Oneworld Classic Flight Reward Discussion - The Definitive Thread

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

Using AAdvantage miles, you can redeem for their OneWorld Explorer Award. 150K miles gets you a Zone 7 award of 20,001 - 25,000 flown miles in business class. 190K miles gets you a Zone 8 award of 25,001-35,000 flown miles in business class. 25,000 miles can get you a basic journey around the world (SYD-LAX-JFK-LHR-HKG-SYD is just under 24,000 miles). But a more complex routing will likely require the Zone 8 award.

The link is here.

One day....

Looking at a OW trip next year, SYD-HKG-DXB-VIE-VCE-NYC-YVR-LAX-SYD, question is what is best route from either VIE or VCE to NYC?, and without going via LHR.

Airberlin has a flight (actually, a couple of flights a day) going VIE-JFK via DUS. Might be a goer ?

Ok will look into that, figured nothing direct. Not been to DUS in 3O years.

Hi

Just booked the following for next year in J...Had to call the Premium line though and was offered the MAS flights for the outward bound (originally had Cathay via HK) but these times suited us better and opened up QF 94 on the A380 on the way back, so as first time Plat we are very happy...hope you can read it OK and will follow up with some questions I am sure. Managed to get the seat allocation too that we wanted on the A380 from KL to LHR and LAX to Melbourne

Sorry here we go - ALL Sectors in J apart from the AA Flights

MEL VIA KL TO LHR WITH MAS MH 148 and MH2 Seat 4H and 4K and then 7H and 7K
LHR-MILAN WITH BA BA580 Seats 2A and 2C
MILAN VIA LHR TO WASHINGTON WITH BA575 and BA293 Seats 2A and 2C and then 11J and 11K
WASHINGTON TO NASHVILLE WITH AA (Y) AA 3457 Requested
NASHVILLE VIA CHICAGO TO LAX AA (Y) AA2831/AA2049 Seats 4B and 4C and 9A and 9B
LAX - MEL WITH QANTAS QF94 Seats 12 J and 12 K

Do you think the seating looks OK ?

On my itinerary there is a section for a chauffered car from LA to LAX airport and it looks like LAX - MEL - presume home ? Does anyone have any experience with this ?

I am sure I will have loads more questions especially about the F lounge at Melbourne and other lounges. Do you know if when we arrive at LHR we would have access to an arrivals lounge for a shower ?

Enough questions for now, just happy we are booked ..for those that might be interested taxes came in at $2563.00 for the two of us

What was the total distance?

I think it may already have been mentioned but am I correct that one of these awards can be booked for travel entirely outside of Australia?

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

An AA flight that wasn't available when I booked my ticket is now so I'm going to try to add it as an extra (still compiles with all the fare rules etc).

I can't do it online as it was booked over the phone... So if I call to do it ill be hit with the 3.5K change fee per pax, however my reading online says that the over the phone assistance fee (an extra 6k) doesn't apply for J or F bookings.

Am I reading right?

Has anyone been able to confirm that J or F bookings don't pay the 6k phone assistance fee ? Is it still 3.5k or nil for J or F bookings ?
Thanks

I paid $120 for the two of us for the booking fee instead of using points. The CSR did say though that any changes to the booking incurred a fee and Itinkthat was 3.5 k points pp. if that helps

You pay the fee, even in business or first.

Yep never expected that it would be free. My only query in paying and not being able to do on line because you cannot see the MAS flights But I was grateful that I got the dates and flights I wanted

the 3500 fee ? thanks

Yes, you have to pay a change fee of 3,500 points per person when changing the booking on the phone - even if the flights are in business or first.

I just changed a oneworld award itinerary (and paid the fee) today :)

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

I've finalised my 8-month itinerary for next year.

MEL-DOH-MAD-AGP*-MAD-DOH-KTM*-HKG-PVG-LAX-PHX*-LAX-SYD-CFS*/MEL

Just 2 questions:

1. Does anyone have any idea how to check award availability on Qatar without sufficient Qmiles? Alternatively, when they are likely to be bookable with Qantas?

2. The mileage comes out at 34983. However, there are no direct flights from CFS to MEL. If I change to CFS-SYD-MEL, it comes out at 35002. Assuming the last leg (CFS-MEL) is a surface sector which I won't be taking, is the distance calculated directly from CFS-MEL or the shortest available flights distance?

Thanks
