There is one party that is working to save the economy and restrain spending - The ALP.

Uhmmm, have we entered the twilight zone, or is this like '1984' or whatever where Big Brother tells you what to believe...

Restrain spending??? The ALP??? Now i have friggin heard it all.....

No we entered the twilight zone when Howard started victimising refugees and joined Bush's false war on terror, on fake evidence...

My boy. Refer to my earlier posts about rocks in head and idiots. You are serious misguided if you think he's my boy.
But you follow the same behaviour yourself.

You know, I don't think anyone here is fully behind either leader. Both have serious flaws. Trying to paint one as perfect and the t'other as t'opposite won't wash.

I have my reservations about TA, but he deserves a go. We gave KR a go in 2007 and that turned out to be a mistake. As Julia Gillard and her senior colleagues acknowledged by their actions in 2010 and their public statements in 2012.

If the people shedding crocodile tears about drowning were really driven by eliminating deaths at sea, they'd be supportive of a plan to setup regular flights to offer asylum seekers safe passage from Indonesia, rather than trying to discourage them through cruelty.
But we do. As I speak there's one in the air.

Why are you even here in this forum if you don't know this?

As for the Coalition PPL scheme being a bit generous. It's F'ing excessively generous. Compared to a financially responsible PPL that provides minimum wage for mother's who are mostly going to be at home for the first 6 months and don't need their previous wage to pay for going out and transport to work. It is stupid welfare for people who just do not need it.
One might say the same about LSL, but wouldn't there be a howl if that were dropped!

The interesting part about TA's PPL scheme will come when the Greens consider it in the Senate, assuming Shorten doesn't support it.

Instead of regurgitating cough that someone has told you to believe, try getting half a clue. It seems that, like politics, critical assessment of scientific matters is beyond you.

Being away from all Aussie media can anyone tell me what the bookies are offering about Rudd serving out his 3 year term as the member for Griffith if he is reelected there in September?

We really need more novelty markets...

No change to the overall odds in the last week or so. Still Coalition 1.14 Labor 7. Not the Queensland-style massacre some were expecting but a Labor win would certainly shock.

You can get on a flight to Australia without a visa then claim asylum when you arrive ? When did that happen ?
You mean it's still illegal?

Thing is, we have a legal refugee intake: In 2011–12, 13 759 visas were granted under Australia’s Humanitarian Program, fully meeting the planning level of 13750.

We fill that intake each year. Those who apply and are accepted may travel to Australia on a commercial flight. Safely and cheaply.

The position of the Greens seems to be that we should accept anyone who wants to come to Australia. If these millions were all to fly here, this would place a severe burden on the international airline industry.

One bright spot would be that millions of airline seats out of Australia would suddenly open up at rock bottom prices as airlines struggled to fill the empty jets flying back.

Quality of life within Australia would rapidly decline as we struggled to cope with the flood, so I guess those outbound seats would gradually become more attractive.

I think the most interesting market is the handicap with Centrebet who go 1.09 TA next PM

Coalition -20.5 seats 1.85. -10.5 is 1.25
ALP. +20.5 seats 1.90 +10.5 is 3.70

So basically no hope for ALP

Try getting on a plane for an international destination without a valid visa. Let us know how you go.

Thing is, we have a legal refugee intake: In 2011–12, 13 759 visas were granted under Australia’s Humanitarian Program, fully meeting the planning level of 13750.
There's no such thing as an "illegal" refugee.

Anyway, I thought your concern was people dying at sea ?

The position of the Greens seems to be that we should accept anyone who wants to come to Australia.
Actually the position of the Greens is that, in line with our treaty obligations, we accept refugees who arrive into Australia and claim asylum.
It is also their position that we increase our humanitarian intake. My understanding is they want to replace other types of immigration with that, rather than increase the overall immigration intake.

I have never seen any policy to accept "everyone".

If these millions were all to fly here, this would place a severe burden on the international airline industry.

Quality of life within Australia would rapidly decline as we struggled to cope with the flood, so I guess those outbound seats would gradually become more attractive.
If it were likely "those millions" would fly here, you might have a point.

Because hasn't letting the flood gates open worked so well everywhere else.... And so we get rid of any skilled migrants program where we can have a chance to encourage migrants who will directly benefit Australia???

As usual its pretty obvious why the majority of the people don't want to let the Greens within a bull's roar of actually running anything important...

Why ? Just because ?

Because while the jury may still be out with TA, as is the case for any new encumbent as to whether they will be able to step up to the top job, he has served a reasonable apprenticeship...

The current muppet and the rabble he had to cobble together after many senior Cabinet Ministers jumped ship on his return has manifestly demonstrated he isn't up to the task, both in the actual job, and then scheming his revenge for 3 years and putting his ambitions above the good governance of the country...

In terms of a leader being found wanting its a possibility compared to the current dead certainty...

The human mind is an amazing thing, isn't it? Able to hold two contradictory opinions, simultaneously. For some people, three or four.

Without popping!
