OOL Lounge

But, I think only when flying JQ. I usually have to produce a BP and the shinyish WP card to gain access.

I do hope that VA appreciate the sacrifice that I am making by flying with them out of OOL. All that hanging about in the "Food Court" with the great unwashed. Presumably, the only time that they have seen someone in a suit is when they have appeared in Court!

(too harsh?)

Perhaps just a touch

It's an oldie, but a goldie... (pardon the pun)

Gold Coast Barbie Dolls (It helps if you know the suburbs).
tha cough son: Gold Coast Barbies

But hey, let's keep in mind Gold Coast is primarily an inbound market from the southern states... so are you southerners really insulting Gold Coasters, or your own kind...?

Happy to report that no visible progress has occurred. However, the size of the construction site has increased, all the way to gate three now.

Airport staff told me not to expect the lounge to open until the second half of the year.

Second half of the year! Pretty soon we'll be hearing that the lounge isn't open until next Xmas.

It would be nice if they started to hand out $15 Cafe vouchers at check-in untill the lounge finally opens!

On an OT note..

Has anybody tried that new bar/grill/restaurant up near gate 6? I haven't had a chance to go in and sit down for a meal, but it looks very nice! Much better than the standard OOL fast food.

I had dinner and beer there Tuesday night before my flight. The Chicken Cesar salad was very tasty and a good pre-flight size. The service was attentive, polite and efficient, and akin to what you would expect in a cafe anywhere else. Thumbs up from me. :D

Lots of tats around, but I saw one billionaire and my own apartment building was hosting several millionaires, god knows why. On Cavill Ave. Although the billionaire flies up privately.

Ooooo. Sounds good, I'll have to arrive a little early for my next flight ex OOL. Who knows, I may just spend more time there than in the lounge (when it eventually opens).

This is good news. I tried the cafe in its frst week of trading. The service was shambolic to such an extent they took more than 20 minutes to deliver my coffee. I was in my seat on the 'plane before I got my coffee.

Sounds like things have improved markedly. It has a great design in a good location.

Semi-related, had to book my sister to MEL late notice next week. Looked at BNE and OOL and decided on OOL, JQ down, DJ back. Had the DJ lounge been open I would probably have chosen the slightly more expensive DJ fare for her (she’s on a JQ plus fare and still cheaper), but as it’s not, only chose them from MEL.

They need to hurry along :p

Stood under the lounge now, honestly expected it to be bigger but I assume it will stretch backwards a bit.

Blackstone bar was really nice. Shame it's all the way at the other end of the terminal!

Yes a WP has access to the JQ lounge..

No it's not.
Qantas Club Members

Qantas Club members whose next onward flight that day is a Jetstar operated flight with a JQ, 3K or VF flight number will gain complimentary access to the Qantas Club, where available. Access is not available to Qantas partner airline lounges or associated lounges.

Qantas Club Members can access the Gold Coast or Akarana Lounge upon payment of the Lounge entrance fee when flying on a Jetstar flight.

WPs have access to the JQ lounge.

This is one of the huge "JQ isn't part of QF when they want to be" and "JQ are generally useless" issues. Compare these two statements:

From JQ:
Q. Do Frequent Flyers or Qantas Club members get free or discounted rates into the Gold Coast Lounge?
A. No, the Gold Coast Lounge is an independent Jetstar product offering

On the T&Cs of lounge access page on JQ:
1.9. Platinum Qantas Frequent Flyer members and Chairmans Lounge members may present a current membership card as a valid form of Gold Coast Lounge or Akarana Lounge entry pass for themselves and two guests travelling on a qualifying flight. Bronze, Silver and Gold Qantas Frequent Flyer members and Qantas Club members travelling in economy must purchase entry.

They are morons. Clear and simple. But, Platinum does get access.

Agree with you, they are hiding this info.

No visible progress when I was there late last night, although I was interested to find that the international gates (7-9) have been converted into regular domestic gates for the Summer Holidays.

I had a good look into the construction site through a see through curtain and all I could see was a bunch of steel being placed on the floor.

Where there would usually be a wall and another security screening point is now just more gates. Kinda interesting, I've never seen that part of the terminal before.
