Currently in BNE J Lounge and no pancake machine... Will go over to QP soon and have a look as well....

I saw it in the MEL QP 2 weeks ago and for some inexplicable reason, did not sample (pity since we were there for 3 hours - don't you just love Intl to Dom early morning connections). I'll blame jetlag.

Now to get an AM departure to see if in BNE yet...

I saw 2 in the MEL QP yesterday morning, nothing in the J lounge though.

Same this morning (21/7/2011). Had to slum it in the QP lounge to get a pancake and then walk back to the J lounge to eat it. J staff said there should be one in each lounge, so it looks like the kitchen staff that serve both lounges had forgotten about us pancake poor but deserving WPs in the J lounge. ;) ;) ;)

At last, a topic that I know a lot about.

The machines used by AirNz & QF are Popcake Machines - http://popcake.com/

T
hey are an Australian design and licensed for distribution across the world by the Australian company POPCAKE INTERNATIONA .

They have had considerable success in USA (Holiday Inn and Hamptons).

My observations at the airline lounges is that often they are kept out back and used to produce the popcakes in bulk for placing on heat trays. AirNz in Brisbane has theirs out for public use. By looking at the shape of the pancake you can usually tell if it is machine made.

Programming of the machine allows for selection of the pancake size, small medium and large. Can also be programmed for stack size.

I think the RRP of the units is about $5k.

Enjoy!.

I'd have thought a chef in the mornings cooking a batch of them on a hot plate would be cheaper than the $5k for one. I mean, you still need someone in the kitchen refilling the batter anyway.

They all got evicted after failing the Masterchef twenty minute rule!

Yesterday went to BNE QP and the pancake machine was there...

This morning in SYD J Lounge and no pancake machine here either...

To me it looks like the pancake machine is another benefit that WP's don't get unless we go to the QP....

Is the WP status worth it????

At least WP has choice ... 8am, head to the QP nad snaffle some 'cakes - take plate back into the JL and snaffle some eggs etc.

Harder to do in SYD, easy to do in MEL.

I’m not sure I see the logic here, considering you get cooked breakfasts in the J lounge, a pancake machine should be something for those not quite up to that level, or paying for QP access. I can’t imagine you’d call a pancake machine better than the breakfasts you get now? But if so, I’ll happily swap ;)

Pancakes are nice for a change.. what would be good is if they just made them up out the back for us instead! that would be nice!

That’d be a fine differentiator between the two! Maybe you could also get waffles, and scoops of ice cream :p

I shall test for the presence of said Pancakes early next Saturday in BNE and even earlier next Sunday in MEL.

I dearly hope the MEL J lounge has pancakes, they should be a good start to getting over the night before :)

I was there on Thursday morning. Mel QP lounge had 2 machines and J lounge had none. Made a point of going into the QP lounge, making a stack, buttering them and applying a liberal amount Maple syrup. Then brought them back into the J lounge. As I walked past the J lounge guardians, who looked shocked, I asked why the J lounge did not have a pancake machine and the QP lounge had 2. They said there should be one in each lounge.

So you may be lucky and find a pancake machine in the Mel J lounge. If not do what I did.

Enjoy. They are YUMMY :D

Your plan is noted and advice appreciated. Pancaked shall be mine. And I shall eat them in the J lounge one way or the other :)

For those folks with nil lounge access at BNE Domestic terminal, the poor man's alternative is a Hungry Jacks pancake breakfast. :) :)
