OOL Lounge

I asked on Twitter about the OOL lounge opening date and received no reply....

Much like on here, the Social Media rep/s love avoiding the "harder" questions and instead reply to morons who ask "why do tickets prices fluctuate so much" and other similar questions....

It's far more likely that the opening date is moving around a bit depending on building schedules, compliance stuff, certification, blah blah and they are deliberately not giving a date for fear it might slip or in the hope it may come in early. I would really doubt that they have known the definite date during most of the build process because it involves some factors beyond their control.

Yes, very inconsiderate of DJ......like I mean to say, how can we organise a house warming when we dn't know when the move in date is!

Because they know it'll cost me more if I book flights to the opening party the night before, rather than three weeks out!!

On a serious note, if I'm free on the day it opens, I'll proabley fly up.

Just like Melbourne and Brisbane, nobody knows when it'll open, until the night before basically.

IIRC they were flying press to Melbourne for the MEL Lounge launch, as they were at the airport they moved it to a week later.

Anything can happen, who knows.

This, yet again, goes to show how VA can't roll out new products in a timely or organised fashion

1. Building certification is likely beyond VA's control as anyone who has ever been involved with major construction would know.
2. Refusing to give a concrete announcement date actually avoids raising unrealistic expectations or generating disapointment should the date not be met, and it allows it open sooner should it come in ahead of schedule.

Given there is no actual need beyond satisfying our own curiosity to announce a date i would think this is a perfectly sensible thing to do.

Sorry if we missed your tweet. Honest and simple answer is we don't have a specific date yet. We will of course let everyone know once we do and we'll be excited to share the news.

Not to forget work can only be undertaken at night due to the problems with tools in a sterile area.

But lack of a publicly announced completion date is consistent with VA's other Lounges or Lounge renovations. I thought you preferred consistency?

Yet in Honolulu airport they work in the gate areas during the day and you walk right past the tradies.....
... and how is this relevant?

Different country, different building regulations. Pretty simple really.

Why 'yet again'?

They are no worse at it than the red and white opposition who don't even fly to OOL.

It's the USA...... If anywhere was going to have tight/over the top regulations it would be there, yet in this case they seem more laid back, but then again it was in Hawaii.... I actually walked right past screwdrivers and any other assortment of tools and then got straight on the plane! This was back in June 2010....

I really don't need to list the issues that VA have at the moment with the implementation of new/improved products

Priority boarding has worked about 29 time out of 30 i've witnessed it in action.

Any time access seems hassle free - i'm sitting the VA lounge right now waiting for my JQ flight.

My free platinum upgrades work fine.

Fly ahead has been offered to me on every occasion where there has been a vacant seat and has saved me a small fortune by allowing me to book late evening return flights and swap them for earlier ones.

My 5 or so experiences of J domestic have been flawless (YMMV and obviously has and i'm not disputing that).

I personally think the renovated lounge in Melbourne is a massive improvement over the earlier version.

Kerb side lounge access in Sydney is working fantastically well and i greatly appreciate it.

I am now enjoying HHonors Diamond and extracting a hell of a lot of value of it.

I get a preallocated aisle seat in the first two rows of Y every time i fly (except when i book late or am swapped to an early flight by choice).

In the event of Irrops i am consistently contact in advance (if they are aware in advance) and looked after at the airport if they are not.

The enthusiasm professionalism of the flight crew is evident on most if not all flights i have taken.

The routes i look at are still mostly cheaper and generally comparable to QF - although there are always exceptions.

The generous bonus points i get as a platinum FF (mixed with come CC spend) have allowed me to accrue enough for annual international J class trips for our family of 3 for the last two years.

My partner has found her partner gold status soon to be partner platinum quite valuable.

OTOH... Yes, there are catering issues in J at the moment (i haven't experienced them but they are clearly valid), Aircraft subs are causing issues for a small but significant number of J passengers, the IFE is generally going backwards for the time being and this disappoints me. On the whole the positives are much more than the negatives.

It's particularly ironic to be complaining in the context of the OOL Lounge thread. You might want to ask some Qantas Club members who use OOL a lot for their perceptions of how Virgin are tracking there. Virgin may not be able to tell you the date the lounge will open but i'd imagine Qantas Club members can tell you when the lounge closed and QF dumed the place entirely.
