Ok. Fair cop. But is the extra $3200.00 worth the effort. Are centurion supplementary cards no charge? And will they cover everyone for travel insurance? Like plat used to ?
1 Centurion supp card free, with cent insurance. 4 Plat supp cards free with standard Plat benefits. So that means I think those 4 have the reduced insurance, but not the Cent supp card. So that's a downgrade, but not for me as I haven't used any of the supp plat cards anyway.
For me the additional cost is worth it. Insurance has paid out a few times on what would no longer be covered on the plat card (or any other bank issued insurance) so to me that is minimum $500 value per person (although when I've looked at annual worldwide policies + domestic travel insurance, the actual cost for equivalent insurance is well over $1000 per person). Last year I took 92 flights (about two thirds domestic) so a decent insurance policy is critical.
We both have used the Priority Pass membership - not $600 like Amex says but at least 5 lounge visits each = $200+
Hilton Diamond has paid for breakfast countless times, so that's at least $20-30 a day even if we ate outside the hotel. Would have saved at least $300+. And no, I still don't have enough Hilton nights to earn Diamond. Plus several meals in club floors, free water etc. Maybe only small savings each time, but they add up. Additional bonus points with Hilton, SPG and Priority Club also add up in value.
Not having to buy LDW or excess reduction at $25-30 a day with at least 40 rental days per year = min $1000 (but yes I would get that on plat)
I've used the discount companion fares and saved a significant amount there as well.
There are many other benefits on the card that I won't go into, some I agree it's difficult to put a value on, but even just those above have given me well over the annual fee in value.
