I was told that told too. Just activated my card. Delivered 8 days after application. (Quite impressed with that.)

You mean the Charge Card was delivered 8 days after your initial application??

I applied for mine last week and I was expecting 3 weeks processing time... BTW in the (online) application there was no mention of additional cardholders... do I need to wait for their reply / card in the mail to ask for additional cardholders or shall I call them first?

I've applied on 11/11, decided to give them a call yesterday to see where things are at. The numpty reckons he will need to get my employment history checked (even though I've got another Amex card with a fair bit of history and spending) so I check again today, another CSR says nope you're approved on the spot. He said my card will be made and sent out tomorrow

I am kinda surprised that if I wanted the Platinum Reserve card I'll need to apply for that separately even though it's a companion card :!:

Yep, sure was. I applied on Sunday 7th November and the card was delivered on the 15th November. Pretty happy with that given all I had read previously.

I have been an Amex charge card holder in some form since 1996.

I'm interested in applying for this card but was wondering how strict they are with with their approval criteria.

Has anyone met all the approval criteria but still not be approved? E.g. for reasons like having too high a credit limit on existing credit cards?

I've had my Amex card for several years now, I wonder if this history will carry over under "member since" if I apply for this Platinum charge card?

 I recently applied a platinum supplement card for my wife to my
platinum charge card. Fill in the form and etc, and signed and so forth...
now they said need a verified copy of her driver licence or passport or
proof of age and address :?: and than they need like 5-7 business day
to verify or to see if they are approved and than another 7-14 days to
send it out via mail.

does anyone know why they are so strict and etc? basically i'm the one paying
the bill in the end. Wonder if anyone got the same problem?

- Both the primary and the supplementary holder(s) are joinly liable on the charge card account. e.g. they can and will go after your wife if you don't pay your bill, so will need to verify the identity and credit history etc.

- The other issue could be the financial reform since last year, so perhaps they are the criteria has been changed.

.

Did not realise that.

I have just applied for my charge card and was going get my daughter (at Uni with no real income) her a free sup so that she is covered by the travel insurance when travelling independently of me.

Would this mean that Amex may not issue her with a free sup Charge Card?

She already has a free Sup Plat CC off my Amex CC.

Thanks for the info and insight Diesel :D

The ID: identifies the person's existance. e.g. no fake name etc
So they can chase up the sup card if necessary. nothing more than that.

The income level is not assessed on the supp, this condition is put in place to minimise Amex's risk exposure.

In any event, I don't see a reason why Amex would decline your daughter's application.

PS: A friend of mine could not get a supp amex because he had bad credit. However I am uncertain how amex found that out.

I would say limited credit history and no previous card with AMEX?

I have got several of my additional cards off my centurion account (previously a Platinum CC) who are uni students with no income. I don't think you should have a problem.

Thanks GBK and Diesel. That eases my mid. I was worried fora bit. Getting the free TI for her is certainly part of the value for me...worth say $100-200.

I have just applied last Friday, and will apply for the Supps as soon as I receive the Charge card.

Every financial institution must identify all customers whatever their capacity (ie supplementary cardholder, trustee, company director etc) for the purposes of complying with anti money laundering and counter-terrorism financing legislation.

You don't normally need to prove anything for supplementaries as the primary card holder is almost always liable. Not sure about charge cards, however this is certainly the case for most credit cards.

The terms and conditions will set this out in more detail re who is liable.

Diesallife - FYI every financial institution has access to data about any default listings etc (ie indicators of severely overdue bills) on your credit file. This would be the basis on which they declined your friend's application.

I know about the credit information on the credit file. To clarify my previous post, AMEX did not do a credit check (No hard enquiry) on the supplementary charge card applicant but nonetheless, declined his application due to bad credit.

I applied on last Thursday or Friday, and the Platinum Charge Card was delivered to me today. No phone call, no email notification, no other snail mail asking for more detail financial status, no checking with my employer. They just seem to happily give the card to who wants it. Actually I was just about to give them a phone call to check the progress lol.

I do have an ANZ AE Platinum CC though. Not sure if that helped.

Now I just have to spend $500 on the card to get my 75k bonus points...

I currently have an AMEX Plat Credit Card with quite a few membership reward pts. If I sign up for the Plat charge card, what happens to my existing Credit Card and current MR pts? Will the MR pts roll over into the Ascent Premium program with the charge card, meaning I can now TF them to QF??

Your current card becomes a 'free' card though you will probably need to prompt them to waive the fee. You would need to ask them re the points.

I applied on-line late on Friday, and it was delivered on the following Friday.

I was an existing Plat Amex CC holder.

Now just have to apply for the free Charge sup Cards so that my daughter is covered with travel insurance when travelling independently.

All the forms for this plus the lounge club etc were contained in the fat Plat Charge Card book that came with it.
