Plaza Premium Lounge at Adelaide Airport

Well not so ... I looked closer at the article.

There are "Limits".

Consider a period of time after either midnight or midday and describe that as being AM or PM. Halve that time and there still is a time AM or PM.

Halve the resultant time and continue halving the resultant times and it is still either AM or PM. Eventually that amount of time will approach zero and we have a notional 12am or 12pm being effectively real.

Differential calculus is how we engineer aircraft or build Plaza Premium lounges.
Zeno springs to mind, but we digress.

I caught QR914 last week and could only peer through the locked doors of the lounge. :(

is this the direction from QR? Technically wouldn’t QR J Pax get access to Qantas Club and Virgin Lounge then? Considering QA has to give access to international oneworld J pax?
This is what the QR staff tell you on check in.

Theoretically yes you can enter the Adel Qantas Club but if youre leaving on the evening flight the last Qantas flight leaves around 1930 and the QC closes soon after.

The QF lounge shuts before the QR flight departs so will kick you out.
On check in you will be directed to the VA lounge but obviously you can go to either no problem.
QR are paying VA to keep the lounge open and last I had heard they were not interested in paying Plaza Premium cost.
VA lounge to gate is 5-10 minutes tops, immigration is an absolute breeze.

Serious question - can the Plaza Premium Lounge at ADL survive, financially, if SQ is the only airline using it and for one flight per day?

MH pax can also enter via Priority Pass or pay for walk-up entry, but there would probably only be a few per flight.

Is it viable for the lounge operator (i.e. can they break even) under these circumstances, with the lounge only open for 3 hours/day?

QR should absolutely spring for it. If (as happened to me) they delay boarding at the last minute and you're already through passport control, you're SOL.

Also the QF Club turned me away, travelling J on QR. They absolutely  should let you in, but in my case they didn't. VA Lounge worked, but I wanted to check out the QF Club too.

QF turned J passengers away even though they were open. At checkin theres no mention of a lounge access at all.

ADL immigration is the worst! Closed their gates up after the JQ to DPS flight and only reopen 2h before the SQ flight. I was there before they close the gate but they won’t let me through because I wasn’t a JQ pax. So even if you want to get to this lounge early, you couldn’t. Spoke to the lounge staff and he said there were a lot of complaints about that. All the immi staff did was to close the immi gates but hung around to yak in clear view (sigh!)

The SQ flight is at 0910 and lounge opening hours are 0700-1000 so you couldn’t get entry any earlier regardless of immigration.

I don't understand their reluctance. Don't they get to charge QR a fee if you're admitted?
Probably just part of the ongoing tiff.
AKL was the same when we went earlier in the year. At check in for QR you get a pass to the Strata lounge but being QR Platinum I thought I’d do the QF F closet first and the pushback from staff was strong. Had to get the manager who let us in. Strata lounge was far better food and seating mind you. I’m not sure if it was a capacity issue or they just don’t eat you in there

The impact is small I agree but imagine a huge surge of crowd through the security scanning and immigration at 7:15, then another long line at the lounge reception to get in vs a more staggered approach if the immigration remains open

Do MH or QR J pax get access to this lounge or just the Qantas Domestic lounge?
As of two months ago flying with SQ , I enquired about MH access and was advised that they didn’t have a contract with MH. And access to the lounge for SQ is from 0710am i.e. when immigration opens, two hours before SQ278 flight. Worth mentioning don’t rush to get a self serve coffee, the barman/barista eventually arrives and will make a good coffee for you.

Really disappointed in QR in this. They absolutely promote 'Premium' all the way and this isn't. I guess they are choosing the fee for VA to keep open landside Vs the fee for PP airside. Perhaps PP is being a bit greedy and QR are teaching them a lesson.

Yep. I was (very) reluctantly, eventually admitted to the QF lounge when travelling through ADL on QR J back in May, but only after an argument and showing staff the OneWorld lounge rules on QF’s own website: https://www.qantas.com/au/en/qantas...ess-eligibility.html#eligible-oneworld-status

QF really don’t want you in there.

Disgraceful by Qantas. We often tell ourselves that "oh, those overseas lounges don't understand the OW lunge rules " - but here we are in Adelaide and they are breaking the OW rules - and knowing about it, I bet. They think they are punishing QR when they screw QR (oneWorld) passengers.

Screwing QR passengers is worth more than money, it seems.

As ADL is my departure port for QR flights, next time I'll take delight in using the QF lounge early, and have the paperwork with me.

I’m wondering how much PP are trying to charge QR. Don’t forget at that time of night the PP lounge would essentially be staying open for 3hrs for just that one QR flight and perhaps they have thought it’s not worth it or are trying to charge QR excessively whereas for VA they would only have to keep the lounge staffed for an extra 90 minutes above what they would do anyway 🤷

The PP business plan would be an interesting read :)
