Ooh Tiger, you did it again and are grounded - fly below LSALT (lowest safe altitude)

The relationships are different.Singapore Airlines are an investor in Tiger. Jetstar is part of a two brand strategy within the Qantas group.
Managers manage the business but shareholders via directors own it. The directors IMHO should be looking hard at how they have been governing the business and holding management to account.

Re: Ooh Tiger, you did it again and are grounded - fly below LSALT (lowest safe altit

A few points (but I do admit that Tiger have given CASA every reason to ground them);

1. Compass grounded Christmas Eve / Ansett partially grounded Easter Long Weekend / Tiger grounded School holidays - coincidence right?
2. Most immediate competitor offers 'rescue' fares first in JQ
3. Qantas asks union for 'reprieve' due to the grounding

Apologies for being the conspiracy theorist but really....

Qantas engineers have cancelled strike action planned for next week in the wake of CASA's decision to ground all Tiger Airways flights.

Well SkyNews just confirmed this too.

Yes according to smh:
Qantas engineers have called off industrial action planned for next week because of the grounding of Tiger Airways.

The Australian Licenced Aircraft Engineers Association (ALAEA) had planned rolling stoppages for next week at half a dozen major airports as part of a dispute over pay and conditions.
With the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) grounding all Tiger's domestic flights for a week and tens of thousands of Australians heading away for the school holidays, Qantas asked the union to call off its industrial action "in the national interest".

ALAEA federal secretary Steve Purvinas said next week would be a difficult one for Qantas and other airlines as they geared up to help stranded Tiger passengers.
"I understand the grounding of Tiger Airways by CASA is an Australian first and puts Australia's domestic airlines in a position no one expected, and that is why we believe cancelling the action is the right thing to do," Mr Purvinas said in a statement.

I should really say that I'm surprised, but the truth is that I'm not...

TT was warned 4 months ago that their AOC was in danger... Whilst I do have to say CASA has excellent timing, really you should ask which is better, CASA ignore things for another 2 weeks and not disrupt school holidays and let an airline they know is unsafe continue flying, or alternatively ground an airline, disrupt plans, but know that an unsafe airline is not in the air...

On the bright side, the other three have steped upto the plate, so I don't think there is going to be an overly big disruption in people's travel plans.

The CASA staff probably have to "finish" their work before their holidays start :)

There's no conspiracy. JQ executing very good tactics and first out of the blocks too. I'd be stealing market share too in this setting, fly an associate of an airline renowned for safety for a little bit more? I would have war-games this in advance given the previous CASA warnings.

Yup, QF Group were just faster to act than DJ is all, no conspiracy just quicker.

Tiger Airways Australia is a wholly owned subsidiary of Tiger Airways Holdings Limited, which is publicly listed on Singapore Exchange

As of February 2010, Tiger Airways is publicly listed on the Singapore Exchange:

Singapore Airlines Limited (32.9%)
The Capital Group Companies Inc. 8.1%
Dahlia Investments Pte Ltd 7.4%
Schroder Investment Management Group 5.05%

Wow CASA using heavy words on camera!

Saying Tiger is a serious and imminent threat to passengers if they kept flying... Pilots not up to scratch, maintenance not anywhere near Aus standards and management inadequate.

Ouch....

Very strong words indeed. Haven't seen the video but if that is the kind of tone they are using, I'll be very surprised if Tiger Australia ever fly again.

Re: Ooh Tiger, you did it again and are grounded - fly below LSALT (lowest safe altit

Can't see Tiger recovering from this - reading other forums saying how bad the problems are, they are not just two incidents of low altitude).

But really, I can't say I am surprised. And sadly the passengers don't learn - you think the TV show would be enough to turn people off. If they don't recover, I hope the passengers actually realise how many people will be out of a job and thier expense due to thier cacnelled flight doesn't compare.

In saying that, you can be a LCC and still be a good business that is safe - Southwest, Ryanair fall into that category.

Re: Ooh Tiger, you did it again and are grounded - fly below LSALT (lowest safe altit

I'm dumbfounded at the comments on the No News websites.
People are saying that QF should be grounded because of their incidents, that DJ should be grounded because of the price of their fares, and JQ becuase they will be the only LCC now...
Also people saying that it is a big conspiracy with QF/JQ and CASA..

WTF are these commenters on?:-|:p
Reminds me of a South Park ep where someone takes a dump in a urinal and they blame 9-11 and the government for it!
