Oz Federal Election 2013 - Discussion and Comments

Oh and the blue tie was clearly a comment about Abbott and his 2IC not their standard of dress or presentation.

When did Julie Biship - Deputy Leader of Liberal Party - become a man with blue tie?

By Gillard's standard, if I ever commented to my partner that "Your butt looks big in that dress", I will be labeled as a sexist, misogynist pig... Oh well, I think I will migrate to Saudi and become a Muslim... at least I can really be a misogynist with 3 wives or 72 Virgins if I do something extremely stupid...

Much ado about nothing....

+1.

Good to know our politicians and the media are focussing on the important things, and not trivial things like policies that will shape the future of the country.

Any wonder so many people are disengaged, when politics is basically being reduced to school children teasing each other in a school yard.

Well the fellow who leaked the menu has now apologised to Mal Brough-
THE chef who released the offensive menu depicting Julia Gillard as a quail says Mal Brough has his "full sympathy". David Carter admitted he has no evidence the LNP candidate and former Howard Government Minister had seen the menu on the night of a function in Brisbane.

Mr Carter, who said he was not a member of the Labor Party but admitted to Sky News he had posted offensive tweets previously about Opposition Leader Tony Abbott, had lost his job at the café months before the March function.

He released the menu, a picture of which was taken off a staff member’s Facebook page, because it was offensive to Ms Gillard.

“I had no idea this was going to go this viral and have this kind of an impact. Of course he (Mal Brough) has my full sympathy,” Mr Carter said.

Breaking news in the Australian just under the gonski link by Pushka.

The Gonski story is by far the more important.WA was initially offered a funding package of $320 million.Julia said they got their sums wrong and the total package is now $920 million.Only about 200% out.And they are now probably going to have to pay NSW more.Incompetence in financial management is the hallmark of this Government.

Shame their salary package isn't based on performance like us mere mortals.

And how many asylum seekers have lost their lives this week and all we are talking about is blue ties. Shame.

I think as is common, these heinous crimes usually only apply if you are typically a white male... I have heard indigenous people produce the fouless, racist rants and not be picked up, women can drop all the innuendos etc, ethnic groups, religious groups... You know who will usually catch the biggest earful for any transgressions...

As TA has said, when you have no record left to run on you gotta dig up side issues and head off on tangents... What on earth have they done that hasn't ended up costing us more, failing miserably or under performing, or ended as a complete fiasco... Division and distraction is about all Labor have left and many are counting the days till they are history and we can start digging ourselves out of the hole we're in and hopefully coming together...

Do you think she will be classy enough to issue and apology and clarification?? No me neither...

And why would any state government touch any of these policies with a ten foot pole with the current govt a dead man walking... or dead person to be PC... Just see through the next few months and again try to put something workable together...

Gillard. "An apology? Why? I can call you what I like, I am a woman. Why is that fat man over there laughing?"

SA is about to sign Gonski. Premier won't say whether the funding offer was improved. Currently it's below the other states.

"On a per-student basis, SA will receive about half as much federal cash as NSW, Queensland and Tasmania. Prime Minister Julia Gillard and Premier Jay Weatherill have said SA gets less because more is already spent here on schools.

But an analysis of education spending and student outcomes by The Advertiser - based on Federal Government funding figures, a Productivity Commission report, Australian Bureau of Statistics data and test results - gives ammunition to critics who accuse the Federal Government of using Gonski funding to boost its election prospects in the eastern states."

Probably just more votes to be bought in the other states... Remember how much time she spent on that ridiculous photo op in Western Sydney... Not many votes going in WA so no wonder we got stuff all first up...

"I am the best person to lead the Labor Party," Julia Gillard said this morning.
I cannot wait for the day. I want this to be the biggest defeat ever seen.

Anything less would be a disappointment....

I feel the same way, but I'm still not going to vote Liberal. I'm going to vote for whichever independent or minor party candidate sounds like a reasonable person with qualities I can admire. In the Senate I never vote the party line. I vote for the candidates, and I order them any way I feel, regardless of party.

Unfortunately, the way our system works, I've got to eventually rank one major party candidate over another. So I generally vote against the incumbent, unless they have done an impressive job, which is very bloody rare.

I cannot say that I have a real lot of confidence in the Coalition to deliver better outcomes. I expect them to be more honest and honourable about it: Rudd and Gillard have delivered new lows in dishonesty and deception.

So how does the LNP get around their signature "turn back the boats" policy not being welcomed by Indonesia? What we hear again from a high ranking Indonesian politician (Vice President no less) is it isn't going to happen.

Serious question rather than criticism of the policy ... How they will handle this as the policy seems to be at odds with the country they need to cooperate with (at least publicly)? Do TA and Julie Bishop know something we don't or this will turn into a non core promise?

Three years of calling the Prime Minister a liar could backfire as the LNP could be setting themselves up for a return favour here, right?

We might be talking semantics here. My understanding is that Australians want the asylum-seekers to stop coming and the mechanics of how that works is secondary.

If the boats don't set out at all, then that's as good as turning them back. Better.

The Pacific Solution stopped the boats. All Abbott needs to do is rebuild that. He will have a solid mandate to do it. And a lot of other things.

Those potential solutions aside, he has made a very big deal about turning back the boats. He must know that the ALP will zone in on that the second they can. He won't be able to suggest "it wasn't safe to turn that boat around" every time and expect to get away with it.

Why not? The ALP will have about a third of the Opposition benches under their bottoms. The rest of the room will be Coalition.

Please explain this "Pacific Solution" to me and how it differs from current policy.
