Oneworld Classic Flight Reward Discussion - The Definitive Thread

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

I think they'll be in the T&Cs of Qantas Frequent Flyer on the website. See here under 14.5.

Essentially, you're permitted five stops but up to 16 sectors, to a maximum of 35k miles. You do not have to go around the world. Airport changes within the same city (eg. LHR to LGW; JFK to LGA) do not count against either the five stops or 16 sectors. You must use at least two oneworld airlines other than Qantas.

Where does it say anything about 16 sectors?

14.5 Classic Awards - oneworld Award booking conditions

14.5.1 A oneworld Award is a Classic Award Itinerary that includes travel on at least two oneworld Alliance Airlines other than Qantas and does not include any travel on any airline that is not a oneworld Alliance Airline.
14.5.2 Classic Awards using the oneworld Classic Award table must be no more than a distance of 56,315 kilometres (35,000 miles). Longer journeys must be broken into separate Itineraries.
14.5.3 A one way oneworld Award Itinerary will be charged as a return Itinerary. oneworld Award Itineraries finishing in a port other than the port of origin must include the distance to return directly to the port of origin when calculating the number of Points required to redeem the Flight Award and the maximum distance for the Itinerary.
14.5.4 The following Stopover conditions apply:
(a) up to five free Stopovers are permitted;
(b) additional Stopovers are not permitted;
(c) only one Stopover is permitted in any one city in the Itinerary; and
(d) only two Transfers may be taken at any one city in the Itinerary.
14.5.5 Surface Segments are permitted as part of oneworld Award Itineraries, but the distance between the disembarkation point and the next embarkation point will be included in the Award Point zone calculation for that Itinerary.
14.5.6 Where mixed-class travel is booked, the whole Itinerary will be calculated using the Points level for the highest class booked.

...
16 segments is all Qantas will permit on the one sticker.

It is not a rule specific to any particular fare, but it it mentioned elsewhere in the terms and conditions.

13.2.4 An Award Flight Itinerary must contain no more than 16 Segments (including any Surface Segments).

Whoops, thanks for that.

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

Does anyone know how to check award availability on Qatar for purposes of the oneworld award (after October)?

I signed up with Qmiles but have no miles. It refuses to even show availability. Just says not enough points.

You could try calling Qatar and asking. I think that may be the only way now.

Take note of this rule.

You may also want to have backup itineraries and dates as the odds that there will be two business class seats on all of the exact flights you want will probably not be that high.

Hi
Would anyone be able to shed some light on how the award seats are released. For example I'm looking for business class seats from DFW to NRT preferrably on a Saturday, but I've noticed till next July it only shows seats available tues, wed, thurs. It is a daily flight. AA61 direct dfw to nrt.

thanks

It will vary from route to route, but typically you'll probably find less J award release on a fri/sat than mid week (especially seems the case into and out of the US).

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

Apologies in advance if this has already been answered, I've trawled through the thread to try to find the answer but have experienced information overload

I have 2 x J MEL-SIN-LHR classic award tickets booked in, one way, for July 2014 including a stopover in Singapore. QF to SIN and BA to LHR.

Anyway, I just wanted to confirm if it's possible to add further flights to the booking (via phone - incurring a change fee) as they become available, and that once the rules for 280k "Oneworld" award were satisfied the appropriate points cost (560k total for the two of us) would apply? Obviously I'd have to add another Oneworld airline in the mix.

The reason is while I don't have 560k points now, I should do by the end of the year based on current work travel plans.

Very good question, I will be interested in the reply also

Ex Australia, global explorer (MPM) comparable distance base fares are as follows:
Results from ExpertFlyer.com
Code:
Fare Basis Airline Booking Trip Type Fare Cabin Effective Expiration Min/Max Advanced
Class Date Date Stay Purchase Req
LGLOB34 QF L Round-Trip 4499.00 (AUD) E -- / 12M
DGLOB34 QF D Round-Trip 11999.00 (AUD) B -- / 12M
AGLOB34 QF A Round-Trip 17399.00 (AUD) F -- / 12M
Does this include taxes?

Oops sorry, my bad ;)

I was interested at the value of QFF points in the context of Oneworld RTW awards in Economy, so based on these fares it looks like 1 QFF point = $4500 / 140k points = 3.2c
And in Business, 1 QFF point = $12k / 280k points = 4.3c

Interesting...

I would be cautious about valuing points along those lines.

The ~$4500 (base) cost a oneworld Explorer in Economy is only the fare ex-Australia. The very same itinerary, varied only by the country of departure, can change the price significantly. Meanwhile, wherever you are in the world, wherever you start your Qantas 140k award, you're still paying 140k.

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

OK you're right, so to be precise, I would personally value 1 QFF point at 3.2c in the context of a Oneworld RTW in Economy ex-Australia. ;)

Apologies on the stupid question, I engaged my brain and via a thread search rather than manual trawling I found the answer. As I understand it, it will be fine for me to add flights over the phone (subject to change fee) to make it into a OneWorld award.

While I have not done so, there is at least one anecdote (within this thread?) of such occurring successfully.

When making the 280K booking do we need to call up or can we book online? And if we need to call up will they charge a booking assistance fee?
