Re: Ooh Tiger, you did it again and are grounded - fly below LSALT (lowest safe altit

Incidentally an interesting comment from Ben Sandilands was that without an AOC, ie suspended, Tiger should not have been selling fares.

Ill-informed, not interesting, its not illegal to sell tickets without an AOC, pretty much all airlines have done this before getting theirs, often with the AOC being granted in the hours before the first service which would have been cancelled due to poor ticket sales if you could not sell any! The ACCC has issues with them selling tickets without making it clear that there was a chance the ticket could not be used, as in the case of startup airlines there should have been a clause saying "subject to government approval " or similar.

Some posts on No News are staggering, people suggesting this is all some QF conspiracy to force TT out of the competition.

Maybe they have been reading AFF?

I stand by what I said.

Have you considered that this whole affair has been orchestrated by the Gillard govt (maximum noise, school holiday time) for reasons best known to itself, but including protecting Qantas from those awful discounted Tiger fares.

Do I believe in conspiracy theories? You bet!

Can't see why the can't blame DJ for the demise of TT, oh that's right because only QF/JQ will benfit from this.

I don't think Tiger is ready to leave Australia, in this situation it is much easier to get out then trying to work out with CASA, ACC.

Accoording to Tiger airways's website :

Tiger Airways Australia's current CEO, Mr. Crawford Rix, will leave the airline on 31 Jul 2011.

The Board says : CR, this is your fault, out.

Mr. Tony Davis, the Group President and CEO of the airline's parent company, Tiger Airways Holdings Ltd., will be appointed CEO of Tiger Airways Australia.

The Board says : TD, this is kind of your fault, now you can focus on it and fix it, or you will follow CR.

Mr. Davis' former responsibilities will be carried out by Mr. Chin Yau Seng, Executive Director of Tiger Airways Holdings Ltd.

The Board says : YSC, you did a good job at SilkAir and SQ, you are the right person for this job at the moment.

Mr. Davis will continue to serve as a Director of Tiger Airways Holdings Ltd.

The Board says : TD, the future is bright if you can fix this.

Interesting about inconsistent records on safety altitudes. I wonder why this happened?

Tiger pilots failed to see mistake

ATC clear you to actual altitudes on an arrival. That's what you should be dialing into the MCP. The aircraft won't descend through an MCP altitude (there are exceptions, but they should not be relevant).

The FMC database altitudes are supposed to be checked against the charts before using them. By both pilots...each and every time.

So, what flight mode were they in, that the aircraft descended through the MCP altitude...or, why wasn't the ATC clearance entered into the MCP?

The point is that you don't just accept what is in the database. You have to check it for accuracy, and also for common sense. You don't need to accept a speed and height just because it happens to be in the database.

I hope they fly again if only because of the effect on peoples jobs and the economy in general if they don't
but with the CEO resigning and CASA making the federal court application I am forced to admit
that my comments yesterday may well be proven wrong.

Livid about this and CASA

"no longer poses a serious and imminent risk to air safety"
Suddenly 100 odd pilots need retraining and there is nothing about how this has come about, how no one noticed or particularly complained or explained. Is this a case of self regulation gone wrong? The pilots association are suspiciously quiet not explaining the problem.

There is no harm mitigation/minimisation : Tiger grounded - are all those 100 pilots totally incompetent enough to be an 'imminent danger' - why can't some flights get off the ground? Not one senior pilot? Or do we tar all pilots with the same brush because a P plater got sloppy.

Public Purse. Because CASA may not be up to speed with the PAN/TGA debacle, I can see a 300 millionish lawsuit claim anytime from 0.3 to 7 years after they take off again. Once up, they can do a Phoenix and a name change. If anything CASA/ Cwth Of A is increasing its plaintiff potential for wanton destruction of value unless they can prove 'imminent danger' beyond reasonable doubt in a court of law.

I am also not impressed by the emergency responses deals by the other airlines, with pax from the 18th to end-of month still in limbo. Many 'victim of tiger' prices are more than Mid October specials. I expect the Alice and Cairns to be the biggest loosers.

Well if a poll on the Yahoo7 website is any indication Tiger may not have any passengers even if the suspension was lifted,
the question was "Would you feel safe flying with Tiger Airways if they are allowed back in the air?" and the results at 8:45AM were
YES 25% (2551 votes) NO 75% (7700 votes):!:

Though it is entirely possible that the 75% would never have flown TT anyway.

My prediction:

1) They will fly again (they wouldn't have appointed TD if they weren't intending to)
2) The fares will be cheap enough for people to fly them

Possible
3) They may lose some of their attitude to regulators and customers and employees and suppliers and contractors.

I think that you are on the money.

To be able to most effectively win against CASA, they will need to restart services and fail (presumably by becoming insolvent).

TT may probably make more money out of Australia with this strategy, than if they had never been grounded.

I wonder if Tiger or SIA executives reads this thread?!
