previous posts so thought Id put it out there)

Am looking into a 280K one world award in J that includes southamerica but I am having real difficulty finding availablity on LAN.

The online QFF points calculator gives me the option offlying Auckland – Sao Paulo (via Santiago)
But if I search flights Auckland – Sao Paulo I either get anerror message or told there is no availability and to choose another date (but it’sthe same with any date even as a flexible date search). Likewise if I break itdown by sector I can find availability on flights between Auckland and Santiagobut I get the same error if I search between Santiago and Sao Paulo.

I can get flights out of Sau Paulo but only to the US orEurope, none of the other one world hubs they fly to that show up on the oneworld website.

I’ve read elsewhere the BA Avios website is better atshowing LAN availability but I cant sign up to Avois with an Oz or NZ address –instead im encouraged to join the QFF awards programne…..

Tried ringing the qantas customer service number but you canonly be told ‘someone will be with you shortly” so many times before giving up,so thought Id query it here in case someone else had a similar problem &managed to resolve it.

Is there a way to check one world award availability on LAN,or book a one world award online (that includes AKL-SCL-GRU) or do I need to justhang on the phone until someone picks up at qantas & then pay the points surchargefee for not booking online?

Try getting a free community account at www.awardnexus.com It will search for you.

I got a BA account with a UK address but I thought now that their alliance with Qantas had ended that they were taking Australian signups?
