You get PC Gold level. in your welcome pack will be a form to fill out and mail back. if you are an existing member there is a spot to put your current membership number in and they'll update it. Happened for me

Actually, there is no PC form in my welcome pack booklet.
I had to call Amex to get that done. A staff sent me an email to fill in some personal details and then all sorted out.

Must have changed the welcome pack. Mine (ok it was a few years ago now) had it up the back along with the Priority Pass form and a couple of others.

I wasn't suggesting I thought they'd dumped the Gold PC membership, just pointing out that it was strange that their brochure was out of date and clearly doesn't include everything but does include some things such as USA airport lounge access which I've not read anything about for Australian issued cards...

Has anyone use the Amex FHR program recently?

I can now confirm after receiving my card yesterday that there is no PC Gold form in the welcome pack so I'll have to get onto them about sending me one...

Rang them to find out what my 'comfort level' is (much more useful amount than my stupidly low CC limit) and they reminded me that if I was going to be like a guy last week and buy a $500k Maserati then I should give them a call first  Unfortunately that won't be happening any time soon!

Appreciate the advice here - now for me to get spending... :p

In regard to comfort levels I was just on the phone to Amex and they work on a average of the last 12 months spend.

This seems to fit with the timing of calls from Amex to me about lowering the amount outstanding on my cards before using them again.

From past experience they work on 3 times your average spend monthly as the maximum they allow before someone may look at your account.

Never yet had a call re reducing the ammount oweing. Only advice was after putting through $20K in one transaction was to pay that in 14 days.

If ever in doubt as they told me, call them prior and they generally will never stop you providing you got good history with them.

Slightly off topic but another reason to justify the $900 charge...

My folks' car broke down the other night and they have forgotten to renew their NRMA membership so there's not much help besides paying the $150 renewal on the spot. Anyway, I've jumped on the phone, called ACE (or their provider) and got the towing organised via NRMA all for free.

Maybe I won't need roadside assistance anymore for as long as I am a Platinum card member :o

Thanks for that one.

I'll have a look at this.

This only applies if you are 50km or more away from your "usual place of residence"

If i rememner correctly... They also only cover $150 per calendar year. Not sure if that's changed.

After checking the latest document, the "km" & "per year" clause seem to be deleted in the new ACE policy. And the new roadside assistance policy seems to be quick useful and increased substantial value compared to the old one.

On the other hand, the home assistance one seems to be on the other side of the scale. The "emergency" clause has put into places...so if I lock myself out, does it constitute emergency, and will I get charge "labour" to unlock door?!

As always, reading the PDS is a good idea.

Coverage is not limited by distance (except it is not provided actually at your place of residence). There are some differences in cover (i.e. what will be paid etc) if you are over 50km from your residence.

The limit (for the basic call out) is $200 (presumably per event).

The usual exclusions (racing, etc) apply, but also interestingly, the coverage only applies to vehicles less than 8 years old, and within certain dimensions and weight. Whilst 4x4 are covered, the maximum gross weight (including load) of 2,000kg is going to exclude a large number of vehicles.

The home assistance isn't too bad either, 2 call outs per year and at least they cop the brunt of the charges (those rather inflated emergency call out fees) while time and material is obviously with you.

Now the only question remains, will my supplementary card holders receive those roadside assistance benefits too

The Travel Insurance reads quite well when compared to recent policies I've used. Do most concur with this thought?

Looking quite seriously at this due to the practical add ons (roadside, emergency, buyer protection and TI) as well as the points earn.

BTW is it just me or has the access to Priority Pass disappeared?

You will need to call Amex and advise them to link both of the cards.
Tell them the Credit card is a companion card to the charge card and pro-rata refund the annual fee. Once finalised, you will only have 1 MR account, which is Accent Premium.
I paid the annual memnbership for my Plat credit card in September 10. As I'm, thinking of upgrading to the Plat charge card at $900 / year with the free associated Plat credit card, I rang AMEX up to confirm that I would get a pro rata refund on the annual membership fee I paid in September for the Plat credit card but they said I wouldn't.....this seems to go against the info given above. Can anyone who has had recent experience clarify?
thanks

I certainly got a Priority Pass membership form in my welcome pack a few weeks ago.
The Priority Club gold benefits I had to ask about as no form - they emailed me what they needed to know and I replied by email.

Recently got my Platinum Card after also being a Plat CC member - called up and asked about a pro-rata refund and got one of those staff who like to manage things to completion (rare I know but that's what we pay for right?). He said they don't always give the refund but he would submit a request and if it was declined he claimed he would be calling that department to find out why and that I should know if I didn't get it it was t because he didn't try!
Sure enough this week I got over $100 credited to my account

Long story short I also was told no guarantees but if you see value in the card then try your luck or wait until your CC fee is up for renewal...

but then the 75K points sign up bonus will be over:(...and that's one of the key attractions for me signing up for the charge card now:p

That's why I was prepared to pay the $900 anyway because I saw value and most certainly made sure I signed up using the 75k bonus points form!

Oh and not sure if I mentioned it in an earlier post but I was told that existing cardholders could get the Plat Charge for $600 first year, but obviously won't get the points... something for those who aren't ready to keep in mind - make sure you ask if there is a deal for you!
