Passing of a Monarch

I do hope Her Majesty didn't catch something nasty off Boris Johnson the other day..... It's all quite a surprise because she looked quite chipper in the photos from Tuesday. I'd thought she looked set to reach a century. Wrong 😢

I was wondering about any covid overhang, and yes I did think about Boris Johnson who I am sure baths once a week whether he needs it or not.

She has missed multiple engagements over the last year, her passing was far from sudden.

Sorry but I’m being driven insane with this incessant forelock tugging of continuous coverage on all ABC channels and radio. YMMV.

I refuse to turn on commerical tv or radio until this passes, you know there wont be coverage of anything else for a while.

shame on her, hey

Nope just a fact that she has been unwell for sometime, also depressed since the passing of Phillip and that at her age its hardly a shock that she might pass.

This thread is specifically for discussion relating to the death of Queen Elizabeth II and subsequent ascension of King Charles III. Discussion concerning republic vs monarchy will be considered political and treated as such. Circular arguments that continue to be promoted will also be moderated.

Treat those who choose to post with the respect that is expected of all members.

As my mother would say, "If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all".

Reminder
Several posts have been redacted / removed

This thread is not for discussion of religion, politics etc.

Please stick to the topic.

The world is morning

Actually, that’s when the earth revolves and the sun appears in the sky after a period of darkness. It will tomorrow. I believe you mean mourning, but I seriously ask why.
Apple iPad auto correct, does not change the reality that contrary to some AFF members opinion the whole world is mourning. Maybe you don’t understand why, maybe that isn’t on those who do, maybe it is one of those times where you can just scroll past, unless your religion doesn’t allow you to (I can respect this)

I guess I ask why people who are clearly over the media discussion, which I agree is somewhat overwhelming but hey, The Queen was all we've known, also want to look at this thread. 🤷‍♀️ Whatever, I'm sad for a multitude of reasons which are likely personal and otherwise. Maybe just don't come into this thread if all the attention bothers you. That's why the Mods created a seperate thread. I'm a Republican and have been for years but I respect the person she was and her dedication to her country until the two days before she died. But if what I'm seeing as Republican attitudes is typical then that isn't for me eother. (See how iPad changed either there? I didn't spell it like that the first time 😉). Oh. I've just realised separate is spelt wrongly too. 🤭)

If anyone doubts the significance and global reach of the event, this from Vladimir Putin to KCIII

“For many decades, Elizabeth II rightfully enjoyed the love and respect of her subjects, as well as authority on the world stage. I wish you courage and perseverance in the face of this heavy, irreparable loss"

What other event/person do you (reader) think would elicit that sort of comment from Putin? Not to mention Xi Jinping:

Xi Jinping, representing the Chinese government and the Chinese people, as well as in his own name, expresses deep condolences,” a statement said. “Her passing is a great loss to the British people.

I suspect we were hoping she’d hold out for at least 4 more years for the telegram from the Queen…☹️
Maybe Queen Camilla?

Yes, I guess that Charles will do it.

Edit: Oh, sorry, I thought that you were referring to your 100th Birthday letter. Having just re-read the post, I get it. 🤪

Was just wondering the same thing, people not wanting to be involved in the topic and not interested in the Royals come to spend time at this thread. Plenty of of other TV and social media to view and scroll past this this.

I have two Royal memories, meeting the Queen and Duke when they came to declare Bankstown in Sydney a City in it's own right as a primary school kid from the district, they then rode a Sydney silver double deck suburban train to Martin Place via Sydenham for another function. (only mod to the train was fabric covered seats not vinyl and carpet on the floor, for the record she rode upstairs perhaps looking into the back gardens)

And Diana & Charles who arrived by launch at the opera house steps and went through the city in a open top Rolls to St Andrews Cathedral, I was a secondary school student then at St Andrews Cathedral. I'm not sure if the launch came from somewhere like Admiralty House or Britannia was here.

There is talk of one last train ride for he into London.

I'm sure many people have a story to share.

The whole world is not mourning. Many are respectful of the service of the woman, but many are thinking of, and reflecting on and thinking of, alternatives and forms of irrelevance of the concept of an inheritance of monarchy in the 21C. YMMV.

As a cub or scout in the 1960's our troop along with many others from around Sydney went to the Sydney Showground to do an exhibition tent erecting in the arena whilst the Queen and Prince Philip drove around the tents in the arena to inspect our handywork. They were standing in an open Landrover.
Then in 1977 whilst I was in NE England we lined up in the street whilst HM drove past in the official vehicle as part of her Silver Jubilee tour of UK. I guess she was 2-3m away, just there in front of me. The following week Mahammad Ali also came to Sth Shields to have his Islamic marriage solemnised in the mosque in Laygate. I friend had a shop in the main street and we locked the shop, climbed out the upstairs window and stood on the awning. Ali was standing in the front of an open topped double decker bus and as it went past we could almost reach out and touch him. He was a big man.
