Platinum Card, what will I get for $900

Actually to their credit they have in the past. They rang me at the end of last year and gave me 10,000 MR points (a few people got this).

They do offer some items from their reward catalogue cheaper if you have been a long time member.

I am debating whether to try the same again next year, or see if they offer me something else instead? Last time I went to cancel after a series of stuff ups, they gave me $1000 in vouchers to use at SPG. I also got given another 30k points when they couldn't extend the vouchers past the date (I still used them anyway!).

I'll see if I can extract some "extras". I just got my fees discounted by $450 and I have been a (gold) cardholder since 1989 and platinum for past two years. When I last spoke with them a month or so ago, there was a faint suggestion if I had considered the Centurion. I played ignorant, not wanting to pay the exorbitant fee.

So, just to get this straight, I can pay $900 and get this card with a bonus 75K points, transfer these points to my QF account and have complimentary travel insurance domestically and internationally?

This seems too good to be true, as with availability of some certain rewards flights (dom and int) I wish to go on mid next year it works out to 130K points for any seat awards or ~$1900 for a near identical schedule...

Is this fair or am I completely missing something? :)

Don't forget the Priority Pass card and complimentry SPG gold and PC gold too!!

wow, that is quite incredible value - although SPG and PC benefits aren't something I'd go out of my way for. The incentive is there!

Not sure if I fully understand what you are telling us.

Is it;

a) you can/did get your annual renewal fee reduced to $450
b) as part of this process you were also able to get additional benefits? eg
i) additional points as an inducement? 75k??
ii) Complimentary Priority Pass Card membership - part of the Plat card deal anyway?
iii) PC Gold - is this also part of the Plat card deal as well

You won't get a discount the first year... but yes to the rest they come with the card..

It's a pity that the Priority Pass is not accepted at Sydney International Terminal. It can only be used at The Lounge in T2 when flying Virgin Blue. How's that a privilege for a Sydneysider Platinum card holder?

Yes and No...cannot be used at the international terminal but Virgin Blue lounge at T2 can be used without having to travel with Virgin or at all.

I must be missing something here.

RE the 75,000 points, isn't this only on offer for new applications for Platinum Cards and closes in March 2011??

I thought you said you had an existing Platinum Card, argued the renewal fee, got it reduced to $450 and got the 75,000 points as well as the other stuff?

Appreciate your clarification here...

Hi Paul,

Yes i have an existing card, and I complained about the cost, afterwhich I had it reduced to $450. I didn't asked about the 75,000 points. My point was you probably won't get the card for $450 and 75,000 as a new member.

with the card you get the following as standard:

Travel insurance (which is very good by all accounts)
Complimentry Priority Pass (lounge access worldwide)
Priority Club Gold upgrade (for ICH hotels)
SPG Gold upgrade

Can I clarify a few things that I'm confused about?

1. Am I eligible for the 75000 point bonus with a new platinum charge card application, despite already holding a platinum reserve card?

2. I've found both the $450 bluemoon offer and the $900 75000 point bonus offer - I doubt there's a way of getting both. (or even applying through my professional organisation for $700). Any thoughts?

3. I can't find a link to the conditions of the Ascent Premium program. Can I transfer my existing 400000 points to Qantas once I'm a Platinum Charge member?

Thanks in advance!

What did Amex say when you called them to inquire?

Do you get free points when applying through your professional body for $700 annual fee?

I have an ANZ/AMEX Platinum card, can I pay the $900 (or less) and get the 75,000 points, how long after do I need to keep the new card?.

Limewood, the ANZ Amex card is a Bank issued Amex card, but the offer is for the American Express issued Amex card, so you will qualify as a "new" American Express Platinum Card member! Great points!

The same answer applies to PKSW, re the move from Platinum Reserve (a credit product) to Platinum, but you will need to choose which of the offers you want....Blue Moon or the 75K points.

I ment to say I don't need another card as current one is Ok for me, but at $900 for 75,000 points sounds OK to me.

I don't fly much nowa days, couple interstate and two overseas a year (one of latter on points) majority of points gained on goods spending (about $10K month), therefore as one would know, 75K points is handy as I'd need to spend $50K to get that amount.

How long do you think I need to keep this new Amex card for?.
