Platinum "anytime" lounge Access ceases from 1 February 2011

Are you saying I should take one for the team if I am refused entry on the day even though the terms and conditions say I am allowed entry? ;)

If you are using ATA (and not flying on the day), then they could refuse you entry. Not saying they will, but they may sometimes do so, while at other times they will let people in (e.g. in quiet times).

Unfortunately, I think 3.2 is irrelevant. It relates to changes in the QFF T&C. Lounge access is granted under the QC program for which platinum QFF members are given free membership. Changing the QC T&C does not change the QFF T&C hence 3.2 is not active.

I hope that makes some sense as I barely understand it myself.

I thought the same initially. But then I thought that as one receives complimentary Qantas Club membership as Qantas Frequent Flyer Platinum (obviously, a carry-on from Gold), then the two might be linked. You may well be right, though.

I was not referring to Anytime access without flying.

I am flying QF PER-SIN arriving ~17:15 and then flying TG SIN-BKK departing ~21:15. I believe I should have arrival lounge access but the terms and conditions state that it is for domestic only while the change page posted by markis10 mentions that Platinum need to be travelling on QF flight anytime that day.

I'm pretty sure I thought the same thing, and might have expressed it earlier in the thread. But I re-read the T&C today prompted by lurking around FT and reading some of their thread on ATA (where I reckon you mentioned 3.2 as well). Anyway, I realised that the 6 month clause is related to reduced benefits in the QFF T&C. As they are still providing free QC membership....

Anyway, it'd be an interesting point to test with Qantas, if one had legal resources. A win would then mean the return of ATA for another six months.

They certainly didn't tell the J lounge MEL dragons this morning. Walking in I got "Thank you, welcome sir!" when presenting my WP card. At the QP entry I was just waved through with a smile and 'thank you'.

I guess they figure (as someone mentioned) that people aren't likely to be using any time access at 6:45am!

Makes you wonder how much they are actually going to enforce it!

Just one thing that we seem to be forgetting, the MEL J lounge doesn't need to enforce it. You have to enter the QP first before getting to the J lounge. Therefore the QC bouncer can check flights and then all the J lounge needs to do is check that you are flying J or a Plat, if the first check is doing it's job they already know you're flying.

Of course, that doesn't explain why I just got into the SYD J lounge with a flash of the card.

Considering there are reports of its enforcement I would say thats being unrealistic.
There are also reports that it is not being enforced. Perhaps I will continue to be optimistic.

You know the saying....

One would hope that it is not enforced at all but that is probably being too optimistic....

Some anecdotes that it is being enforced at some international ports. I will keep my peepers open for WP tags in Priority Pass lounges!

Lounge attendants exercising common sense by letting Platinums in regardless of travel?

And BNE let me in happily this morning as well (admittedly in both MEL and BNE I was entitled access, but that's moot).

Showed card, was waived thru the J lounge entrance, and the J lounge dragon was on the phone. At MEL the QP dragon seemed interested in interrogating boarding passes, but WP cards were waved thru (And it wasn't that busy either so wasn't a 'congestion' factor).

The BNE J lounge was heaving as usual around 10am. Good to see the de-crowding with the recent 'enhancement's ;)

What PP lounges, they are soon to have none in Australia.

In a totally unrelated matter ..

Qantas International slowly dying: Qantas CEO Alan Joyce - Flights | hotels | frequent flyer | business class - Australian Business Traveller

One does not grow a loyal customer base by reducing benefits, Qantas.

Loyalty means nothing unless those loyal people are bringing in profits. Which seems to be a factor that most people here are missing. When airline prices were higher, it's easier to fund benefits for loyal flyers. When there is perpetual pricing pressure from airlines with cheaper cost-bases, then benefits for passengers that fly a lot but don't generate profits goes away. There is nothing mysterious about this.

Well said trippin_the_rift.

When will QF realise that is not all about brand but loyalty too. Good will is far more valuable that a brand. It's also harder to earn and easier to lose.

Stop eroding our FF benefits QF!
