Could it be that sick days in UK is less because higher unemployment (nearly 8%) and those who have jobs realize the economy is a coughped out.

And still Mr Tony complaining about government policies that still produced unemployment rate only matched by power house manufacturing western economy of Germany.

It wasn't the fact that there were dodgy operators, but that Garrett had been warned, months before there were both dodgy operators and dangerous practices, and he did nothing about it.

There had been too many warnings over too many months - 13 of them, according to environment spokesman Greg Hunt - before Garrett finally got around to banning metal fasteners last November after one death. It was another three months - and two more deaths - before he put a stop to the foil-insulation scheme.

With hindsight the use of foil insulation and metal staples should have been banned from the start, as the industry was basically unregulated and so was ripe for rorting. I put my own insulation in many years ago and whilst I didn't always wear all the recommended safety gear, I was installing the traditional batts and I wouldn't have considered stapling foil to rafters that were criss-crossed with live cables. Unfortunately a few young installers trusted their employer and the authorities to keep them safe, and maybe didn't pause to think of the situation they were in. Unfortunately this phenomena was/is not limited to the insulation scheme - in fact hundreds of people die in the workplace each year - but any new initiative gets more attention and the scheme was rightly shut down.

And I don't want to appear callous, but stories of 4 people dying in a single car accident don't seem to raise quite as much hysteria, so why drag this one out now?

Still not one policy from My Sabbot and his supports. And still cant say anything good, even today when Australia again given Triple A rating..

Mr Internet of Australia , I guess is starting to see what support he can get from other members around him.

Who is Sabbot? If you are talking of Abbott, then when the election is called, and all the financial information is made available to him along with Treasury advisors then he will make his Policy statements. There's no point going anywhere until Rudd dissolves Parliament.

There are risks with driving car, but who would have thought there was a risk having insulation installed. I think you will find it got dragged out now because others were wanting a list of poor policy/planning.

But I've always said, if your number is up, or your house is going to get burned down, make sure it also happens to a lot of other people at the same time and all the financial and emotional support is yours. If it's just your house burning down to a dodgy heater then no-one really gives a toss. So I get your drift.

Im no carpenter, but was taught not to drive nails into anything unless u know what u nailing into.

U should read this article. It showed that before the program of roofing insulation QUOTE (Watson 2010) "Officials in Garrett's department told a Senate committee hearing that the pre-program rate of installations was 65,000 to 70,000 a year, with 80 to 85 insulation-related fires a year. Roughly 30 per cent were linked to new installations, on industry estimates. The program insulated more than 1.1 million homes. If 94 fires have been linked to this, the implication is that the fire risk was roughly four times lower than before, even as the number of installations rose 15-fold."
Lets get our facts right

Even if your facts are wrong. We have been through this before. The fires were at a higher rate than before the plan.Funny but all the reports that I had about this plan by Government Departments now come back with access denied or page not found. Also why did Kevin rudd not release the Australian national audit Office's report into the pink batts scheme.
But here is one report from the SMH stating that as fires have now FALLEN to the pre pink batts rate inspections will now cease-
Safety checks for pink batt scheme to be wound up

Building standards are building standards and they are set by the state governments. Why is Garrett expected to enforce state government set building standards? Why is Garrett blamed for dodgy operators? (Besides your political leanings) Why is it the business owners don't wear any blame for being dodgy and the ALP is expected to save them from themselves in your world view?

Finally 13 incidents (I assume based on your numbers) out of how many houses who got insulation? What's the incidence rate?

As I said Abbott propaganda, a beat up to suck people into thinking there was a problem.

I'm not convinced the nbn is the best way to go given the speed. By the time we get it, it will be outdated. We don't even have a date yet. But yes the principle is there.
Sorry to hark back some pages but I am trying to catch up.

I think this comment shows how much of a failure this Government is at selling it's policies. FTTP cannot become "outdated", the electorate is completely unaware of the properties and reasons for spending this money on telecomms.

There's only four people who would say it was a problem. And they aren't around to talk about it.

Your post is somewhat misleading - here is a quote from the article:

The CSIRO claims it has found a way to transmit wireless broadband faster and up to four times more efficiently than existing technology.
It says the system, designed for towns of fewer than 1000 people, would enable households to upload and download data at speeds of 12 megabits a second.
The system would not work in areas with high population densities. ''We have designed something specifically for remote and rural areas,'' Dr Oppermann said. ''If you move to a metropolitan or dense area you do not get the line of sight.''

Gee that will be great !!! And I dont think the internet was invented by the CSIRO either !!!

thanks re finding the article. I had heard on our local (rural) ABC radio station and they made it sound a lot more impressive.

Just how much Government advertising are we going to get until the election date is set in concrete?
They have started to soak us with advertisements using our tax paid dollars and a runaway budget deficit.

Working in Armidale for the last 5 weeks the government advertising was incredible. Now that Tony Windsor has said he is retiring I wonder whether there will be less when I go back in 2 weeks.

Then why did Rudd sack him from that ministry.

Yep. And until they call an election it's all one sided and funded by us.

I think it shows the intense and constant stream of disinformation from major media outlets against the NBN.
