I'm still thinking about this card and I finally found the T & Cs for the insurance. Here it is for reference:
https://www.iplatinum.americanexpress.com/prospect/australia/DOServlet?name=TandCs

I applied on-line late on Friday, and it was delivered on the following Friday.

I was an existing Plat Amex CC holder.
What happens to your existing MR pts? Does it roll over to your new Premium Ascent account?

Now just have to apply for the free Charge sup Cards so that my daughter is covered with travel insurance when travelling independently.
I assume she is 18 and over? apparently you can only apply for a suppl. card for persons 18 and over.

Will the Overseas Medical Insurance cover me indefinitely while I am overseas as long as I remain a member? In other words, if I go overseas for longer than 30, 60 or 90 days will I be covered or will I have to return to Australia and go overseas again as another trip?

From my experience (From Plat credit (the old one) -> plat charge), all my existing points rolled over to Accent Premium.

The platinum charge card will only cover you in a "trip" or "journey". The definition is in the booklet, last time I checked was 180 days.

So you have to return to Australia and travel again...

If I recall correctly when I read the T&C previously, it's 180 days coughulatively. Returning to Australia does not reset the count. Seems logical I guess as you wouldn't call someone who spends more than half of his time overseas a traveller. Maybe someone can confirm or correct this?

Hmm well I i have clocked well over 120 days away from "home" this year - with more to come.. I know some people travel way more than that too..

Good question.
I only did my first tx this morning (Sunday) and so the points are yet to hit my account. Should show up Monday afternoon...

However so far I have points showing for my Plat CC...and then separately against the new Charge card there is another balance showing 0.
so currently there are two separate fields that the points could show in. I will know soon if ther do that or only appear in one.

Yes

That is correct . It states the age on the Supp application form.

She already as a Plat CC supp that I got early in the year when there was 2000 bonus offer for new supp members.

AMex T&C
Trip means:
(a) a Domestic Trip; or
(b) an International Trip.
Cover for a Trip ceases at the earlier of:
(a) when You return to Your usual place of residence within Australia; and
(b) when Your Trip exceeds one hundred and eighty (180) consecutive days; and
(c) when you have travelled a total of one hundred and eighty-three (183) days during
each year of Your American Express Platinum Charge Cardmembership.
Each Domestic Trip or International Trip must commence and end in Australia.

So its consecutive, not accumulative per trip.
And 183 days to be exact for total and you lost cover??!! (This is new to me and I swear it wasn't on the T&C previously!)

PS: How can they verify the 183 days rules anyway?! Immigration doesn't like to stamp my passport, so next available record would be my air ticket?!

You will need to call Amex and advise them to link both of the cards.
Tell them the Credit card is a companion card to the charge card and pro-rata refund the annual fee. Once finalised, you will only have 1 MR account, which is Accent Premium.

Cover fora Trip ceases at the earlier of:

a/ When You return to Your usual place of residence in Australia
b/ When Your trip exceeds 180 consecutive days
c/ When You have travelled a total of 183 days in your membership year

With b/ that could be across two membership years.

It also states that each trip must begin and end in Australia...so I am guessing that if you are not resident in Australia that you would not be covered.

1/ Thanks.

However I will have to wait 3 months as I am just about to start a 3 month period of earning an extra point / tx on the card and according to the rep I spoke to this could well cease if I make it a companion card at present.
So I will wait.

2/ Meanwhile my points have now posted for my first Charge Card Tx and yes it shows up in a second stash of points in Ascent Premium. Other points are still Asent.

 I recently applied a platinum supplement card for my wife to my
platinum charge card. Fill in the form and etc, and signed and so forth...
now they said need a verified copy of her driver licence or passport or
proof of age and address :?: and than they need like 5-7 business day
to verify or to see if they are approved and than another 7-14 days to
send it out via mail.

does anyone know why they are so strict and etc? basically i'm the one paying
the bill in the end. Wonder if anyone got the same problem?

This does sound a little strange. I applied for a supplementary card for my wife on my plat charge by fax on 17/11. The card arrived in the mail on 26/11 with no further information required.

I've got her several supplementary cards and never been asked to provide any info beyond what is on the initial form.

I got the 'further info required' recently. According to my experience and what they told me the requests are triggered sometimes for people who don't share the same last name and/or don't have any history with Amex. So your girl/boyfriend might get the request but your maternal grandparent may not.

UPDATE: Just checked my MR account and all Ascent Points have now been moved to Ascent Premium.

Have to do some test tx tomorrow to see what occurs with my extra 1 point bonus which are meant to start then on the Plat CC.

Hello,

Does anyone know what is the default AVIS AWD number assigned to your Platinum card AVIS Preferred account?

I quoted our corporate AWD as part of a recent booking and they've overwirtten the Amex AWD that was in the system before. I've contacted Amex but the rep said he can't give out that information..??!

Thanks.

So I decided to apply for the platinum card the other day after being a platinum credit card holder for less than a year... partly decided to apply because of this forum so thought I'd share a couple of thoughts.

Decided to enquire last week and the service consultant told me that as an existing card holder they would happily do an offer of $600 for the first year. I decided however that the 75k bonus points was more to my taste and applied online using that offer.

The information the consultant told me he would send arrived today (they sent me one last week with the wrong brochure in it... however didn't tell them that but they sent me another one today that was correct) with a brochure that was clearly out of date as it referred to a Qantas flight on the Plat CC...

I did notice one or two other things that seemed strange given whats been said on this forum and what is on the website - the first is that it mentions SPG membership but not Priority Club and it also mentions complimentary access to American airline lounges for Continental, Delta and Northwest. This is the first time I've seen this written about the Aus card - can anyone comment further on this?

Called Amex today to ensure they had received my application (given I didn't get an email confirmation) and the very nice agent (whose call stats I'm sure I completely screwed up - sorry!) spoke to new apps and had it 'fast-tracked'. Got verbal confirmation that I was approved, however it takes days to 'go through the system' and have a card created

Reading the flyer talk forum on the Amex Fine Hotels & Resorts I'm pretty keen to talk to PTS about this for my upcoming trip to Thailand in Feb - anyone here have any comments on this?

Oh and for anyone wondering about whether they can get the Plat Charge, I submitted my application with my 'estimated' income for this year (which included my bonus so wasn't too keen on having to try and argue with them about it as my actual salary is under the 100k mark but well over with my bonus included...). Got my approval today without having to provide them with any information - very clear that there is a different set of rules for the Charge cards and they are well and truly happy to suck the annual fee out of your pocket!

Thanks to everyone for the valuable insights on this forum! (and apologies for the long post
