Oneworld Classic Flight Reward Discussion - The Definitive Thread

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

I thought you could pass through the origin country twice with this ticket? Just not the city of origin.

No, as per clause in T&C:

14.3.5 A Classic Award Itinerary must contain no more than one departure from the city or country of first departure on that Itinerary.

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

Thanks for that. One to remember. I was actually able to price up an itinerary that allowed a departure ex SYD to and a transit in MEL half way through that looked ok online but it seems would have failed at the booking stage.

hi all
planning an award OW in business class for 2 people in jan/feb 2015. 5 stopsare nairobi, stockholm, antigua, quito, tokyo.
gc mapper calculates it as 34977miles
can anyone see any hiccups with the following itinerary ??? Or can anyoneprovide an advice

doha-nairobi (qatar) stop

nairobi -doha (qatar) transit
doha-stockholm (qatar) stop

stockholm - heathrow (BA) transit

antigua - st maarten (transit, making our own way)

Take note of this rule.
14.5.3 A one way oneworld Award Itinerary will be charged as a return Itinerary. oneworld Award Itineraries finishing in a port other than the port of origin must include the distance to return directly to the port of origin when calculating the number of Points required to redeem the Flight Award and the maximum distance for the Itinerary.

You may also want to have backup itineraries and dates as the odds that there will be two business class seats on all of the exact flights you want will probably not be that high.

Thanks for reminding me about this. Opens up so many more options, especially in Africa.

My FF-illiterate Father spent some time on the phone with QF earlier this week nutting out a 140k award. He struck an extremely competent agent who was only too happy to help, suggesting alternative routings and airports to minimise taxes. My Father spoke with the guy's supervisor to commend his work.

My Father also got the guy's name and extension at QFF in Melbourne. If you're in need of a decent agent, let me know.

Just make sure you include antigua - st maarten in your gcmap mileage as it does count towards the ticket. Otherwise it looks amazing!

LUcky I asked for your help, I didn't know I would have to add the miles for sydney - perth to get back to my port of origin. (there's a lot of miles between syd and perth, yikes!) That will put me over the 35000.
I'm hoping if I ring up and book the 2 business class seats on the day there are released I'll be giving myself the best chance.

I have added to miles from antigua to st maarten (making our own way) into the above calculations. Thanks for the reminder though.

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

Just wondering what the best value for points with a 140K or 280K ticket has been found, ie ticket that cost 280K with a RETAIL PRICE of $28,000 would be $0.10 per point, what is the best value that you have found?

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

the only thing you can compare with really is the one world explorer fares (xONEx, xGLOBnn).

They also need to be one one world flight numbers

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

I don't have any experience with the One World Explorer fares, where can they be looked at?, I was just assuming it would be a good measure of value to points spent, I have a couple of itineries where the "retail" price of the QF flights only was over $35K for a 280K spend but the two other One World carrier flights would only be less than $750 total.

Thank you, the link is to one world points redemption tables, with which I am familiar, but I was hoping for something that directed me to one world explorer fares, with which I have no experience.

I think they'll be in the T&Cs of Qantas Frequent Flyer on the website. See here under 14.5.

Essentially, you're permitted five stops but up to 16 sectors, to a maximum of 35k miles. You do not have to go around the world. Airport changes within the same city (eg. LHR to LGW; JFK to LGA) do not count against either the five stops or 16 sectors. You must use at least two oneworld airlines other than Qantas.
