Platinum Card, what will I get for $900

So what is the point for me to put the Amex Reserve CC in my wallet, when the Plat Charge card covers it without limits? Should I just leave the card at home?

There is also a points earning cap on the platinum charge card, and that is the other reason to use the Reserve CC.

Re the OP about value, to be honest with my renewal date looming in late Feb I was weighing up the whole "is it really worth $900" question.
Then I made a travel insurance claim for a trip we cancelled when my 2 YO daughter became ill and had to go to hospital. The "trip" was actually a rented house 2 hours up the coast for 2 nights for a wedding - not something I would ever take out travel insurance for. We had paid in full for the holiday house, and my daughter got sick 2 days before the wedding so no refund.

This happened in the first week of November and I lodged a claim for the $550 we paid for accommodation in mid January. It was paid in 5 days with no questions asked.

So the value might be something you haven't even thought of. We're happy with the value and will definitely be renewing!

Yep, still works. Up until March 31st like last year and probably going to be renewed (or at least I hope they will do that).

It does only cover your first two hours parking though. Parking charges are the same as elsewhere in the centre, just you don't have to pay the $15 valet fee.

That's fine, $10 for 3 hours without the hassle of trying to find a parking is well worth the money IMO.

Doncaster is my local too. do they offer it there too???

Yes - free valet is at both Bondi and Doncaster. It's only during the week and not weekenda, and you need to call Amex concierge to book ahead of your arrival.

I've only used at Bondi Jtn and on weekends and without prebooking. Never had issues.

Interesting. The T&Cs definitely say weekdays only - to be honest I haven't tried weekends though. I also haven't tried not booking ahead!

Is there a link anywhere on the amex site? I've never been able to find one.

The T&Cs are in the Platinum site somewhere but can't remember where exactly, and I'm not in front of a PC right now! You need to log in to the platinum benefits section somewhere though.

From Amex website:

"Subject to the Terms and Conditions of the Membership Rewards program. Every $1 spent on your Card earns up to 1.5 Membership Rewards points up to $200,000 each year, reverting to one point for every dollar thereafter."

Does Centurion have such limit?

I'm past $200,000 spend for current year and just noticed my earn dropped to $1:1MR point. Will move business back to Westpac SQ amex card.

Foreigner that is why Ultimate is the one to get 2 commas in your points earning in a shorter period of time.

Hello Foreigner,
Yes that is the one but only if you want QF points. I saw it being on special for a $250 price a few weeks ago.
I have the Velocity Platinum and then the Westpac Kris Flyer Platinum to round off the Amex camp.
They offer no big fringe benefits but great points earning on an uncapped basis.
Ultimate gives you a free return flight but you won't get to Perth.

Thanks, cove. Not happy about getting just one point per dollar with premium charge card like Platinum.

Otherwise, for non-Amex transactions, I'm getting good value off CitiBusiness Gold visa at rate of 1.25 points per dollar. But the cap of 250k is not good enough too. Will see if Jetstar platinum Mcard can come in handy.

Well I think I have had just about enough of the Platinum card. Having only received the card in January, believing all the marketing hype by AMEX, what a disappointment this card has become.

For $900 I struggle to see the value now. The insurance change and promises of discounts that have failed to appear continue. I have not been able to identify any cheaper flights through the travel concierge that I can't find myself on the internet.

Only this morning I logged into the Platinum site to see they still haven't changed the majority of their promotions from 2011. In fact the premium bonus partners all ended at the end of December! Still no updates.... What are AMEX marketing doing? Very little from the look of their website.

Is anyone else feeling the same way? I think the Reserve card is the answer.
