Platinum Card, what will I get for $900

I paid the annual memnbership for my Plat credit card in September 10. As I'm, thinking of upgrading to the Plat charge card at $900 / year with the free associated Plat credit card, I rang AMEX up to confirm that I would get a pro rata refund on the annual membership fee I paid in September for the Plat credit card but they said I wouldn't.....this seems to go against the info given above. Can anyone who has had recent experience clarify?
thanks

One final Q before I sign up....After 1 year, what happens if I want to switch back to the Plat Credit Card only? Do you keep the same card number? and what happens to your points? do they get TF back to the standard Ascent program (as opposed to Premium Ascent)? thanks

No you would be given a new number. and from memory you would change back to Ascent, so you couldn't transfer to QF after the plat charge card was cancelled.
A thought just crossed my mine: If I apply for the Plat charge card, can I keep my existing Amex plat credit card?...I would like to keep both accounts (including MR) separate, so that after 1 year, I can decide which card to keep, and which to cancel. Also, if I got the free plat credit card that comes with the charge card, does that mean I will have another "free flight" to use? I might call AMEX in am and ask...

Your plat credit card will fall under the Charge card and onto Acsent Premium. so all the points would go across. Don't know if they'd give you another credit card under it for free though...

You can keep it separate, but why would you want to do that? You will get charged both annual fee instead of just the charge card.

Also, the free credit card only means you get the companion card for free (e.g. no annual fee) and does not mean that you can get an additional plat credit card.

There is also an internal policy that you can only have 1 platinum credit card (regardless edge or reserved), so the end result, you can only get 1 free flight (which you already have got from your current platinum credit card).

Rec'd my pack today. My existing Plat Credit Card (Eng Australia w Qantas direct earn selected) was incorporated into the new arrangement.

US based airlines are extremely generous with their lounge access. American Airlines, Continental Airlines, Delta Airlines, Northwest Airlines and US Airways allow the cardholders immediate family and upto two guests into their lounges (by showing that carriers boarding pass and your Platinum Card).

You can other wise use your Priority Pass card for lounges that accept it and entry permission will be the same (except you can use any carriers boarding pass).

Mathew Richards

With the PP card though, the card allows just the cardholder with free access. Charges apply for guest(s) of cardholder. The PP website has comprehensive info on each lounge and their "rules".

Again, as above, my pack arrived today and Page 11 of the (comprehensive) brochure states that the access to the Admirals Club, Continental President's Club and the Delta Sky Club.

Received my Plat. Amex Card, thought great I'll get the free 75000 FF points, asked them when, they said 4 to 6 weeks after the offer expires early March!!, what? why?, so from time of Amex Plat. card application to points is 3 months in my case, I had no idea about this nor did I see a mention about this lengthy delay.

My idea was to use them with my other QFF points and take the good woman on a US holiday but not so soon it seems. If I had known about this ridiculous delay that takes three months, I probably would not have taken up the offer. Just imagine an airline program pulling this stunt there would be uproar. I've complained to AMEX about above, they say so far I should have been informed!.

I was always of the understanding that it was after the offer expired as this was their policy when I upgraded from Gold to Platinum Credit Card. I need them by August so I did ask to confirm.

Sorry to hear it's stuffed you around.

Previous post should add "with boarding pass and Platinum Card." No Priority Pass needed.

If you had read the T&C it is pretty clear...

Offer only available to new Platinum Charge Card members who apply, are approved by 01 March 2011, and spend $500 in the first two months of Card membership. Please allow 8 to 10 weeks for the 75,000 Bonus Points to be awarded to your account once the spend benchmark has been met.

Reason for the delay is most likely to try and minimise "churners"who might try and join redeem/transfer the 75K immediately along with the flight, then cancel the card straight after and then seek pro-rata refund of the $900. So personally I see nothing ridiculous on the part of Amex and can fully understand their logic for delaying when the points are awarded.
As a points runner myself it is nice when loopholes bob-up, but this offer as it stands is a pretty generous offer and I am hoping for more such offers.

Well there ya go, honestly I didn't see it. However I've spent $4 grand with new Amex Plat. card in December, so meet the spend criteria, but they are telling me its now May before I get the points.

, but they are telling me its now May before I get the points.

CSRs are not always knowledgeable about the ins and outs of all offers.

I have generally found that Amex awards points either early, or when they are meant to...and so my "guestimate" would be that you will gain them well prior to May. Say March-ish

Yeah looks like it, will just have to wait now to see how long it takes.

and... thanks for the info guys...

True. This is why I printed out the webpage with the offer against this risk. The customer service guy knew nothing about the offer but once I faxed the printout through they credited me with it.

I've applied yesterday using the Blue Moon offer.
Will see how long will it take to get the card.
There's no options for getting supplementary card holders in the web site.
Is this something that has to be done later?

I'm planning to use it for my upcoming US trip mainly for rental car CDW and access to AA Admiral Club.

I used valet parking at Westfield Bondi Junction today and , courtesy of Amex platinum charge card, the fee was waived. Close to David Jones end of centre. Very convenient and Good, prompt service.

It was listed as a benefit in a mail out brochure last year. According to the details listed it is for Bondi Junction (2 hours) or Doncaster (3 hours) and the offer was supposed to have expired on 31 March '11 (but, hey, we know Amex isn't great with dates) :)

For more information you are directed to call Platinum Concierge, no link was given.
