Passing of a Monarch

Im re-watching the Kings Speech. Helena Bonham Carter played Queen Mum. She was filming Harry Potter at the same time and could only do Kings Speech on weekends. To switch from one character to another gives me a greater appreciation of her talents.

t's not my thing either, but doesn't worry or upset me if others want to.

I'm not worried and am far from upset, just an observation that the circus is beginning and some of the public will have a morbid fascination with seeing the body, queuing for days to do so, all the while the country is expected to stop. I don't equate that with respect, ymmv.

In many ways it is no different to any other funeral. The body is usually present for a ceremony. There are usually attendees at the ceremony.

This is of a much larger scale, befitting a person that embodied everything that makes Britain, and ‘being British’ what it is.

I think there will only be a handful of people thinking any of this is being ‘forced’ upon them.

The coffin isn't open though is it?

Hope not, give the women some respect in death.

I recall when the Queen Mum was in state the grandsons came in to stand guard one night - wonder if similar will happen for Queen E. Wonder if Andrew will be seen during all of this.

A draft coin design.

Not a flattering picture of Charles, and I'm wondering if he should be facing left.
I thought it was practice that the images changed the direction they faced upon a change of monarch.

E.g. as per this image of King George V on an Australian coin.

Inquiring minds want to know if the Queens Birthday long weekend in WA is going ahead....

Well considering it was never on her birthday, just rename it to something else. Id bet money people value a long weekend more than the purpose for which is was originally set.

In UK they dont have a Queens/Kings Birthday Public holiday. Only Canada, NZ and Australia do (and on all different days) because we love a public holiday. Just rebrand it WA day, NSW day, Qld day etc.

There is a new coin set issued every year often with different designs. The cost of changing designs is already planned and a normal cost of business. Indeed some people specifically purchase different designs, so there is a potential increase in coin sales and resultant revenue.

As QE2 was 96yrs old, Im sure the mint had been accruing change of currency in their budget over the last few years ;)
