OOL Lounge

Also to answer previous queries as to priority screening at OOL, if they were keen to set this up then there'a heaps of space in the security screening area to accommodate at least another line up dedicated to Virgin priority pax.

Sometimes people build airports in the silliest places… with limited room for expansion.

Sometimes people build houses and factories in the silliest places, like near an airport that was there first!

First post on here..yay!
I think I remember hearing somewhere that the lounge is opening up in October/November this year and will be a smaller affair on the ground level. Then again, my source may be wrong, or plans may have since changed. Not too sure where it would appear on the ground level, although I do see some merit in putting it at the southern end there...direct access to baggage services should there be a dedicated checkin and it could also open directly up into the terminal area (perhaps eliminating Gate 1...or even the entry next to it...)
Be nice if it opened a wee bit sooner though! (oh..and in the future, aerobridges could be constructed a la Westchester County, NY where they go up from ground level to the plane...just a thought)

Welcome!

I hope you're right about the aerobridges! During the last few wet years, I've learnt to hate that "regional feel". :(

Qantas use to have umbrellas for people hopping off an aircraft. Wish they did this again. Perhaps Virgin could bring this idea in?

I'm sure Jetstar and Tiger would like to trial the idea, as a paid service. ;)

I miss walking across the tarmac at ADL :(

But no complaints the new shared terminal is awesome, easy to use, and so pretty. All of the aerobridges are glass walled and the entire length of the terminal is glass overlooking the tarmac <3

Hmm not too sure about that area there. It seems too far away from the action, and if you had bags to check you'd need to walk a very long way from the very far end of the terminal to the other very far end.

I still think above the shops would be fine. I've seen this style of lounge in plenty of airports around the world.

In Delhi the lounges are above the shops, works really well..

I know that in some regional ports Virgin has umbrellas people can use to get beetween the plane nad the terminal. Both Proserpine and Coffs come to mind from recent memory...perhaps GC is next? I also hope that aerobridges are installed some time..although on a dry day, I do like the charm of walking across the tarmac - although I'd admit it's more suitable in smaller airports like Charleville and Port Lincoln.

Like Dubai? Awful, loud and stressful.

SYD is above shops (and overlooks the foodcourt). Access via stairs and escalators and there is no real problems with that and very little outside noise can be heard.

Come to think of it, where is the wheelchair access in SYD? Is there an elevator to the concourse I haven't noticed?

Perhaps all will be revealed today. JB and entourage are holding a press conference at OOL this morning. Not sure what it's all about but as I am flying out at 1145 I will see if I can listen in and get some details.

*Gasp* They are? How did you find this out?

I do hope this isn't one of those days where I am glued to my computer all day. I need to get some work done!

Yep announcement due at 11AM.

Extract from the Bulletin.

VIRGIN Australia have remained tight lipped about an announcement set to be made at Gold Coast Airport today.

The airline's chief executive officer and managing director John Borghetti will be joined by Queensland Tourism Minister Jan Jarratt at the 11am announcement, at the airport's check-in counters.

Ms Jarratt's office was also giving little away, referring the Bulletin back to Virgin.

There is speculation the airline may be announcing a new lounge on the Gold Coast after it recently opened an architecturally designed, 200-seat lounge in Brisbane.

Hmm, I think its more than a lounge given the Ministers attendance, I am betting its an announcement about overseas flights ex OOL.

hi one and all, hope you dont mind me adding to this discussion(been non active over a year now,due to family truma)
I hope that JQ isnt lost,as I truly enjoy the lounge access.
If DJ take over,Id be upset,as Im not sure if I want to swap over to DJ flights,so I can have lounge access.

If the tourism minister is involved, then it sounds like it's bigger than just a lounge.

I would head down there and crash the party.... but I need to do productive things today!

I think you're right actually, sounds like OS flights from OOL, most likely as well as the lounge announcement.

Do we suspect may flights to Singapore? To tie in with the Singapore airlines alliance?

Or somewhere else in Asia, perhaps Hong Kong, Thailand or Japan maybe?

But it's sounds pretty major with the CEO and Tourism Minister in attendance.

I've had an umbrella at the Gold Coast airport when boarding with Virgin. It was chucking it down and the staff brought over a big bin of brand new umbrellas for everyone to use. Looking over to the Jetstar flight departing at the same time, no umbrellas, everyone running from the terminal to the plane - They would have been soaked through :(

After seeing that I will never fly Jetstar to the Gold Coast...

Matt.
