Platinum Card, what will I get for $900

Someone else had confirmed in another thread that they had spoken to Amex and the Premium cards weren't changing. Can't remember the thread. Additionally, last time I checked, only the cards mentioned above have been changed on the website.

Thanks - thought you might've had some new inside info :-)

On an unrelated note: when you have the complimentary Plat Reserve CC that comes with the Plat charge card, do you get 1.5 MR points per $1 spent for the first $100,000 spent on the Plat Reserve CC? Or do you get 1.5 MR points oper $1 spent on an additional $100,000 of spend, regardless of whether that money is spent on the Plat charge card or Plat Reserve CC?

I'm pretty sure the points tally is separate for each card, even though it credits to the same awards account. So 1.5 for first $100k on Credit card is totally separate from the charge card.

I currently have the Plat charge and the Plat credit with 2 companion cards. Now that the Travel Insurance terms have changed to coverage only if the airline tix are purchased on the card, I can't really see how it's better value than the Plat credit card. This was the main incentives for me. I rang AMEX recently to discuss the relative card benefits and wasn't offered any incentives to maintain Plat charge. So when the expiry date comes round I'll probably just cancel it and keep the plat credit and add the gold charge.

Apparently Amex has just released some new benefits for the UK Plat charge card including permanent CX Gold and better guesting rights with PP - to accompany a hike in their fee from £300 to £450. There's a thread about it in the amex forum at FT.

I wonder if there's a letter in the mail waiting for me when I get home....

Just spoke to Amex CS and you are correct: bonus points are specific to each card. Thanks for the response.

If this is true for AUS Plat charge holders too then I will definitely pay the $900 as I don't fly enough to achieve Oneworld Sapphire status....

Really? I thought the brochures for Cent said that Platinum supp cards on a Cent account are covered by the same policy as a normal paid plat card - the insurance policy being similar but with lower limits (eg. $30k for luggage instead of $50k). And therefore that would mean the changes to Plat insurance would affect the supp cards.

Happy to be proven wrong here though!

I spoke to both ACE & Centurion back in Feb when they updated the platinum insurance and they told me the change will not affect me and my supps (Platinum).
They advised that insurance is all based on the Primary Card Holder's policy.

On top of that, Centurion cannot obtain the Platinum insurance T&C online as Centurion card holders (Or their supps) do not get access into the Platinum site.

I don't really fly OW anymore and have no need to guest people on PP as Mrs Flashware has her own card so it's useless to me.

That may be the case for the Main Cent and Supp Cent cardholders, as they get access to the Cent benefits login/site.

The Plat supp cardholders do not get access to the Cent site though - they would get access to the Plat login and therefore that would present them with the Plat T&Cs.

Can I ask if I'm a plat EDGE plat member now can I apply for the AMEX Plat Charge and get the 75000 bonus points or am I not eligible?

You do get the sign-on bonus even if you are a current Platinum Edge cardholder.

Thanks beardoc :) Now thinking to do the app online or over the phone... Will I also get a reserve plat card with it? or can I knock it back?

you wont automatically get the reserve card issued.
you can request reserve/edge - may as well get one of them for the free flight (+ 2x petrol,3 x grocery earn on the Edge card).
i took the edge to accompany my plat charge, for the above points earn, and then got called by Amex offering a comp Reserve as well....

nlagalle,too quick,fair play!yep,still 80k/40k on refer a friend

I'm about to sign up :) Can someone please let me know if it's a bad idea to sign up to plat for $900 to get the bonus points? Is $900 worth it just for the bonus points?
