I wonder how a parliament made up entirely of independents would work...
They would find it impossible to compete with the organised groupings which would spring up. Having a caucus to share the workload and decide on policies, tactics and so on. Ten men, wisely led, will beat a hundred without a head.

Interesting to note that Peter was recently voted in comfortably as Mayor as part of an independent group at the last local elections.

Seems independents have the same dependence issues for feeding from the public tit as the major party players.

Win by-election - lose election - get a job on the public payroll from the Independent that employed you for the previous three years, when he was the state member for the seat you just lost - win council election.

IMO Ted Mack sets the bar for Independents.......pity the current crop can't match it!

In 1981, Mack decided to shift into state politics, and ran as an independent for the recently created New South Wales Legislative Assembly seat of North Shore.[SUP][2][/SUP] He was successful in what would normally have been a safe Liberal seat, and served as a state MP until 1988, when he retired two days before he was due to qualify for his parliamentary pension entitlements, as a statement against the excesses of public political office.

Hasn't even been mentioned in our news. I think the Federal and state situations are very different. People have different issues with the federal govt that have nothing to do with state governments.

Was he the guy that walked out of a building the other day in a bright, bright blue suit to talk about his Chief of Staffs phone conversation etc?? Frankly i thought in that outfit he looked like a bit of a clown???

But yes hadn'theard anything about that till now, have to see how it plays out...

You may want to tell the PM that - she doesn't seem to have got the memo that the ALP actually lost the NSW state election in 2011 - she seems to be running a state election campaign in western Sydney at the moment while still maintaining that the federal government is "governing".

The selection campaign that isn't you mean? I understood that western Sydney were angry that the carbon tax had been implemented when she'd promised she wouldn't. Nothing state related.

The carbon tax broken promise was the "real" julia from the ALP - that was so 2010 - get with the program - now we are in 2013 and its One Nation/Pauline Hanson and pick a fight with the states over anything mode at the moment.

Well big news in Victoria with the Liberal Premier Ted Baillieu just resigning.

In the balance

This could have some interesting impact on the Federal govt.

Seeing the ALP hold 65% of the Victorian seats I think it unlikely to affect the result. To remain PM Julia has to hold on to their NSW seats and win some back in QLD.
At this stage the ALP are likely to lose at least 2 seats in Tasmania-in Bass and Braddon the opinion polls have the Liberals with over 50% of the first preferences.
A good chance that Windsor and Oakeshott will lose to the Coalition as well.

Julia's Rooty Hill experiment looks to be going not so well.........On The Project tonight they showed a film clip of the PM giving a public press conference today. The PM was interrupted mid sentence by a 40'ish YO heavily tattooed woman yelling at her that she should wipe her mouth............"because there's more cough coming out of it than your ar#e".

As they say "A picture tells a thousand stories"!

Why do I find that really funny? :)

I saw that exchange and conjured up an image of her cosying up with Tony Abbott. Somehow it fits.

I also enjoyed one on the first day when some bright spark had a sign-Just remove the L from the hotel to find out what we think.

Sorry sorry. Love the way they are scuttling away from Hansons comments.

YES it does.........and isn't that the beautiful thing about everyone's vote having equal value no matter where you come from!

Yep Peter Slipper is saying he is here for everyone.

It takes a special kind of politician that picks a fight with Billionaires, attempt to create a class war......and end up having the Westies hate you:D

Dead set....talk about a square peg in a round hole!

She must be looking forward to the end.
