As far as I know, I thought the OOL lounge was to open in June/July

No its not:

Virgin Australia Gold Coast Lounge

Has anyone heard any news on the Virgin Australia Lougne at OOL? I would have thought by now we would see construction, or at least a area of the airport close in preperation for the new lounge. Would be interesting to see where its location will be.

*Glances at Crazydave & Virgin Australia * Any word?

Re: Virgin Australia Gold Coast Lounge

I can't imagine there's much room at OOL for any decent sized lounge.

I really hope the lounge will be built on the perimeter of the building. I hate the JQ lounge, no natural light, yucky.

Re: Virgin Australia Gold Coast Lounge

I heard the lounge got relocated to Metricon Stadium ;)

Don't get my started.... I got a preview of a headline "Virgin Australia Gold Coast lounge pics..." and got all excited, when my phone finally loaded the news story. I upset me.

I know a guy who was some kind of manager at OOL, well my wife knows his wife so next time I'll see if I can find anything out about a new OOL Virgin Lounge, but I would not get your hopes up ..... just like the cheese ads 'good things take time' same goes for the team that play that funny ping pong footy type game at that funny new stadium ????

Re: Virgin Australia Gold Coast Lounge

No building application has been lodged yet, it will be a while!

Re: Virgin Australia Gold Coast Lounge

Yeah the lounge for Corporate clients is open at the Metricon Stadium. But the new airport lounge is due to open 4Q this year. So signs of construction but can't wait for it to open.

4Q this year? Wow, that's quicker than I'd imagined. I was half expecting some reasonable building works down near gate 1. Maybe not eh?

It will happen. I'm sure it will. We're all waiting for it and I think it will be well used.
I wouldn't be surprised it Jetstar closes their lounge and Virgin takes over and renovates the space.

It might be an opportune time if the VA reps could give us either

a) yes, planning underway, timing tba
b) no current plans

Or at least some engagement?

Frnakly, it amazes me VA dont build a lounge there pronto. It's a prime market to steal travellers who are upset about QF Jetstarising the routes to OOL. Soon, there'll also be J seating on VA to OOL and with that an expectation of lounge access.

Why, they have 6 months to produce a lounge as promised, whats the hurry? Given the time it took to rebuild Melbourne, at around 2 months, there is still plenty of time for them to conclude negotiations with gold coast airport which is probably the biggest drag on progress like it was in PER.

Well OOL would be nice, but HBA would be even better

I mean HBA has enough DJ capacity to warrant it, Cmon! ;)

After the unfortunate toaster incident involving Misha, we've had to push back the opening of the remaining Lounge projects.... no just kidding!

As Markis says, the plan was always for later in 2011, and at this stage I can't offer any more info besides that.

Approximate number of departures

OOL: 21 departures/day plus a smattering of NZ and Pacific Blue flights as part of the partnership
TSV: 10 departures/day
CNS: 10 departures/day plus NZ flights/Pacific Blue flights
HBA: 7 departures/day

I think HBA makes sense from a business/government travel perspective, but OOL is a clear hands down winner here.

OOL and MKY are confirmed so I am not sure what the issue is! BTW MKY has 6 departures a day, but is not seasonal and obviously has a large mining input!

I for one will be making great use of the lounge when it's finally finished. It's always a bit sad that I can use the Lounge in SYD or MEL but not on my outgoing flights.
