I actually think a lot of Australian's would be happy to have Costello back as Treasurer... Having had to put up with that colossal mediocrity Swan for 6 or so years would make many Australian's look back fondly on Pete...

A large number would also welcome keating back.

No amaroo - you don't get it - people are maintaining that every woman who fall pregnant and is able to access the coalitions proposed paid maternity scheme will all be earning a salary of $150K - hence their "$900<$75000" argument.

But I also agree that the scheme may be a bit too generous so I will cricitize them for that.

I'd back him for the one liners and the laughs - nothing else.

Yes, for his cheek and the odd mildly humorous one lines he used to drop, mainly about how great he was, he was worth a smirk now and then... The debt and budget black hole he left reminds me more of Swannie... But after Swannie I would probably have John Kerin back...

Yes, i think its a bit generous as well, specially in the tough times we are in, so if after the election it got pruned or delayed i could live with it... Not sure why Ruddy is proposing new spending items almost daily as well...

I thought we had all realised that the books have been getting worse on an almost monthly basis this year and we were going to have a mature election campaign where the people understood there was no money in the kitty left for anyting new after the couple of big ticket/big money NDIS and Gonski proposals rightly or wongly seem to have become fait accompli's... It was how to live within our means and which party would get the country back onto a sustaionable basis...

Gee, didn't know every lady of the land is up the duff.

Anyway, as already posted - I'm not a supporter of the scheme.

Yeah, but the problem is that scheme is the only real point of difference. NDIS, school package are the same for both. They're both going to cane the hell out of boat people. They both claim they'll bring in a surplus. The ALP have been trying to cut middle class welfare - PHI, and something else maybe. The ALP caned single mothers. The Coalition has an economic disaster of a parental leave policy that is completely unfunded and actually involves reducing revenue/taxes. WTF!!!

If you don't support that scheme then I fail to see how you can vote for it. Or perhaps your like my grandparents who opposed the GST, but they "just had to vote for the coalition".

BTW every person in the land hasn't got $900 checks either. And $75000=83.3 $900 cheques.

A debt that was mostly Treasurer Howard's debt.

As for the Coalition PPL scheme being a bit generous. It's F'ing excessively generous. Compared to a financially responsible PPL that provides minimum wage for mother's who are mostly going to be at home for the first 6 months and don't need their previous wage to pay for going out and transport to work. It is stupid welfare for people who just do not need it.

Yep - until reform is possible again I think the country may just drift along with a government sector that continues to grow in size and a taxpayer base that gets more narrow as the population ages and number of working people decrease, there will eventually be painful re-adjustement or some serious budget cuts years down the line, with a gun pointed at our heads, like the sort of cuts that Greece, Italy and Spain are having to make now.

The thing about democracy - your grandparents vote is worth the same as yours, mine & everyone else's. I'm very wary of people who want to shove their views down the throats of others!

At the end of the day you've got to vote for the party that you believe will be better overall. Good luck to everyone that can be bothered to vote and fill the thing in correctly.

FWIW I'd say the vast majority (say 98%) would get a lot less than $75K.

Was he the one that got his GOS mixed up with GDP in front of about 100 cameras? Poor sod - got the sack the next day.

My comment wasn't about the value of a vote nor about shoving my views down other people's throats. The point is my grandparents failed to vote according to their assessment of the choice offered. They then whinged when the very thing they didn't want, but voted for, was put in place.

This little story informs my criticism of people who oppose something but just have to vote for it. You have clearly stated your view about abbott's PPL scheme, that is your view not mine. But it seems you still plan to vote for something you oppose. Just like my grandparents

Sorry for shoving your view down your throat.

The minimum is $25000.

Blind allegiance does no one any good. No surprise that it's a hallmark of being a member of the ALP parliamentary team;)

The ALP is a perfect example of how things can go wrong very quickly when you shove views down peoples throats.......Rudd then Gillard then Rudd then wipe out - YMMV

Clearly I'm never going to agree 100% with the party I'm voting for. Does that mean I shouldn't vote?
