Does not compute.

If there is a legitimate business reason for the vehicle, there is no change other than some trivial logbook keeping.

I would assume that the Salvation Army cars are driven by numerous people over the 3 months rather than just a single user.In the real world that means keeping a true logbook becomes virtually impossible.I know that is the case at many hospitals that I work at.

In fact the people less affected by log book keeping will be those terrible multi millionaires that this was supposedly directed at.Lesser mortals would not be allowed to drive their cars unless a chauffeur and again no problem with log books.

To save $4million they could install a tracker system like Navman but they need to get the records signed to be in accordance with the FBT rules.
I would prefer the Salvos saved $4 million.

That's absolute BS. Every workplace I've been that had shared cars had a log book. Extremely easy to maintain a log book for pooled cars.

The Liberals will be forming a minority government. Absolutely guaranteed. In case you've forgotten neither the liberals nor the nationals will hold enough seats to form a majority government. Sorry to burst your bubble but Abbott is lying to say otherwise.
Rather a precious view. This is like Germany saying they didn't lose the Second World War. Nor did Japan or Italy.

Why do you feel impelled to hold onto such trivia? Few others do. Certainly most Australians see no inaccuracy in Tony Abbott's statement.

We're drifting away from the target here, perhaps?

Then again, if we accept that so too is Kevin Rudd, then we're kind of on topic.

The Australian is claiming that Abbott has overtaken Rudd as preferred Prime Minister, and that the ALP has sunk to 33% primary support. How can Rudd project confidence when more people like the other guy, and two-thirds of Australians say they prefer a different party?

Sorry if the truth hurts. Precious truthful tony is lying through his teeth in claim he won't form minority government. It goes to the character of the man. The fact that the majority of Australians don't understand how parliament works doesn't make the lie truth.

As for drifting away from the target. Perhaps reflect on your views the next time you wish to make false claims about FBT. Or perhaps you don't worry about the Salvos and their cars.

WTF? I haven't said a word about FBT. You may wish to retarget your slings and arrows.

I'll accept that the Liberals probably won't form a majority government in their own party right, but that was never on the cards anyway. Government is the council of ministers, and any government led by Tony Abbott will contain ministers from the Libs and the Nats.

I just think it's a very precious point, and to make it into "Tony Abbott lying through his teeth" shows a certain desperation.

My point about "most Australians" is this. An effective leader must be able to communicate with those he leads - or seeks to lead. If he - or Kevin Rudd - took pains to be pedantically correct on every point, then they would find the national conversation slipping away from them.

John Hewson and Kim Beazley had problems in this area.

An excellent outline of the problem with Abbott and his supporters. They'll be a disaster for the economy.

Australia, you don't know how good you've got it
Maybe. But, in our representative democracy, we seek the opinions of all. Those whose only address is "under the William Jolly Bridge" get to have their say. We don't have any self-proclaimed elite of lawyers or economists making the decision for us.

In my own life, I don't make critical decisions on money alone. I've been happily married for nearly thirty years - that most important decision was not informed by a sober comparison of bank balances.

In this election, I figure that either side will continue to provide for the national security. I've lived half a century or so under governments of both major sides and leaders of every stripe. Things haven't been too bad for us.

My problem with Kevin Rudd is his character, as demonstrated by his behaviour over the past six years.

The past six weeks shows very little evidence that he has changed his spots. Leave out the Opposition entirely and it's been a disaster for Labor as led by Rudd.

You're <having a lend of me>, right ?

At some point in the future, I'm sure the last few years will be an interesting historical study in media influence. By pretty much any objective measure, the Australian people have prospered over the last five years (and the ten before that), yet they apparently feel hard done by and are prepared to switch Governments, even though for nearly everyone in the middle and upper end of the income range there's barely daylight between the policies of Liberals and Labor, and those at the lower end will almost certainly be worse off under a Coalition Government.

Maybe he should give Tony a quick call and ask ? He's been doing it for what ? Four years now ?
True. But he had the party vote behind him - the Coalition was well ahead of Labor all that time.

You seemed to indicate not having enough to pay your bills was an indicator of being over-taxed.

No I said that once you earn enough money to pay your bills working extra (which is taxed at the top rate) is a disincentive to go to work in my case.

If I needed the money i'd work 7/7 if I had to

Maybe you should look for a job you actually enjoy.

I'm sure. So would most people. It's called survival.

But if you can't survive on $180k+, you're doing something very wrong.
