Re: PayPal Australia now [NOT] accepting AmEx [Again!]

(Received last week)

Dear #####,

I have read and understood from your email that you are inquiring about
adding your AMex card on your PayPal account. I do apologize for any
confusion it has caused you.

We value what you have to say and to meet the needs of our customer on
our best effort we try to introduce Amex card in PayPal Australia,
apparently what happen is there are some technical difficulties of
adding the American Express card on the PayPal system.

Unfortunately, as much as we would love to Amex card can no longer be
added on our system. We are doing some updates on our system and
hopefully this would be available soon again on PayPal Australia.

Thank you for your patience and understanding on this matter.

Sincerely,
Maureen

Re: PayPal Australia now [NOT] accepting AmEx [Again!]

Does anyone know, when u use paypal and make payment with credit card, does the
seller see all your credit card details? Thanks

No, the idea behind the service is that they handle taking the money from you and depositing it to the seller, so the seller can’t get to your data and abuse it.

No, they do not. Only PayPal has that information. PayPal charges your credit card and the deposits the finds into the seller's PayPal account. PayPal pays the merchant fee, but of course they also charge the seller a service fee which more than covers the merchant fees.

Re: PayPal Australia now [NOT] accepting AmEx [Again!]

On a whim, I thought I'd check to see whether Paypal was accepting Amex, and saw this in the T&C changes that take affect on Nov 2nd:

Amendment to Product Disclosure Statement

  1. In the second bullet point of section 4 “The PayPal Service”, the following paragraph is deleted:
    “Send Payments. You may make payments using any credit balance in your PayPal Account or using funds from your Australian bank account ("Nominated Bank Account") or Visa, Mastercard or American Express debit or credit card ("Nominated Card Account") that you designate and register with PayPal (note that some funding restrictions may apply, for example, where American Express does not permit a travel merchant to accept a partially funded or fully funded payment from your American Express credit card)”
    and replaced with:
    “Send Payments. You may make payments using:

    1. any credit balance in your PayPal Account;
    2. funds from the bank account you hold with a financial institution in Australia;
    3. a card designated by MasterCard or Visa as a MasterCard or a Visa card;
    4. an American Express card (for certain existing PayPal customers) or card of another payment processor as may be accepted by us from time to time that register with PayPal (note that some funding restrictions may apply, for example, where American Express does not permit a travel merchant to accept a partially funded or fully funded payment from your American Express credit card).

      PayPal reserves the right in its discretion to refuse any bank account or card.”

However, sadly, I am still unable to register my Amex card with them. The comments seem very vague, as to who exactly gets to add Amex and who doesn't.

Re: PayPal Australia now [NOT] accepting AmEx [Again!]

That is a confusing sentence regards Amex acceptance!

Sounds like it's a step backwards to me!

Re: PayPal Australia now [NOT] accepting AmEx [Again!]

My UK Paypal account still happily handles my Amex - the downside is that the account is not "verified" to my Australian address, and this can cause issues with some sellers on Ebay (they seek confirmed or verified Paypal users for anti-fraud reasons)

My AU Paypal account can't accept my Amex - but my Australian address is verified with that account.

Hey Mal, when you say US/UK account, do you mean a separate Paypal account with different login / e-mail than your AU account? Or is there some way of having multiple currency accounts with the same username?

I have a USD, GBP and AUD currency balance in my account ; not sure if this is the same as what Mal is referring to though.

Re: PayPal Australia now [NOT] accepting AmEx [Again!]

My Amex card, which has been registered with PayPal for quite some time and successfully used regularly, expires at the end of this month. So a new card will be arriving in the post shortly. This means I have to update PayPal with new expiry date etc. I am expecting this may not be quite as simple as just updating an expiry date field and may require removing the old card and then not being able to register the new one :(.

I'm talking about a separate UK account, with a different email address. Basically the primary address of the account is my ex-UK address, and it accepts my AU Amex cards. I have an additional address in the account which is my Australian address. When I buy something from ebay for example, I use that account and have the delivery address as my AU address.

NM I've had my Amex linked successfully and it expired a couple of months ago, no probs updating the expiry date. If you had a new card number may be a different story

Thanks. Hopefully will be ok then. Its changing from a Rewards Maximiser card to a Platinum Credit Card (since they discontinued the Maximiser card earlier in the year). So the card is changing colour, but hopefully retaining the existing number.

I can confirm that it's not possible to change the card number. Mine changed after a dodgy transaction, and then it was no more Amex on Paypal for me.

Re: PayPal Australia now [NOT] accepting AmEx [Again!]

Ebay and Paypal STILL not accepting Amex :evil:

Be sure to let them know via their feedback site that you won't use paypal until they accept amex :)

Re: PayPal Australia now [NOT] accepting AmEx [Again!]

Has anyone had any recent updates on this topic?

I've had to close my UK Paypal account (RIP!), due to the expiry/replacement of my Amex. My new card couldn't be registered under my old UK address - looks like they've tightened up the cross-checking.

I notice the AU Paypal site will only accept Visa/Mastercard and Discover. (Discover ????? Who uses that in Australia!).

Re: PayPal Australia now [NOT] accepting AmEx [Again!]

thx.

Have reported them again to Amex... (Not that it means anything)
