I arrived in my Perth office today to find a QF gift waiting for me. To celebrate the return of Perth Singapore flights and seasonal direct flights to Auckland 'we're pleased to present you with this bespoke collection of books written by Australia's best contemporary writers.' Each book is timed to match the flight time of a route and the books vary from a collection of 1 hour 35 stories matched to Sydney-Canberra to a 23hr 20m Melbourne London trip. There are ten books in total. I am pleased to say that the selection is excellent and I'm going to test out the timings on upcoming flights. Well done QF on a well thought out and appreciated gift.

Also presented to the peeps who got a place at the QF AFF lunch in about April/May last year.

Also got the set of 10 books today. They look rather nice - my first ever gift from QF.

And of course there had to be a downside to this ...
With the return of PER-SIN flights the options for flights to other Asian destinations from PER just got worse.
Looking for say PER-BKK return used to return flights through SYD or MEL on QF metal.
Now it just returns flights to SIN connecting to JQ/3K etc rubbish onwards.
Even if you search for seats in J it still returns the Jetstar rubbish with the dreaded "i" - your sector will be in economy.
Searching by multi city or through 3rd party sites can still find the fares via SYD or MEL but they are now MUCH more expensive.

I really wish there was an option to exclude Jetstar flights from the results of searches on the QF website.
But I know JQ is Alan's favourite child so there is no chance of that happening.

You could try ringing the call centre and asking for routing via MEL or SYD whilst waiving the assistance fee. No idea if that would work, though.

Some fares show on some days, but they're twice as expensive as they used to be, and twice as expensive as the option via SIN connecting with Jetstar.
I don't know why QF can't understand that some of us like them because they're a full service airline and Jetstar just isn't an alternative.

I found it quite surprising that 3K flights started appearing as QF connections from SIN awhile back after many years of them being treated as non-existent (I would have flown them on one itinerary many times prior if they'd offered it) - they must be really struggling and need all the through traffic from big brother they can get.

What is really annoying is they show up as QF marketed flights on third party sites as well. Even if you search for business fares.

If I deselect all airlines except QF I shouldn't see JQ.
If I select business class only I shouldn't see sectors on one class JQ aircraft.

Qantas loyalty were stunned when we told them Qantas frequent flyers with status are not interested in flying Jetstar. They simply think that we should be rushing to book Jetstar when there is no alternative Qantas flight.

Yes it's obvious that they think if they decide to give a route to JQ then we will sheepishly follow.
If there are no QF flights I look for OW flights.
If I can't find any I look at VA partners.
Never even consider Jetstar.

Im a qff platinum. I fly JQ fairly regularly. Im obviously a complete psychopath and the only Qantas platinum to do it.

I fly on Jetstar quite often too, but then I'm based in SIN, so there were never any regional QF flights to start with.
