Re: Where will you be election day (September 14th)

Rudd's attempt to spruik his economic credentials - such as they are - may be ineffectual. Labor voters don't care.
The point of "spruiking economic credentials" isn't to capture Labor voters, it's to capture swinging voters.

Re: Where will you be election day (September 14th)

Yeah but all the donkey voters end up having their vote shipped over to the ALP - two party preferred style.
Something people should keep in mind as they decide whether or not to waste their vote, is that electoral funding is determined by percentage of primary vote.

So if you don't give a damn, at least put the two major parties last, and find an independent or minor party to put first, so we can try and get a bit more diversity into our politics.

Re: Where will you be election day (September 14th)

Preference deals apparently must be made by August 17. As I recall it was the ALP and Coalition preference deals that effectively buried One Nation (as well as all the internal disputes).

Its interesting that media sources are suggesting that Bob Katters KAP may possibly do preference deals with the ALP and Clive Palmer's PUP may be more likely to preference the LNP despite the widely reported split between Palmer and the QLD division of the LNP, apparently Katter and Rudd get along better than Katter does with the ALP. The greens and the ALP will likely do a preference deal despite all the Green's posturing to the contrary.
Yeah. Once the big parties realised One Nation was a threat, they began preferencing each other. It will be interesting to see where Katter and Palmer fit into the preference deals.

Of course, registering preferences only applies to "above the line" senate votes. I normally ignore that easy option and how-to-vote cards in favour of my own individual preference.

And that's always an independent or minor party first.

Not at all. There's a difference between mentioning naz_s and intentionally invoking Godwin's Law:

There are many corollaries to Godwin's law, some considered more canonical (by being adopted by Godwin himself)[SUP][3][/SUP] than others.[SUP][1][/SUP] For example, there is a tradition in many newsgroups and other Internet discussion forums that once such a comparison is made, the thread is finished and whoever mentioned the naz_s has automatically lost whatever debate was in progress.[SUP][7][/SUP] This principle is itself frequently referred to as Godwin's law. It is considered poor form to raise such a comparison arbitrarily with the motive of ending the thread. There is a widely recognized corollary that any such ulterior-motive invocation of Godwin's law will be unsuccessful.[SUP][8][/SUP]

...thereby invoking Godwin's law.

I think you may have an understanding of "invoke" at odds with the actual meaning:

Invoke
Verb
Cite or appeal to (someone or something) as an authority for an action or in support of an argument.
Call on (a deity or spirit) in prayer, as a witness, or for inspiration.

You cited Godwin's Law as an authority for your opinion on The Telegraph's use of Third Reich imagery. You didn't make a comparison to naz_s/Hitler/Third Reich, you were the first person in this thread to mention Godwin's Law, citing it as your authority.

as I said try reading what you wrote. The last 2 sentences say much more that invoke. Here is the text:

It is considered poor form to raise such a comparison arbitrarily with the motive of ending the thread. There is a widely recognized corollary that any such ulterior-motive invocation of Godwin's law will be unsuccessful

Lets break it down into the elements:
A) Raise a such a comparison arbitrarily with the motive of ending the thread
B) Such ulterior-motive (as in point A) invocation will be unsuccessful

  1. I DID NOT make an arbitrary comparison to naz_sm.
  2. I have no motive to end a thread
  3. I did not make an ulterior-motive comparison to naz_sm to end a thread, so success or otherwise is irrelevant, as I didn't make the comparison in the first place.

Simply put it does not say what you are claiming. Feel free to continue in your delusion safe in the knowledge that you are just plain wrong.

Liberal HQ sending questions for the PM to press gallery journos.

This pic was posted by Latika on facebook:

Hmmm, I don't like Libtika's chances of any more photo ops with JBish at those intimate little coughtail parties they're both so fond of, not if she's going to start criticising the LNP like this. It's not like her to put ethics above self-interest - the world's clearly gone mad!

You didn't make the comparison. The Telegraph did. I'd quibble about that, as I don't think that Colonel Klink was portrayed as a naz_, merely a Luftwaffe officer, but that's by the by. You had nothing to do with the photo.

What you did was to invoke Godwin's Law.

Re: Where will you be election day (September 14th)

One thing that frightens me more than Stephanie Bannister is the idiot that will actually vote for her.

Re: Where will you be election day (September 14th)

Another good read from the SMH Moods, yes, the SMH! Mr Rudd, if you want respect, make Dastyari earn his seat

"If Labor is to erase the stench in NSW it needs to look beyond apparatchiks. Dastyari has never worked outside politics. He has never had to face the judgment of the people"

The guy he pushed out of the way to get an easy 3 year appointment is replacing Peter Garrett in the seat of Kingsford Smith Labor registrations rejected for Peter Garrett's seat Yes, you guessed it - another party hack with limited life experience other than hanging around the likes of Obied.

"Senator Thistlethwaite, a former union leader and party general-secretary, is expected to win preselection with the backing of the party machine. But his chances were dealt a blow on Wednesday with the toxic endorsement of Labor exile Eddie Obeid, who said he was the best candidate."

Good to see Rudd cleaning up the NSW ALP branch - looks like it's all sorted!

I didn't know whether to laugh or cry and I am really disappointed I don't have a candidate in my electorate. In fact, my electorate is largely devoid of obscure/weird minor parties so its a bit short on laughs. I do take comfort from the fact that my father and sister live in Sophie Mirabella's electorate and I don't.

And what's even better is they have 3 elected members on the NSW legislative council.

Re: Where will you be election day (September 14th)

How ridiculous is this post? Let me count the ways ......

Another good read from the SMH Moods, yes, the SMH!

WTF is that supposed to mean? Do you run any of this stuff past your butler to avoid embarrasing yourself???

"If Labor is to erase the stench in NSW it needs to look beyond apparatchiks. Dastyari has never worked outside politics. He has never had to face the judgment of the people"

And yet they go on to say ....

"People in my position should not be able to exercise the kind of power that we've been able to exercise," Dastyari has said. Yet the party machine picks him for the Senate, where everyone knows candidates for the major parties who secure top spots on the ticket are shoo-ins. By contrast, independents or minor party candidates for the Senate actually have to campaign and prove their worth.Dastyari is smart. He has also pursued Rudd's reforms in NSW to reduce the power of factions, root out corruption, allow judicial appeals to head office decisions and ban property developers from membership.

Sounds like a good-guy to help NSW Labour get its act together, don't you think?

The guy he pushed out of the way to get an easy 3 year appointment is replacing Peter Garrett in the seat of Kingsford Smith Labor registrations rejected for Peter Garrett's seat Yes, you guessed it - another party hack with limited life experience other than hanging around the likes of Obied.

Good to see Rudd cleaning up the NSW ALP branch - looks like it's all sorted!

So the former NSW Young Labour president, who Peter Garrett beat for pre-selection in 2004, has finally got the chance that he wanted - to stand for the seat of Kingsford Smith. What exactly is fishy about that?

Will you and Skyring and Col Pot just stop making things up for once in your lives!!!!

Re: Where will you be election day (September 14th)

How ridiculous is this post?

I love the smell of hypocrisy in the morning.

Here's another great article from Fairfax Abbott takes the lead

The sugar hit didn't last very long!

Rudd needs a better campaign team - hanging out at schools and facebook isn't going to secure the votes he needs.
