Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

Just remember that a big reason why it was so hard to get a flu shot at the beginning of flu season this year was also because workplace vaccination programs weren't held because many offices were in wfh mode. My work and many others gave vouchers that could be used at my chemist warehouse and Priceline. Hopefully it was a good practice round for pharmacies.

Cruise ship ban extended by 3 months. Surely the travel ban extension is imminent now

I hope my job in the University will allow us to have early access to COVID vaccine through vaccination centres in University Hospitals. I think both private and public hospitals as well as some larger clinic will need to do heavy lifting in terms of vaccinating the public.
Yet the vaccines that Australia has procured requires 2 jabs, whilst the Janseen one which NZ bought only requires one, I do look forward for the Trans-Tasman bubble in January (hopefully) and that we can travel to NZ and get vaccinated there to reduce the amount of pain that we have.

That's one of the details that I guess we'll be told about at some stage. Will we need to take a letter with us confirming our eligibility, or will it be up to individual medical staff to do an on-the-spot assessment as to eligibility?

I would expect there to be some sort of residence requirement otherwise vaccines could be going to tourists before Australian residents. Same for NZ I wonder?

I would be confident you will have no chance of getting the Covid vaccine in January in NZ.
For one they have not even announced a timeline for vaccination to start.

Secondly they admit in that document they are pursuing an elimination strategy and so need a high uptake of the vaccine by Kiwis.
They also say that ensuring that Pacific Island nations get sufficient vaccine supplies is important.
So an Aussie even if he is working at a Uni is unlikely to be able to get the vaccine there early in the roll out.

The other point regarding their roll out is that they are aware that the Northern hemisphere is in winter now so aiding the spread of the virus and that they already have massive caseloads. They allude to the fact that the needs of the northern hemisphere are much greater than those of NZ and indeed Australia. It is fair that we should wait.

Well yes, but we shouldn't wait for too long, I think March is a long way to go, I really hope we can get the first dose by Australia Day so that we can open the borders no later than Queen's birthday and we can evacuate Australia and go back to where we come from.

It is official, International borders closed until 17th of March.

Well at least they should open to NZ and establish travel bubbles with Singapore etc. I hope this can be addressed at the National Cabinet meeting this Friday.

I hope this is the last extension of the travel ban, as Australians have now would have been wasted an entire year getting stuck at home doing nothing than be able to go overseas.

🤣 😂 :D

Despite going 15 days without a single new case, In Singapore we've had a ghastly amount of new cases detected in the last two weeks .... 8 in total (3 of those past infections, so that makes really 5 new current cases an average of 0.35/day). 1 of those ship crew, 1 of those based in Singapore but works on ships fixing nav systems, 1 a cleaner at the airport and then 2 foreign workers residing in dormitories as the remaining cases in the community.

You can evacuate now - just say you are leaving for 3 months. Just expect to pay for mandatory quarantine if you decide to return.

Vaccines are starting today in the UK. Over 80's, aged care homes and front line health care workers.
Queen and Duke of Edinburgh are in the queue.

How did the 2 foreign workers get Covid?

17th March 2021 - A) rollover biosecurity ban to 17/6/2021, B) NZ may be open - no quarantine no vaccination required (best case scenario)

17th June 2021 - A) rollover biosecurity ban to 17/9/2021, B) Singapore may be open - no quarantine no vaccination required (best case scenario)

17th September 2021 - end biosecurity ban and allow oversea's travel IF YOU ARE VACCINATED. There may be restrictions on visiting some countries depending on their COVID cases (looking at you Seppo's).

So you guys won't be able to make it over to Ireland for St Paddy's Day then unless you decide to make it a 3 month trip. Don't worry, been there done that and standing outside watching the parade down in Cork was not pleasant as it was terribly cold, windy and a bit wet!

Those dormitories, because of the substandard conditions in them, have basically been plague areas for months. Outbreaks have occurred on numerous occasions.

I wouldn't say "outbreaks have occurred on numerous occasions". Just one huge outbreak that took months to bring under control. But, yes, there have been 54,504 cases record in dormitories (vs 2,275 in the community, outside dormitories and 1,494 imported cases). When they first detected the virus was rife in the dormitories, they closed them off from the rest of Singapore. It has slowed a trickle and this weeks dorm cases were the first since Nov 10.

With the vast majority of infections being in those foreign workers (mainly fit 20-somethings), the mortality rate (29 deaths out of 58,000 cases) has been very low, although I think the Singapore government have been very strict on "died due to complications from COVID" vs "died with COVID").

Meanwhile, the trajectory of the non-dormitory cases has been similar to NSW.
