But the lunatic schemes of the Greens would send us all broke ...... Cutting back on air travel except for senior Party members.

What!!!! No more status runs??? Hanging is too good for them - herd them all into NSW state forests with targets on their backs and let loose the dogs of BoF.

Oh - and posting bad photos of political opponents is about as enlightening as the contents of a 3-day-old nappy. But don't let me stop you stifling real debate with your hilarious posts. You all seem to enjoy it so much.

The neoliberal philosophy followed by Liberals and Labour, along with most parties in other countries since the late '70s, has brought the world to the brink of economic destruction. It's pretty clear it's the mainstream parties who are "economically irresponsible".

Compare the fate of economies since the late '70s for Tasmania vs other states such as Victoria, NSW, Queensland or WA. How would you like to compare their economic performance? Unemployment? Wages? Participation rates? Life expectancy? Education? Dependance on welfare? Size of government?

If you want to point to the greens as responsible government then I point out to you Tasmania as exhibit A.

My biggest problem is that I like some of the Labour policies and some of the Liberal policies. Then there are the policies from both sides that I do not like. Therefore I am still undecided as I think neither deserve my vote.

What I would like to see is one of the mob come out with some proper policies regarding law and order.

Krudd is not popular with the locals after ditcihing a 6 week appointment to jet down to appear on the Project last night, no wonder his seat is now marginal, seems my vote may help after all!
Seems like the robocaller polls aren't quite as accurate as they could be, tending to favour the Libs in Australia and the Republicans in the USA.

I would be extremely surprised if Rudd lost Griffith, though in the inevitable by-election it could tip as the disgusted voters elect to go with the government.

Apart from the active warriors on this thread - it seems very few people give a toss about the election Second debate a fizzer with TV audiences

Yes and no. The decision by the major channels not to show the debate was then a self-fulfilling prophecy that it would rate less. The only way to know for sure would be if the same channels showed both debates ... on the same day of the week ... at the same time. Basically we are comparing apples with strawberries, as half the punters probably don't even have SBS2, 7TWO or ABC24 on their favourites list.

Anyway - the 2nd debate was much more interesting than the first, though no clear winner. More like a 1-1 draw than the first 0-0 fizzer.

The only controversy was when Tony Abbott said "Does this guy ever shut up!" It would be interesting to know the tactics behind that comment (assuming it was not Tony Abbott just being himself).

[BTW - have you found any more disgraceful posts to show us? I haven't got time to look today so if you could be so kind ...]

As Elvis once sang, "A little less conversation, a little more action please"

I'm a funny chap. Whenever I come across a steaming pile of excrement - I never go back and take another sniff;)

Reminds me of the Seinfeld segment. You walk in something brown and squishy. You know what it is. But why is it that we still can't help sniffing it anyway.

LOL! We somehow seem to stumble along.
Yep, absolutely. No problems in the world economy today at all. Nor is it like Australians are drowning in debt and have spent the last decade or two wasting their wealth trading houses with each other rather than doing something productive with it.

Thank goodness the Greens don't have their hands on the levers. We'd all be trashed.
Because...?

But the lunatic schemes of the Greens would send us all broke. We'd be investing billions in solar farms that turn the land ugly and barren. Bumping the tax rates up towards 99% to pay for street art. Replacing the defence force with yogic flyers. Cutting back on air travel except for senior Party members. Freeing the farm animals into the new national parks.
Do you have anything other than comical straw men to contribute ?

How about we compare it to the post-WW2 period up until the late '70s when neoliberalism took over with Thatcherism and Reaganomics ?

You know, back when "zero unemployment" was considered the Government target, rather than the sadistic policy we have now, where some level of unemployment is considered not only "natural" but "desirable". All as a sop to business to keep wages suppressed and profits increasing.

This paper explains it fairly elegantly:

Bit difficult to ignore worldwide events like WW2 and then the Oil crisis/Stagflation of the 1970s

If you want to return to a 'Menzsien Paradise" of protectionism, trade barriers, poor class mobility, not as many women in the workforce, the horror of high airfares etc then knock yourself out driving around in your Morris Minor, but I think it would be a bit difficult to sustain that in the real world we are in now, unless you are advocating some sort of return to protectionism.

Shame how people focus on the small detail, isn't it.

Tony Abbott has created a new industry in Indonesia!

I can just see the scene at Kuta tomorrow: "hey meeester, you want massage? you buy t-shirt? you buy boat from meeee? very cheap".

Someone have Tony's people call Rhonda's people to see if she's available for a quick ad shoot in Bali.
