Re: Where will you be election day (September 14th)

I did have a good laugh at Lunch. Whilst not going to say which party I prefer, I heard Julia on the radio basically saying (and I paraphrase) 'People didn't vote for Denis Napthine, Victorians should vote for their leader not the party' and 'this won't solve the party problems'.

Wow. Did she forget how she got into power? Or all the Labor Party in-fighting (as well as the Liberals)?

Typical Politician :)

Re: Where will you be election day (September 14th)

I work in same building where Rob Oakeshott has his office.

Earlier I saw Rob Oakeshott sitting on the breakwall behind his office having his photo taken. When I went out for lunch one of his staff was outside carrying a media release and looking at the photos.

He said he would announce in mid March whether he would run again, be interesting given the attacks and the pressure what he does decide.

Whatever he decides, and hopefully in September the people will take the decision out of his hand and retire him for good, i hope they unplug that windbags microphone about 3-5 minutes into his recitation of his personal version of War and Peace...

What a half wit, sawing precisely through the branch she's sitting on...

I guess you have to give her some amount of points for bald faced pot calling the kettle black stuff?!?!?

Or perhaps it was an ironic statement to highlight the stupidity of the federal liberal mantra against her. :?:

hahaha.....no further comment required:)

I thought the link made it obvious

I'm afraid I'm a bit simple so I didn't find it obvious at all, can you spell it out exactly who you think I believe? Because I can tell you I sure as hell dont believe Julia Gillard, and I equally don't believe Tony Abbott, so I am very keen to find out who it is I believe.

As for the other post about Tony Abbotts contempt for the average man on the street. I am an average man and I feel he holds me in contempt and total disregard.

Re: Where will you be election day (September 14th)

Could've been i suppose... Probably have had more credibility if it had come from someone else in her 'team' rather than the person who wielded the knife...

Also sounds like a much more civilised hand over/transfer by the Libs, without any of that tripe about having as much chance of becoming PM as the full forward for the Dogs only a week or so before walking in and doing the deed...

Hope she didn't say it in a way that lends itself to being easily cut into a sound bite for re-use...

I reckon he will run.

Be good to see him & Windsor bat again & really see how their electorate feels about their efforts over the past three years!

Re: Where will you be election day (September 14th)

I'm sure he would struggle to find any other vocation that would satisfy his need to be in the limelight and bloviate to a rapt audience (well what he thinks is a rapt audience anyway)...

But yes, if its looking like a pants down thrashing might be on the cards he might have second thoughts... No doubt accompanied by at least a 30 minute self-justifcatory (is that a word??) monologue... I'm sure the news channels will be ready after that initial self indulgent 15 min or so load of tripe, when he told us all why he chose his bed fellows, to be ready to cut away...

Re: Where will you be election day (September 14th)

So..........just to be clear.........how is the Baillieu departure different from the Rudd departure?
I'll give the similarities:
1. Both had disastrous polls
2. Both had lost the support of key elements of the party
3. Both did not contest the spill.
4. Both had toppled a long-serving government.

The differences?

Re: Where will you be election day (September 14th)

Well the rather obvious one is that a change in Prime Minister effects the whole country, where a change in Premier is somewhat more localised and inconsequential... Meaning the repercussions are also going to be much greater... Living in perth i have no real interest in what is happening in state based politics in Victoria nor have tracked anything leading up to this, and any decisions made by the old or the new Premier have no impact on me, a few Victorians might be grumpy and may have a right to be...

Again i doubt, but could be wrong via afore mentioned lack of interest, did the deputy specifically say they weren't going to be in the job then a short time later did do the deed making it seem rather hypocritical?

I also doubt the almost presidential style campaign of Rudd to personally topple Howard was replicated by Ballieu and so a feeling that many people voted for the person, rather than the Party, even if that is really how it works in Australian politics...

But yes, the mechanics for changing a leader at State or Federal level are largely similar, although the process can be much cleaner or messier depending on how it is carried out and who is seen to be driving it...

.........and how the media report it.

A liberal resigned and went to the cross benches leaving Bailleau leading a minority government.
He wasn't stabbed in the back by his deputy.

More like the majority of sitting members.

It was interesting this morning that Dennis admitted that there were factions in the Liberal party and they played a part in Ted's downfall. The factions aren't as formal in the Labor party but just as effective. I can't see Dennis surviving too long if he's going to tell the truth.

Re: Where will you be election day (September 14th)

I don't think the factions in the Liberal Party are anything like the factions, and attendant incestuous links to union power brokers, that exist in the Labor Party... Sure there have been a few personality clashes over time and Noel Crichton-Browne seemed to wield quite a bit of behind the scenes power back in his days...

While alliances will usually exist in any group or organisation, i have rarely if ever heard any discussion in the Libs about how much damage they do to the party as what Latham and others commenters from within the Labor party have describe the machinations that regularly occur and hold their own party back...

Re: Where will you be election day (September 14th)

So.....as drron so eloquently points out, the only difference is the absence of emotive language and hysteria. Nice.

Re: Where will you be election day (September 14th)

No, if you think every change in leadership that has ever occurred in party politics was as wretchedly handled as was that Gillard-Kruddy fiasco (and the ongoing rancour and bad blood it has generated partially debilitating the Govt ever since) and that the only difference was the way the sensationalist media reported it with some intemperate language, then you have another thing coming, well this Minority Govt has it coming and it will most likely hit it like a freight train...

That whole episode has got to rank as one of the most pathetic episodes in Federal politics for a long, long time... If it had been like Keating rolling Hawke and a strong, somewhat capable Govt was the result with not a sniff of any uhhming and ahhing about a rechallenge, you could probably justify it as a change whereby something better came of it and the means justify the ends, but she has been weak and all over the place ever since... She only hung on by the skin of her teeth from being rolled at the last election and its not looking good for this one...

We'll see what the new Napthine (sp??) Govt does and what Victorian voters think about this switch whenever their next election is...

He jumped before he was 'stabbed'. And it's not a minority government, the Liberal party has a one seat majority.
