Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

if you allow the premiers to control the country, which they are.
Yes, our federation has been exposed as deficient. Are we a nation under Federal control or not? One Premier has essentially seceded already. In QLD, I don't support my Premier's position to close our state borders, on the slightest, non-empirical or non-disclosed and highly political evidence.

In terms of the international border, I am not ok with either of these; Screen Shot 2021-04-30 at 23.40.42.png

Overseas maybe, here they are ramping back up massively!
As in people meeting up? I know the business we work in is conducting actual physical presence required workshops but if conferences are too, then that's great news.

For all of us looking for any sign of predictions/plans of when international travel resumes, this article says:

"The Andrews government expects travellers to be subject to quarantine upon arrival in Australia for the next two to three years".

So 2024/2025 for international borders to open up.....
I doubt this claim is backed by any policy decision or evidence. In reality, it would simply justify the investment of capital required to see a return on building the facility. Which will never be built, by the way.

I agree with you on all those points, however, that timeframe actually makes sense because QLD, VIC and WA will do whatever they can to keep borders closed for years IMO. One or two cases these days sparks a shut-down. So I don't see how that thinking changes, even after mass vaccination.

True. For different reasons though

WA/QLD - insular thinking, fear mongering news coverage, isolationist/secessionist at heart, stay away from my mining royalties

VIC - self-inflicted by poor government performance leading to population being scarred by very long lockdowns they are fine with any and all restriction.

I think there may be circumstances where HQ is still required... you're unvaccinated (won't have it, or were unable to get it in the country you came from), and/or coming from a high risk country, and/or one where a new strain has broken out that isn't covered by the vaccine, you will probably have to go into formal quarantine.

Capacity for 300 suggests it will be a very limited group that will be required to use it.

Yes you are probably right. And also right about it being hotel quarantine.

Before his fall and long absence, remember Andrews' 100% committing to it? At one of the airports as well. It was quite a walk back from his "temporary" replacement Merlino during the week, informing the federal government of the detail via e-mail 2 minutes before standing in front of a camera for the "announcement". Then the council got wind and has vowed to fight it on behalf of residents.

It’s more than just scoping it. We are going to get on and build a facility. It’s just a matter of how big it is and the more precise details of where but Avalon and Melbourne Airports are standout candidates and I’m very grateful to them for the partnership and work they’ve already done with us. We’ll update as and when we need to.

You're right, at least 250,000 inbound passengers a week into Australian airports every week pre-COVID. Even if half that by end of 2022 (do-able) that's a lot of bodies.

But a great number of those will no longer want to travel. The number amongst my friends who won't travel in the future surprises me. It seems only those with family overseas are the least bit keen.

Again important to mention that Australians are not prevented from going on holidays

Non residents maybe, but government policy is currently such that resident citizens are not allowed to leave Australia for an international holiday, and too often cant even holiday interstate cause of rash state border restrictions.

We have probably travelled domestically more in the last 12 months than we have in a long time.
Helps that we have boycotted WA but have been lucky enough to have unhindered travel to every other state and Territory. I’d love to get back OS for holidays and see family but just have to make the best with what we have got currently

Well, we are pretty much at risk as soon as we step into a different state, and overseas holidays aren't permitted so not sure I understand?

Using this on my phone, this was the start of a post that I wrote ages ago (in response to something else) and didn’t finish or end up posting. As it keeps it, until you delete must have accidentally posted it. So no wonder it appears out of context

At the time I was getting %{^%{^ed off at all the whining about not being able to go on holiday, when I was looking at Facebook oosts from friends and family jetting off all over the place ... weekend in Sydney, no problems! Week in North Queensland, yay! Off to Gold Coast .... down to Tassie ...

Isnt there a travel bubble between Singapore and Hong Kong now?

I know it might not be the same, but do cruises require quarantine?

Yep. I get that. Can't really delete a part post on a phone but on ipad it lets you delete the draft. I was hoping you'd found a loophole 😂
