Wow! All Tony Abbott needed to do was STFU and walk into the lodge without having to announce or justify any policy. Instead he ...

1. Announces a swathe of measures to worsen the deficit without saying how they will be funded, then to distract us from the black-hole in the room he ......
2. Whips out a $75K super-special baby bonus for mums who are too posh to push, and need to pay a nanny and housekeeper whilst recovering from the subsequent PND, then to close that debate down he ...
3. Launches his "Buy a Junk a Minute" plan to close down the people smugglers by making it more profitable to sell the boats than sell seats on the boats

#1 was expected (no Opposition ever closes the gap between promises and reality), #2 was a peculiar choice for the signature policy of a party that denigrates the welfare state, but #3 is surely a pish-take!

It would be like telling the police to go to the drug dealers and buy all the heroi_ so that it can't hit the street. Great if you want to bankrupt the economy, but otherwise pointless.

In just a few weeks these geniuses are going to be running the country, including Barnaby Joyce who going by tonight's performance is now let off the leash without medication.

Complacency has a new entry in the Urban Dictionary.

Kevin13 - the number refers to the expected number of seats - must be breakfasting alone this morning as he reads the Saturday papers. Nobody within kicking or throwing range. Definitely no hot beverages.

The PNG deal is unravelling, according to The Australian.

It will be interesting to see how the "cash-for-clunkers" deal works out in Indonesia. A target of a few easy laughs, I'm beginning to think it's a stroke of genius. We'll have our agents on the ground in the area where the boats are coming from, injecting money into the communities. It's not boats we'll be buying so much as goodwill and information.

And, as Sun Tzu pointed out a very long time ago, "know your enemy" is the key to winning the conflict.

This weekend and next sees the major party launches - a bit like the Ekka, isn't it, where the Show is officially opened nearer the end than the beginning - and it will be interesting to look at the body language as the leaders walk onto the stage. Not their body language, but that of the crowd of party faithful. There will be a few strained postures in the Labor hall as the troops rise for the carefully timed standing ovation, robo-clapping and robo-smiling for the cameras. But inside, they will be spitting chips.

Still, Julia Gillard had worse figures, so unless Rudd goes absolutely berko and starts biting heads off babies, there's an upside. Instead of a wipeout, it will only be a rout.

How about commenting on the other points in his asylum policy instead of just the sugar hits. And look, Rudds 1.5 page PNG breakthrough just broke through.

I could not believe my eyes today seeing Rudder has suspended his campaign for Syrian breifings, I mean why its outrageous this chemical warfare, what can he do about it nix, loves playing the Statesman, he might even get done in his own seat, so what is his thinking. Maybe he dam well knows winning is a lost cause and can blame it on this crises across the globe.

I appreciate that deriding Kevin Rudd is the norm amongst certain people here but attending this briefing is part of his current role.

I reckon that if he didn't attend then your contempt would be the same. Now why didn't Tony Abbott attend? Surely as the next PM he should ensure he is fully briefed on such matters. Sending Julia Bishop along simply isn't good enough.

Because he doesn't run a one man show. I'd prefer to have a team rather than a one man band.

I agree with Limewood - maybe he can see a flight to the UN out of it.

If Rudd pulls out or loses his seat he can save us the cost of a bi-election.
He has cost Australia so much for so little.

He cannot be serious.

He clearly knows nothing about small business

Unions and employers will be given a greater voice in shaping workplace policies under a Labor small business plan to be unveiled today.

The proposal is part of a package of measures the Rudd government claims will improve the operating environment for small businesses.

I'm still reeling over the fact that people are now whining that Kevin Rudd is taking time out from his busy schedule of kissing babies in the boondocks to actually perform some Prime Ministerial duties.

I despair, I really do. Sometimes I think that we deserve what we are likely to get for three years from September.

There's a certain amount of gloom and despondency and a sense of impending doom from the left side of this thread. They've given up. Remember Kev's chant fight, fight, fight its catchy and easy to remember.

You'd think the world was going to end I mean how bad can Tony be....

What has Rudd been punching?

And how can we trust a man who stands in front of a poster of Hitler?

A makeup artist perhaps?

I saw him on Ten's The Project the other night & when they quizzed about the run in he had the previous night & it was apparently just a misunderstanding. I thought he was going to roll out the "I'm sorry, I'm only human" line again.

Sounds like TA declined the invitation to be on the program - not sure if he was asked on the same night or next night but they said he had an open invitation any time.

replacing the current lot - not sure the collective IQ won't go up, probably can't go down.

Reminds me of a quote a former boss used to repeat from time to time about a heckler in the crowd yelling out to former PM Bob Menzies.

Heckler: "Tell us all you know Bob Menzies it won't take long".

Menzies: "I can tell you what we both know & it won't take any longer".

Boom boom. :p

What a cracker it will be if Kruddy does lose his seat...

Remember the crowing after the 07 election about Howard being only the 2nd sitting PM to lose their seat was it... And how Maxine was the darling of the party etc, etc...

Fast forward an election and Ruddy doesn't even see out his first term as PM after being knifed and Maxine loses and all the recriminations about how the party didn't support her... Fast forward another 3 years and Ruddy might become the 3rd PM to lose their seat after the farce of PM swapping in-between, wouldn't that complete the circle... :)

Go Billy. He'll be a great member for our seat of Griffith. At least he's there campaigning. Kevin's been there only once lately at the commersly pub, though our local ABC612 morning announcer( Kevin- lover) will happily tell his audience what a great job Kevin is doing for the electorate and the country!! Love 612 but hate the biased reporting in the morning and unfortunately, come the political ad blackout pre election, he'll still be pushing the Kevin barrow.

That would be karma!!

Lol I'm sounding like a tree hugger I'm off to listen to my favourite whale song cd

I see he had time to zip back to BNE to film Kitchen Cabinet - the bloke is a colossal waste of tax payers resources!

So another day of policy-free debate on AFF? Why am I not surprised .... it is like trying to explain the theory of relativity to football hooligans.

If I wanted to listen to trash-talk for morons I would buy a Murdoch tabloid. Can't you guys do any better than that?
