I too have been using the valet parking offer extensively

Except I've caught the guys at Bondi driving my car around the car park a little too enthusiastically  dropped the car off, they thought I'm gone but I just popped into the loo then come out hearing my car revved in anger.

That is the problem with a Hyundai Getz, they don't know when to stop. :p:p

I wouldn't humiliate myself by driving a Getz

While on the topic of Getz, a colleague of mine drove one for years and she's so in love with them, she replaced it with a younger one

Again, as above, my pack arrived today and Page 11 of the (comprehensive) brochure states that the access to the Admirals Club, Continental President's Club and the Delta Sky Club.

Is that regardless of whether you're flying with their airline?

Also thanks for the Westfield valet tip to zig - I might go to Doncaster a bit more often now!

I tried it out at ATL in April and I wasn't flying Continental but was given access. In fact once I showed the card I wasn't asked for a boarding pass.

That's good to know. Covers the US, parts of Japan, London and Paris.

There's absolutely nothing humiliating about driving a Getz! :p

Was chatting to a guy today who couldn't say enough about this card.

He loves it because when he books accommodation through Amex Travel they always upgrade him to a suite, give him late checkout, breakfast & a free gift!

They even refunded his non-refundable tickets to a Las Vegas show he missed because he stuffed up.

His gf was covered for travel insurance without him having to get her a subsidiary card as she was his travelling companion.

He also loves their concierge service & told me the story of some bloke who was on his boat on Sydney Harbour on New Year's Eve when he ran out of ice. Amex to the rescue & they arranged to have the ice delivered to a jetty close by.

I am renewing my card without hesitation this year even if it costs the full membership fee as we feel that we have more than sufficiently derived good value out of the card.

Based on our circumstances:

- Free one night stay on AMEX at the W Maldives' Ocean Oasis (~$650* saving)
- Free DJ domestic/trans tasman flight (~$550^ saving)
- Annual multi trip travel insurance (~$200* saving -> we made a claim for $300 last year which was paid without fuss)
- Rental car hire excess waiver (~$150 saving)
- Free in-room internet through SPG Gold (~$300 saving) --> am still Plat but won't be keeping it post March unless I get another comp

Even without the free hotel night which is obviously a one time only promo, this card is great value for what we're getting and the other intangible benefits like the convenience of having Platinum Concierge organise restaurant bookings make this card worth its fee.

*Based on discounted industry rates.
^Not taking into account staff travel fares as this is a firm fare.

Thanks Keith for expressing thoughts similar to mine.

Out TI claim was about $6500 so very worth while.

I only got the Platinum card in November with 80K points offer. It already paid off when I made a claim on $2700 without fuss in January! So it has already paid out 3 years of annual fees!

The main benefits I get that make the $900 worthwhile are the rental car excess cover and travel insurance for the whole family. The extended warranty on purchases is also good. We easily get $900 worth just on these three items.

I have the Platinum Charge Card and now I also have the free Amex Reserve Credit Card. From what I see, the only reason I get the Amex Reserve CC is that I can get the free flight ticket from Virgin. Points earning is the same as the Plat Charge Card. So what is the point for me to put the Amex Reserve CC in my wallet, when the Plat Charge card covers it without limits? Should I just leave the card at home?

In short yes.

Does the Bondi Valet offer still work? Only an occasional user of that centre - but given on weekdays they start charging a lot for more than 2hrs worth considering

Only reason would be if you want to buy something and not have to pay it in full by the date your statement is due ;)

Unfortunately I have always paid the full balance for years for all credit cards so I cannot "take advantage" of such offer. I guess it is hard to change good habits ;)

Maybe the only other thing is to get those 2 * Priority Pass entry so that my better half can use it as I already have PP thru the charge card, not that I really use PP anyway given no PP lounges in Australia.

Correct - thats why i instead opted for the Edge as supplementary card so i get the 3-2-1 points

Actually, now I have all 3: Plat Charge Card, Plat Reserve CC and Plat Edge CC.

I got Plat Edge CC when it was launched as I took advantage of free SYD-ADL return flight for only $150 annual fee. Absolutely worth it given I can book it on peak times and in fairly short notice. I only got the Charge Card late last year.

Yep, still works. Up until March 31st like last year and probably going to be renewed (or at least I hope they will do that).

Same. The Plat Edge becomes the default supermarket/fuel card due to the higher earning rate, the Reserve just sit there and do nothing and the Charge Card gets used everywhere else.
