OOL Lounge

So......escalators or stairs?

Wouldn't it have been so easy for them to do a walkway over the landside concourse and premium entry and security.......for Sir Liam of DJ?

I think a premium entry would have been fantastic, but I wonder if they would have the volume of traffic required to justify a dedicated security line?

Maybe it's something they can deploy in the future, perhaps?

Hasn't it been said before, that OOL has a disproportionate amount of status flyers?

Correct, I keep hearing that GC has the highest Platinum membership per head of capita for DJ ports.

Good point. I remember being told this at some point too.

But there is nowhere near as many flights (and as a result, pax) as Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane.

heaven help us, when will this lounge open? I have flights booked out of OOL in three weeks... and am sorely tempted to use ATA to attend any opening day celebrations if we are given fair notice.

I would happily drive from Robina to Coolangatta for the opening. Might even change some of my flights to be out of OOL!

Yeah they probably just get it open as early as they possibly can, refraining from doing any announcements that might end up being either at too short notice (not that it could hurt them very much I suppose), or they get let down by some contractor related mishap or other misadventure. Remember the early estimates were to have this thing open in March.

It would be good to have a date so we could organise aforementioned opening party. Perhaps I should suggest something like 'the first Saturday arvo at 2pm following the day the OOL lounge is opened' for the date of such a party. That'll give us at least a couple of days notice and still be pretty close to the actual opening day. And we'll all know the day it actually opens cause it will be posted about here, elsewhere, and press releases, etc. Think of the photo ops of a line of half a dozen/a dozen of us all lined up with our free Asahis and Plat/Gold cards in hand looking (and being) the biggest, most spectacular group of w@nkers ever.

I'm only half kidding here. I travel by car to Bris from Ballina every weekend and can very easily step into the lounge at very short notice. Anyone else crazy enough to be keen on this idea? It would be even cooler to get some official sanction on this - what better group of people to round up for a media stunt celebrating the opening of a new lounge than a bunch of lounge starved frequent fliers, delighted to be free from the noisy unsanitary food court and comfy-seating-and-for-that-matter-all-seating-free-zone that is OOL? Never again will we be forced to stand ankle deep in weewee when using the men's room. Never again will we endure that noise and the echo of noise.

I'll even wear a purple tie.

The Sydney premium entry is often very quiet. I just don't think there would be the absolute volume of premium pax to justify it at OOL. It is a really good service in Sydney though, so having it elsewhere would be nice.

Well, they've recently answered someone's question about it:

https://twitter.com/#!/lizziepops/status/197552178209099776

Well it's not me, but it's the standard answer, it is simply not possible they do not have a date. It just reeks of poor Management of the project

Would be a precedent if you got an answer, no lounge opening has been announced to the public prior to the day.

Indeed, but the point of social media is to answer all questions, not just the easy ones.

Once a business starts ignoring the "harder" questions my level of respect for them goes downhill FAST

At the same time they did reply to another person about it with the stock standard and pathetic response

Maybe they're just trying to avoid the BNE fiasco, where the floor was poorly finished, so they had to close the lounge soon after launch (and it looked terrible for weeks and weeks afterwards).

At the end of the day, I'd rather they not commit to a date until they can deliver the service at a decent standard. Better to under promise and over deliver etc. etc.

Seems they are answering the questions then, you just dont like the response! FWIW the MKY date changed in the week before it was meant to open, better to say nothing than to set false expectations.

Nope they ignored my first 2 tweets, so until now NO they didn't answer the question and the response is typical vague Virgin style

It is simply not possible they don't have a date!

False expectations, you don't want to hear my rant on their J class again do you

Already read it:

Back to QF for me (for most flights) and towards lifetime gold I go

Enjoy your OOL QF flights , and yes they have a date, but it will probably change so why release it. Like I said, neither airline releases dates for new lounges in recent times, for good reason.

I know this is a different discussion for a different thread (and perhaps you'll direct me too it) but I've never been interested in the whole DJ vs QF discussions/shoe-polish fights that sometimes go on here because for me, like others who live well away from metro areas or the regional centres that QF does service, I don't really see a choice. Flying JQ does me no good, as far as I can see, having an inferior all round product to DJ (and I hope that's not a controversial point) and DJ and Velocity offer a hell of a lot to people like me who are happy to sign up to point generating credit cards and use VA internationally. Almost all the flying I do QF isn't an option and when it is, like the occasional flight I do from BNE to SYD or internationally, DJ beat them on price and value and despite doing a fair old bit of flying in the last 5 years, I've never flown QF in my life.

There's too many threads to list! :) I suggest putting on your "flame-retardant" suit in preparation for any responses here though ;)
