OOL Lounge

There's too many threads to list! :) I suggest putting on your "flame-retardant" suit in preparation for any responses here though ;)

So true.
I used to really enjoy reading in the VA/DJ threads.
But now Most threads revert to business class Catering & -700 & E190 Business class seats. it gets a bit annoying.

ps. I do still really enjoy reading/participating, just slightly less. ;)

Enjoy your OOL QF flights , and yes they have a date, but it will probably change so why release it. Like I said, neither airline releases dates for new lounges in recent times, for good reason.

Not that hard to fly via BNE.. Much better choice of prestige cars from Hertz too out of OOL. They are close to impossible to get out of OOL.....

I have in-fact cancelled 2 MEL-OOL-MEL flights on VA

Booked 1 in QF J and the other in Y :(

I don't agree there.

It took me 30mins (My record was 20 if I got all the green lights) from my apartment in Broadbeach to get to OOL, parking is $12 a day and just meters from the terminal, quick and easy to get around the terminal and many less queues. Where as it's a 80min+ drive to BNE with tolls along the way, and who knows how much for parking.

When I lived on the Gold Coast I switched from driving up to BNE to fly QF to flying Virgin out of OOL and never looked back, I know we joke around sometimes but IMO Gold Coast airport is a much better solution, especially when the lounge opens.

I was hoping to use the new Lounge for my flight to MEL on 19th May for the AFF Museum/Lunch do but VA have just cancelled my flight.
I am now flying from BNE so will definitely have Lounge facilities. Mind you with a departure at 0555 a coffee is about all I can handle

I know there are at least 3 others going to that event on that same flight. Should be a looooooonggg day. (awesome long day for those coming back on the 8pm ex Mel )

I was the same, when I moved to the GC in 2005 I remained loyal to QF and made the trek up to BNE and back everytime I wanted to fly domestically (unless it was Sydney where I could use the OOL-SYD QF service) but when DJ relaunched I switched over to flying out of OOL (I live 10-15 mins max from OOL airport) and have never looked back.

Do I like the terminal, not at all, it feels like a Westfield Food Court, but it beats all that wasted time travelling to BNE and a lounge is just going to sweeten the deal for me.

There's only one thing worse than a Westfield food court..........and that's the Westfield carpark, which is what the M1 to BNE can turn into.

+1 for OOL airport (pity flights don't go north).

+1 on the food court likeness

The OOL airport is even more disaster when any type of rain falls, gestapo type traffic controllers, add frequent delays & the random roaming shoeless/shirtless bogans lingering in arrival area, what a scenic welcoming!

Well that's because you live in QLD

I live in MEL so the parking cost is not counted

For me it's a slight extra drive in a car that isn't mine, a small cost for petrol and about 1 hour of my time as I drive outside of peak times

Plus the choice of prestige cars out of BNE is another factor

So for say, $20 in petrol and 2 and a bit hours of my time, I miss the food court atmosphere of OOL, walking in the rain and no lounge

<redacted> OT

Anyway, on what date is the lounge opening?

No one knows, not even VA it seems........ Funny way to manage a building project

Going more OT but it is related to OOL... The prestige collection, at times, can be cheaper to rent than a full size. If you look at Europcar, you can rent an A4 Avant cheaper than a Subaru Forester...

Anyways I am up to OOL and back on Friday this week and the next 3 weeks

Maybe I'll get to use the lounge in May!

If there any any changes from the latest photos in this thread I'll post them up, but I'll assume nothing will change now until it opens.

My flights in June are to/from BNE on QF, so I'll assume the OOL lounge will open at that stage

I'm at OOL now. The wall fittings look like they are yet to be completed.

Apart from that not much to report on.

The downside of the Audis are the limited kms. OK for just running around the coast as long as you don't want to go for country drives too far.

I have always had unlimited KMs on the Audis as I book the class lower and have always gotten an upgrade with privlage elite to the Audi A4 or A6.

Nice tip. Upgrades don't always happen though. Booked a Golf today, got a Golf. I didn't mind though, as I haven't driven a Golf for ages and they are certainly a fun drive (better than an A3 I reckon).

So not open for my trip to Melbourne tomorrow then Liam :-(

Nope. If you board via gates 1/2 you get quite a good view of the lounge from outside, you can see it's of similar design to MEL/BNE, white roof pannels shaped like a leaf ect ect.

I was thinking yesterday what a lovely view we will have looking down on the Hungry Jacks queue.

They may even "frost" the glass, or may leave it open as an advertisement to QF SG/WPs flying Jet* ;)

Not sure how you drive to BNE but my commutes centre around the 50 minute mark. Occasionally traffic can be hectic but those times it adds about 10 minutes. Yes, one day it could add a whole lot more but I plan around traffic and usually avoid it.

I do agree 20-30 minutes is better than 50 minutes but it has never taken me 80 minutes. Touch wood.

Parking is a lot more attractive though, but they're just CC points is how I look at it.

Which is why I don't consider JQ to be a valid option from OOL instead of the drive to BNE. If it rains I'm screwed. That's not useful to me at all.

Was thinking it'd be nice to raise a glass to the lower class below, until of course you have to board with them ;)

And yes, it could be an advertisement for QF SG members, the WPs will be in the box, and drinking before you're allowed to drink too ;)
