OOL Lounge

OOL and MKY are confirmed so I am not sure what the issue is! BTW MKY has 6 departures a day, but is not seasonal and obviously has a large mining input!

No issue, just that HBA is not as an important port in the VA world as people percieve it to be in terms of number of services. TSV/CNS are more significant and are on larger equipment typically.

Why, they have 6 months to produce a lounge as promised, whats the hurry? Given the time it took to rebuild Melbourne, at around 2 months, there is still plenty of time for them to conclude negotiations with gold coast airport which is probably the biggest drag on progress like it was in PER.

err, Markis, BNE has been going as long as the pyramids.............do ya reckon OOL has a chance at bettering that when there's nothing there to start with (not even planning approval )?

Please DJ, we need (want) OOL.

I still think it will either be a replacement of the Jetstar lounge OR they may decide to eat in to some of the baggage handling area directly behind the Hungry Jacks and Toilet area. Then you could have an entrance next to Gate 1 or next to Hungry Jacks.

Personally I hope it's the J* lounge that goes.

Gold Coast Airport » Shops on a Map

Early morning flights I’ve found it dead, but later ones have seen some traffic.

I think if they pulled out, even though it’s not working amazingly well, they’d be giving it all to VA, which can’t be that useful in their grand scheme of things, so it’d be better to stick it out.

There is another option.......above the shops.

At the moment it's just air cond ducts so is possible, but far more expensive.

My money is still with the baggage area (behind gate 1).

Alternatively, they could go outside the security area, but I hope not!

That could work, maybe? It would take a lot of work do have a second story, but you would have pleanty of space and a pretty good view of the airport. (I think?)

Please don't let it be before security, I know there is a lot of space out there, but please. No.

I was thinking about this today too. It would be quite unique on the roof actually. There would be great 360 views of the airport, hinterland and ocean.

I'm with you, not before security. I know it's like this in Melbourne but it's such a pain navigating security if you've left boarding to the last minute. Especially if there's a line up. Priority security screening would solve this partly though.

Melbourne already has Priority screening, very fast and a vast improvement on the chaos you had to encounter previously!

Yeah I've used this before. My question is though, how do they know if your meant to be in that queue? It seems to me you can be anybody and line up in priority. There doesn't seem to be anyone checking if you're meant to be in that line.

Every time I have used the lane in the past 4weeks, which is probably 6 or so times, there has been a Virgin team member there checking the Boarding pass. I have seen people turned back.

Priority Screening wont work in OOL or CNS because they are common user terminals, so the screening point is for more than just DJ. Same reason why you cannot use your QFF card as a boarding pass in CNS, (no point at OOL, nothing to board).

I could be wrong, but I'd say a lounge would fit in under the existing roof. In fact I'd be surprised if they didn't design it to accept a first floor level for expansion........but then again, they didn't opt for aerobridges, preferring that "regional" feel  and they get a good laugh at all those suits running to the plane in the rain .

Had a good laugh at "regional" feel. I heard someone from OOL Airport being interviewed and they said they wanted passengers to get the "holiday" atmosphere, thus no airbridges. If you've ever been caught in a late afternoon storm and you get on the plane saturated, you love the "holiday" atmosphere. They need to get real and put in some bridges considering the amount of traffic using the airport.

Ugh.... At least in the 'old' days. Qantas would provide us with an umbrella if it was raining. These days we just get to sprint. Not fun at all if you are arriving at gate 1. A good 5min walk.

I've said soooo many times we need aerobridges, but I don't think it is happening anytime soon. :(

Why is that? Just because it is a shared terminal doesn't stop Virgin from setting up a separate line, if they can organise it with the airport/security?

Is there some sort of rule that I don't know about? Happy to be proved wrong. (Well... It means we can't get Priority Security)
