Non-mainstream?! Are you kidding? I don't know anyone in the generation following the baby boomers who doesn't know rimmer and Kyrten (sp?). ;)

There's a subset represented here, apparently that was glued to kardashians (sp?) on commercial television during the same time slot...

I think it just means it was cough! No need to dig any deeper than that.

Actually I don't watch much tv at all other than the cricket. News and Gruen Transfer ;)

Apparently. But even my daughter knows about rimmer etc. and she's 9. My comment was more a carry over from another thread, where Pushka expressed a disbelief that the baby boomer label applied to them. I just think that not knowing red dwarf is another measure of generational position.

Lol I think a vote for Kev is pretty pathetic actually your boy is going down he is an absolute shambles

My boy. Refer to my earlier posts about rocks in head and idiots. You are serious misguided if you think he's my boy.

Great excitement in the OATEK household. We have submitted our postal votes today and can now tune out of all the campaigning. Now we can just concentrate on our upcoming European odyssey.

Blind allegiance does no one any good. No surprise that it's a hallmark of being a member of the ALP parliamentary team;)

The ALP is a perfect example of how things can go wrong very quickly when you shove views down peoples throats.......Rudd then Gillard then Rudd then wipe out - YMMV

Clearly I'm never going to agree 100% with the party I'm voting for. Does that mean I shouldn't vote?

It's really very easy. What is the difference between the two parties' offers? There is PPL from Abbott that you both oppose. Then there is amaroo's declared hatred of deficits. But if we read The Australia today, on the front page, we find that the coalition is twice as bad as the ALP in terms of overspending and projected deficits. Cookies must be enabled. | The Australian

Otherwise, the both parties are offering the same. So the coalition has an excessively expensive PPL policy and they are a bigger threat to the budget and Australia's debt levels. But you are both going to vote for the coalition. So you are either blindly rusted on coalition voters or you have both totally failed to make an assessment of what's on offer. I'd guess rusted on, in which case your opinion is completely meaningless.

It's a very simple outline what abbott offers that makes him better than the current government, besides you rusted on opinion. So far I see nothing that marks him as different.

one of the "fact check"s I read today indicated a minimum of $18K. Not sure of that was annual or 6 months.

Yep, my mistake. In theory the minimum must be the minimum wage. With a median wage/salary in this country of about $50000, $25000 represents a reasonable guess at the median benefit. By comparison the Government PPL policy is set at the minimum wage.

Mmm you are right Kev's probably not left enough for you looney toons Greens then.

As I said you are delusional. Unless the Greens now support nuclear power?

Then there is amaroo's declared hatred of deficits.

Correct! The record is absolute - the ALP are the clear winners when it comes to racking up the CC.

I said you are delusional. Unless the Greens now support nuclear power?

Have been a supporter of Nuclear Power - in the past. Starting think this stuff is just too much trouble.

The disgraceful stories coming out of Fukushima is a lesson for all!

Fukushima radiation warning over toxic water leak

2 years on and it appears they have no clue.....just a disgrace! The company, Government and I dare say the industry need to hang there heads low.

I'd vote to keep this country nuclear free as much as possible - sure we need medical & the waste it produces.....no need to add power plants.

Wow. You have a way of stabbing people right in the back, don't you. So your daughter knows about rimmer? How on earth does that confirm it has anything to do with a generational position. I'd say it was her watching too much television. As far as the baby boomed label, it was most certainly not attached to my age group when I was younger but seems to have been attached by a group of numpty something's in order to have a target group to whinge about for all their financial woes.

As far as difference between the two parties it's competence and financial management. That's all.

I'm still waiting to hear about these supposed "far left" policies being advocated here. Any progress ?

Nobody here on the right-wing is interested in policy debate .... wouldn't want to expose the fact that Tony Abbott isn't even bothering with the budgie-smugglers in this campaign. Where's Larry Pickering when you need him?

Try reading the article from the Australian that I linked then come and talk to me. Abbott is promising way worse in terms of deficit. Clearly you are lying about your view if you support abbott. Then there are the massive deficits of Fraser/Howard. ANd even 8 deficits from Menzies. Your position is nothing but a joke, based on this statement.

Nuclear Power is by far the safest industry in the work. This is well demonstrated. No one has died from the Fukushima Accident. NO ONE. The fact that you buy such scaremongering says a hell of a lot about your critical assessment abilities.

You ask too much of Pukka. They are nothing but wild random claims without any substance or evidence in support. Don't hold your breath waiting for any reasoning in support of their equine excrement.

I thought Moods ban the reading of the OZ for this thread ;)

Well, it doesn't look good. When the workers rebel - it must be trouble!

I'm sure the people forced from their homes have a different take on things........scaremongering my cough.

You seem to love it - let's build one in your back yard!

Well, I know about them and I'm Gen X - a label applied to me 20 years after I was born. My friends are just about all gen X and they know Red Dwarf. My daughters are, what, Gen Z+? they know Red Dwarf, my sister in law Gen Y. By a process of elimination you don't know red dwarf, so not Gen XYZ. You don't watch current reality rubbish TV. That leaves Baby Boomer. I'm not sure why stating the obvious is a stab in the back. I'm proud of who I am, not sure why you seem to want to hide from your generation.

Read the article I posted. Abbott and Hockey have completely failed to demonstrate and competence or financial management so far. Just provide any evidence at all that demonstrates their financial competence. On the on hand they claim that the australian economy is in a crisis, but on the other hand they promise to throw away money of a financially irresponsible PPL. That is a stark demonstration of their financial incompetence. You even agree. You have acknowledged the financial disgrace that is Abbott's PPL policy.

There is one party that is working to save the economy and restrain spending - The ALP. Then there is the coalition that needs to find savings of $20 billion a year from 2017/18 to fund it's promises and will be throwing money around to the tune of $89 billion a year in the years following the budget projections. Compared to $10 billion and $56 billion, respectively, for the ALP. Clearly by those measures alone the ALP is more competent and responsible.

No worker has died because of radiation.

People are only forced from their homes because of people saying the il-informed rubbish that you're sprouting now. Radiation has killed no one. The radiation levels that forced those people from their homes can not have killed anyone. But plenty of those fukushima people have committed suicide because of being forced from their homes and because of the stigma attached by the ignorant attitude that you are expressing here.

Instead of regurgitating cough that someone has told you to believe, try getting half a clue. It seems that, like politics, critical assessment of scientific matters is beyond you.

Here's a line from your fukushima article:

Water still leaking from the plant is so contaminated that a person standing close to it for an hour would receive five times the annual recommended limit for nuclear workers in a year

Aside from scaring the sheep in those world it is a completely meaningless statement. What Volume of this water? The whole storage tank or 10 litres or 1 litre or 10 ml, or whatever is leaking? What is the concentration? What is the radioactivity? What is the isotope?

Then there is standing close. How close?

Wikipedia tells that a level 3 incident, as claimed in that story, could involve 1 Sv/h, or non-lethal deterministic effects. 1 Sv per hour is 50 times the worker dose limit no 5 times. 5 times the worker dose limit is often stated as a possible threshold for effects from radiation. There are some parts of the world in which background radiation levels are 5 times the worker dose limit. Yet the population living in those areas have a cancer incidence rate that is not significantly different to the rest of the world. 5 times the worker dose limit does not cause non-lethal deterministic effects.

It is completely unquantified. It is good for scaring the sheep of this world but it means absolutely nothing.
