Perth Qantas lounge

Concluding.............. I won't ride up those escalators, I will just sit near the Boarding Gate. It will be more quiet, less crowded and I will have had two pieces of bread and Vegemite before I left home.
EH

Just grab the vegemite and bread from the lounge and walk out with it.. :p

To try and get back to a more centralised argument, so what's the general consensus on how to improve the lounge?

Obviously, the class system, viz. trying to separate the patrons into "appropriate" groups - dare I brashly suggest, "suits", "bogans", "hi-viz" etc. - we know this will not and does not work, and all it will do is breed resentment and promote discrimination and persecution.

Moving on... people have also said that having a J Lounge is not necessarily going to work because you will still have a lopsided distribution between QP and J Lounge (weighted on the latter) due to the unusual distribution of status.

The other ideas were:
  • Bigger lounge. Always under the "du'h" column...
  • Separate lounge spaces for different sets of destinations, e.g. one section of the lounge for WA domestic, the other section of the lounge for outside-of-WA travel

I suppose the latter will also be lopsided on different times of the day / week (e.g. at the ends of the weeks, the "WA domestic" lounge would probably be deserted).

It seems there is no effective solution for creating the ideal lounge for PER, except... make it bigger, and bigger, and bigger, and bigger...................

... and naturally we can't do much about controlling the language used in the lounge.

Not sure where the (additional) resentment would come from? I already resent being in the vicinity of loud, swearing, drunks.

The solution (which is what we're getting anyway) is to make one of the lounges more like a pub - clusters of chairs for 'conversation', sportsball on the televisor and a trough full of party pies. Make the other lounge more of a business centre - single or two chair tables, more PC stations, less or no televisions other than for boarding information and sky news. We could even go crazy and play some classical music.

The punters will sort themselves out as to which environment they're more comfortable in, and anyone in the business-style lounge who is disturbing others can be reminded that this is a 'quiet zone' and be asked to shuffle off to the other one.

Funnily enough, I actually see this as the easiest part. Put a couple of actual bouncers in and have them turf anyone too drunk or rowdy. It works in hundreds of other pubs all over this country.

Including coughs in suits that think we all need to hear their phone conversations? :)

...About the 'multi-million dollar deal" they have done/are doing /will do.. &/or how important they are.. that everyone in their immediate vicinity must hear about.

Deja vu :evil::evil:

I've been in the PER lounge 5 times in the last 12 months at various times. 4 visits were bedlam, one particularly so (so much so, I left). My most recent visit, at about 4 pm, was quite ok.

The last time I was seriously disturbed in QP PER was a fluro decided to sit opposite me and yell into his phone until I decided to get up and leave.

It doesn't matter if you're in Fluro or Suit. If you're a DYKWIA, you're a DYKWIA.

0530: Sitting in here (been in for 30 min) and nothing but hushed conversation throughout (just walked from Food to the Macs), would say 50% full. Mostly Hi-Viz types (incl Moi) as the Sydney flight has just left. No vulgarity at all. Some very casual "Smart Casual" but no rudeness displayed.

I was in there this morning as well (on the sydney flight) and, as usual, couldn't see what the fuss is about. All looked fine and well behaved.

Here's a photo of the new downstairs extension, taken through the glass door on Sunday evening.
Open Mon-Fri 0600 to 2200 (I think - memory's a bit vague about the closing time).

I wish it was just a Business Lounge downstairs! Would be nice for Qantas to have set it up like that.

Where do you enter? From the top or is their a seperate entry downstairs?

Totally agree about the business lounge in PER, but can see the problem though, the amount of FIFO workers that are WP, would porbably over crowd that lounge anyways.

Entry is downstairs, near the bottom of the stairs down from the main lounge.

Is this the lounge that was being used as an overflow lounge during the construction of the current lounge? How many people does it hold and is the food and drinks the same?

No updates here. Has the situation in Perth improved
I've used this lounge frequently over the last few months almost always from 6am on a wed or fri and have never had any issues. In fact its quieter and less busy than the BNE J lounge by far at least when I have been there! I was once in there at 11pm and again it was rather quiet ish..

A good tip is to use the downstairs lounge as it has everything upstairs but is way less busy and there is hardly ever a q for the barista :) Entry is either down the escalator once in the lounge, them turn left or via the glass doors next to gate 14 (I think??).

I would love a j lounge in PER, purely for the slightly better quality F&B.

This is the most sensible suggestion I've seen, just move to the most suitable zone, kind of like the new SIN lounge but crossed with a sports bar. I think it would be extremely popular with us punters!!!
