Re: Where will you be election day (September 14th)

No, if you think every change in leadership that has ever occurred in party politics was as wretchedly handled as was that Gillard-Kruddy fiasco (and the ongoing rancour and bad blood it has generated partially debilitating the Govt ever since) and that the only difference was the way the sensationalist media reported it with some intemperate language, then you have another thing coming, well this Minority Govt has it coming and it will most likely hit it like a freight train...

That whole episode has got to rank as one of the most pathetic episodes in Federal politics for a long, long time... If it had been like Keating rolling Hawke and a strong, somewhat capable Govt was the result with not a sniff of any uhhming and ahhing about a rechallenge, you could probably justify it as a change whereby something better came of it and the means justify the ends, but she has been weak and all over the place ever since... She only hung on by the skin of her teeth from being rolled at the last election and its not looking good for this one...

We'll see what the new Napthine (sp??) Govt does and what Victorian voters think about this switch whenever their next election is...

Since you rambled a bit, I've attempted to paraphrase your post for the benefit of others:
Julia wins a spill and becomes leader and immediately calls an election; which she then wins.
Napthene wins a spill and becomes leader and immediately does nothing.

Re: Where will you be election day (September 14th)

Paraphrase all you like, and try to reduce complex things to a few trite lines to make different things seem similar, its not going to save Julia Browski... :)

Re: Where will you be election day (September 14th)

He jumped before he was 'stabbed'. And it's not a minority government, the Liberal party has a one seat majority.
But didn't when Mr Shaw moved to the cross benches. He is now an Independent and hasn't said he will support the Liberals. The ALP have 1 seat vacant but are expected to easily win the By election.Hence it is a minority Government and likely that was a major factor in the changes.

Well Browski your spin is delightful. But here in Bundy tonight we have a fellow who gives me a perfect answer.Stephen Curry is in town and as he has said-"tell him he's dreaming".

South Australia currently has a dreadful gang problem with random shootings in cafe's, houses, you name it. We had five in 1 week. Yet apparently Ms Gillard wants to concentrate on other states not SA. So much for state borders.
This shall be known henceforth as the 81/82 Solution. :(

Re: Where will you be election day (September 14th)

Mark Vaille who was the deputy prime minister up until the Rudd labor election did not achieve a lot for this electorate apart from providing funding to the Catholic Church to build, and I don't recall what they called them, but it was a trades skilled high school.

When Vaille resigned Oakeshott who was a popular state member resigned and was elected from memory on in excess of 60% of the popular vote. I agree that he was able to extract money out of a labor government on political terms to sandwall the electorate, that has definitely continued under this term of government.

To this I say good on you, regional areas are often poor cousins to the major cities, we are in the process as the largest regional area on the mid north coast of having a major hospital upgrade, we now have cancer clinics where before patients had to travel to either Newcastle or Sydney,we have a national party state member who wouldn't know which way is up and with the large majority the NSW state government holds, has delivered nothing but the party line.

IMO unless you live here and have seen the gains, it is a bit unfair to criticise a bloke who was thrust into the spotlight.

Re: Where will you be election day (September 14th)

I'm sure he would struggle to find any other vocation that would satisfy his need to be in the limelight and bloviate to a rapt audience (well what he thinks is a rapt audience anyway)...
But yes, if its looking like a pants down thrashing might be on the cards he might have second thoughts... No doubt accompanied by at least a 30 minute self-justifcatory (is that a word??) monologue... I'm sure the news channels will be ready after that initial self indulgent 15 min or so load of tripe, when he told us all why he chose his bed fellows, to be ready to cut away...

No, I couldn't find any evidence that justifcory is a recognised word anywhere from my Apple spell-check-thingy all the way back to my 1959 Edition Funk & Wagnall's, but
  1. I understand what you are saying,
  2. I agree with you, and
  3. "bloviate" is such a great word, so perfectly describing the situation it more than makes up for the non-word.

Gillard forced the spill and called the election about 3 weeks later. ("wins"???)
Napthene has been in the job one day…

As someone who also lives in a regional area - I'm upset that I had to put up with the bloke that hogged the spotlight!

BTW if the member for Lyne is doing it for you - good for you

and, wasn't the one who went into the blokes office to force a spill - after pledging a few hours early that she would never ever do such a thing.

Some people have very short memories!

Re: Where will you be election day (September 14th)

A spotlight put on by the media, not knowing where you are or who represents your electorate from my perspective he has obtained facilities we did not previously have. I don't particularly care about the political rhetoric he or the others carry on with.

Sunshine Coast.

17 mins to express your preference = spotlight hogger.....or someone who knew his electorate was about to have very negative feelings towards him & was doing his best to convince them otherwise.

IMHO both have come to pass!

Re: Where will you be election day (September 14th)

Entitled to your opinion if you talk to him he comes across as an intelligent genuine bloke. My thoughts he was not ready for the attention he got and despite the shock jock rhetoric he still has strong local support

No shock jock issues up here......however, they do play too much Jimmy Barnes & INXS.

Do you really think he will get back in?

No, no, no! He is obviously a devious scumbag because he supported THE WRONG SIDE. You are too easily fooled by the appearance of civility (as if that counts for anything in this ship of fools).

Re: Where will you be election day (September 14th)

I like Jimmy Barnes & INXS but that is another topic.

I don't know the answer to your other question, in NSW via regional stations Ray Hadley who apparently has a wide following has been hammering Oakeshott.

In my opinion look to the results of your local member, not the political bulls#### or opinions of those who do not reside in your electorate.

If the last state election is anything to go by - it's not looking that good for Rob.

Seems independents are perceived to be ok in shorts (Council) but not many like them in long pants (State/Federal) ;)

The wrong side, so is this good vs evil in a non democratic country? Mate this is a great country we can actually vote for who we want, and they can form their own opinions. Don't demonise people who run for & obtain attain office and make those decisions.

I like wearing shorts but only on weekends. It will be interesting we had a state member independent Peter Besseling who was thrown out with the NSW labor government in that landslide. He was replaced by a national member who is not worth talking about, simply party rhetoric. Peter stood for Mayor and was unanimously elected as Mayor in September last year as an independent by popular vote.

So strange things can happen in politics
