It is very steep, I don't understand why they priced so high.....but can qantas pax purchase one off lounge access and for how much? I ask this as a general question I know QF doesn't have a QP at OOL only a JQ 'lounge'.

$35 is fair. Anything over $50 you are better off going to a nice cafe before the airport....

If 2 people are thinking of paying that amount ($120), you'd be better of getting a Limo to the airport and having a few beers at a airport bar. Probably work out cheaper.

I think that's partly the point. @ $35, it becomes a cheap fixed price lunch and grog option for all and sundry. What's a Corona at an airport bar? $8 or so, so 3 of them and a ham sandwich makes the Lounge a better option.........and more crowded for us lot that use the facility for more than just cheap grog! @ $60, it alleviates that pub option.

JB probably refers to his new OOL lounge as a "business lounge" to differentiate it from this place -

...which is now about as far from a "lounge for business travellers" as you can get, but at $10 pre-pay & $15 at the door (N/C for WP & CL) certainly stands out for value; in the "snack food, beer/wine & wifi" lounge category.

I thought that $50 was the upper side of lounge entry.

$60 = l wouldn't pay that much to visit a lounge unless l was in transit for more than 4-5 hours and it would have to be a F Lounge too, like QF F SYD/MEL or LH FCT.

$60 for a Domestic lounge is pushing it and l wouldn't bite.

Airport Lounges from £13.50 - VIP Treatment for All Travellers | Affordable VIP Lounge Access Starting from £13.50

Heathrow paid lounges - From £17.95

Indeed - $60 would have been ok if you could get a guest in with you on that. Who knows, maybe some corporat types can put it on their expense claims.

Maybe VA are setting the price high ($60) to discourage people from going into the Lounge and using it like the QC (aka, QP) and getting sloshed before a flight. Time will tell

i will stick to good ole JQ and their lounge, really arent too fazed on such a short and cheapy flight to/fro MEL OOL,it wouldnt push me over to DJ with such a price,ID rather turn up at check in,go through the usual procedures and go straight to the gate, than bother with such an expensive lounge.
By hiking the price to maybe deter the wrong clientele, dont bet your last dollar on that one.

Nah, the're redeploying SYD Lounge Bar staff for that ....

I am pretty sure they are upping the price to encourage lounge memberships/ pax to gain status and to cater for the anticipated extra demand from all the NZ, SQ, Delta, etc FF'ers who are accessing it now. Casual access isn't really part of the business model anymore.

Despite the fact they've cut off priority pass and upped the price the lounge seems as full if not fuller than ever. Seems to be a LOT of connecting NZ passengers around of late or am i just imagining that?

And to make Y+/J just a bit more appealing perhaps. I agree that the lounges do seem busier of late. Casuals will want the facility (usually) for a longer connecting wait or a piss-up. For the first category, the new price is not extreme and for the second, less attractive (but it won't stop drunks, if they are prepared to pay $60 instead of going to the pub, you can bet they'll want their bang for their buck).

Sorry I missed you - We need AFF signs to wear when we are out and about at the airports! :p Interesting news about the extension UP.

Perhaps we need another run of AFF tags, although considering both FT and MP have done well with flimsy plastic, we could go cheaper :) Do we have any left of the old type? I’m fresh out. I gave all mine away :o

It'll be $65 at the door. or $60 if you pre-purchase online.

It’s $65/$55.

I actually quite like it, it might not be business, but it works very well, and you can get a beer from the tap at 6AM. I doubt you’ll be able to do that in the Virgin Australian lounge.

Yeah, I’d think they’re trying to push people to buy annual memberships for savings.

I don't think I want to revisit that one too quickly..

That's what I think as well - frankly I like the idea; the more shiny cards that have access to the lounges, the more crowded they're going to get. The new price is a good discouragement! :p

And I doubt that most business travellers would want to get a beer at 6am, as they start their work day!

IMO the Gold Coast Lounge is more like a cross between a child-minding facility and typical Jetstar flyer's home lounge/kitchen, so while that may "work very well" for some of Jetstar's low yielding and/or infrequent customers, it is simply not appealing to Jetstar's more frequent or higher yielding customers, whom Jetstar generally abandon with lack of recognition & service, by concentrating on customers who fly with them once, maybe twice a year!

At OOL Virgin will be able to target Qantas Group's hold on its business customer base, at its (self-made) weakest point.

The Jetstar Lounge fails to work for business travellers in a number of ways - for example; front desk staff are unable to check-in passengers, they closed down the shower facilities, there are no work designated spaces, the seating is designed specifically for groups of people travelling together, the barnyard atmosphere is not conducive to peace and quiet, no QP/SG access...

Beer at 6am !

I just want some bacon and eggs a good coffee and a quite conducive place to prepare for the work ahead.

I think that the JQ lounge suits some peoples requirements, and maybe not others,if you dont like it,you dont use it and you can fly DJ and us their lounge.
I for one have no problems with the JQ lounge.Maybe they will take note and increase the standards a little to suit more pax?
Id hapily pay a little more.

I’m not saying anyone would actually have a beer at 6AM, but the feel of the lounge is very international, rather than domestic where we’ve had bar opening times pushed to as late as 4PM in the past. They do offer some good things, and of course there’s room for improvement, but I don’t have a problem with the offering they have now, it’s very good value.

Not sure if there’s bacon and eggs though, last time I was there the food was very Asian-influenced, which was quite nice and with their flights to Japan from there it makes sense, even if you have to go back through security to get to the gate.
