Oz Federal Election 2013 - Discussion and Comments

I think it is a sad tale when a Prime Minister's own "supporters" cannot support the Leader, yet they retain power. How is any of this for the good of Australia? What exactly do those oaths they swear actually mean? Nothing. Nothing to do with serving the Australian people, anyway.
Even with this debacle going on Tony Abbott couldn't get a no-confidence motion supported by the independents - simply proves their only reason for being there is self-interest. Australia be damned! What a fiasco.

Because the independents have made their decision to stick with the Prime Minister...to their eventual demise.

Interestingly: "Rob Oakeshott, Tony Windsor and Andrew Wilkie voted with the coalition in their motion of no confidence."

Our parliament is starting to feel like the Italian one. All of a sudden it seems de rigueur to dump the sitting PM whenever things aren't looking good.

My unborn son could run this country better than all of the other parties at the moment. We should start an AFF party. ;D

Not quite true. That motion was for standing orders to be suspended so that a motion of no confidence could be moved. There was no direct motion of confidence today.

It's conceivable that the independents would have supported suspension of standing orders so that they could then support the prime minister in the confidence vote.

I think "things aren't looking good" is a tad understated.

Debacle in Canberra with Julie and the hatchetmen.

But what was equally as cough was Tony abbots live interview with 9 news sydney. That's some of the most cringeworthy TV since Tonys meltdown freeze frame a few years back.

So vote 1. Labour and ineptness.
Or
Vote 1. Liberals and ineptness.

At least people recognise Labor's ineptness.

Too many people still think the sun shines out of Tony when he bends over.

I don't agree. I don't think anyone here is particularly enraptured with Abbott. But they recognise that Labor has failed to deliver in so many areas.

If anything, based on the Labor supporters comments in this thread I'd say most if not all think the sun shines out of Gillard's....well, she doesn't even need to bend over actually.

I don't think so

They are where they are in the polls despite Abbot not because of him

What a surreal & sad day for Australia - I'm guessing there will be more of the same!

BTW Rudd, just proved to be the weakest link, he has always been! How did the ALP get to this disgraceful state? If your name if Shorten, Conroy, Arbib, Howes, Feeney, Farrell, Bitar - hang your heads in collective shame

Absolute tossers!

The weakest link for standing by what he said a year ago and refusing to challenge a sitting Prime Minister?

If he had thrown his hat in the ring, we'd be hearing about how he's another Labor Leader who's "word can not be trusted"....

--

I heard today from a political commentator that the manner in which Gillard called the meeting and declared all positions open meant Rudd could have put his hat into the ring and not gone back on his word.

Any sympathy for the grunts that led the charge? Body count: Rudd supporters quit their posts

Like a gutless General that likes to wear medals - Rudd, decided to leave the field of battle.......loser, is the word!

Julia v Abbott: 1-0
Julia v Rudd: 3-0

Nice. (not expecting any apologies from the media and Libs for beating up the whole leadership dribble for the past 5 years)
As Peter Costello has often mused, "it's all very well to want the leadership, but if you don't have the numbers, then why bother challenging".

Still 6 months til the election for Julia to win it.............especially when people see what she is up against. Happy days:
Peter Overton interviews Tony Abbott on MSN Video

(spoiler warning............this is painful to watch and thank god Peter Overton mercifully cut it short)

Lol dream on

Have you checked out the latest odds on the election, they suggest Julia has no chance and the bookies are very rarely wrong.

Tony Abbot is no Black Caviar but if they lock him up & keep him in a room with no access to phones or any social media they should be ok.

One assumes he has access to the internal polling that perhaps shows a loss of biblical proportions.
Why stand.. nothing to gain in leading a mob of losers to political oblivion.
Later.. well thats different.. he will be able to feed his revenge muscle on all the truths that will appear once the election is over.
I was planning/hoping to have drinkie to celebrate the demise of the worst pm since billym...but decided that the outcome was even better for the Libs.. bring it on.
